I have the feeling this is going to be one of those movies that despite critics hating it is going to get a shit-ton of Oscar nominations for some reason. I had no idea the Academy added a "best cat orgy" category this year.

I fully expect the internet version featuring real cats to be better.

As someone who's lived his whole life within a pretty short distance from Manhattan and comes from a family that's performed in and watched a lot of musical theater over the years, I can just about safely say that the only people who went to see Cats were tourists.

“I CHIME in with a Haven’t you kitty cats of..finishing the god damn CGI!?” They clearly had a blind spot for hands. This is more embarrassing than Starbucks' Winterfell branch. At least that was a coffee cup in the background of a dark room. The entire gimmick of this shitty film is CGI'ed humans, how did they forget to CGI the humans?

To quote Garfield
"People who made this movie should be dragged out into the street and shot. Or worse, forced to watch it."

They should have used CGI cats that looked like actual cats, because I love cats, but hate human/cat hybrids.

They should have used CGI cats that looked like actual cats, because I love cats, but hate human/cat hybrids. There were several studio's that have wanted to make an animated Cats movie. Both hand-drawn and computer animated. However, Webber said no to all of them. He felt the most important thing to retain from the show is the look of real humans as cats. Webber got what he wanted. And the numbers show that the hill he was willing to die on wasn't worth it.

Why not just used old fashion makeup and costumes like the stage show? Just because we have the technology doesn't mean we should use the technology.

I think it'd have been fine to use some CGI touchups and for background stuff, since obviously it'd be far more intensive doing work suitable for film than the stage, but they certainly should've used it as an augment, not a crutch.

My parents took me to see that for my 11th birthday and it was amazing. Had a hell of a time getting in and out of the city though since President Clinton took his daughter to see Chicago for her birthday that weekend.

ooh that's not thorough production there ..... but remember it's all "put-on" cgi and not motion capture and the person who did the left hands has been fired
anyone know when the movie was locked? 'cos that really should have been spotted
and maybe should have been released a bit after those two mighty ships launched at this time .....

Big names tend to be hesitant to agree to roles that require hours spent undergoing makeup and prosthetics, and this is the sort of role that requires that to look halfway decent on screen. A film like Cats is reliant on having names in it's cast, and they're unlikely to get Judy Dench to agree to prance around in spandex after 3 hours getting fur glued to her face.

I’m suddenly reminded of the joke from Kevin Smith’s Jersey Girl: “Cats is the second worst thing to ever happen to New York City.”

I saw a story that Hooper was working on the movie right up until the day before it's premier. lol. Might wanna make an optometrist appointment.

Its really shows how doomed this project was, when it was chasing Hollywood names and using CGI as a crutch to actual traditional effects; thus making the final result so awful. Compare the facial disaster this effort was in comparison to something like Where the Wild Things Are: it had names attached with the utilization of computer effects, but had actual people in costumes as the base, and wasn't obsessed with having a Wild Thing Monster with James Gandolfini's face. Even putting aside the wildly different kinds of tones, character, and types of stories, it succeeds visually where Cats completely fails.
