For clarification, The Falcon and The Winter Solider (Fall 2020), Wandavision (Spring 2021), Loki (Spring 2021) and What If... (Summer 2021) are series on Disney+, not theatrical releases. Yea i'll separate the TV from the movies for clarification

Yeah, that's what I was doing. Suggesting ideas I think would be cool is "prematurely judging the final product". But you saying Natalie will be fine somehow isn't prematurely judging the final product? "But we're getting another whippet-thin, 'Hollywood beauty' superheroine" is not suggesting, that's projecting but I digress. I will not be answering you forward on Well, that's a real shame. I'd love to know why someone gets so immediately bent out of shape over the mildest critical comments regarding a movie franchise. Never mind.

I know jack do-diddly squat about Shang Chi and just skimmed through his Wiki. Can someone fill in the blanks and tell me if he was simply pulled from obscurity in the early 2000s after being MIA throughout the 1990s? Why was he brought back and how big of a deal is he now?
While I agreed the Guardians of the Galaxy movie was random, I at least knew of the previous versions of the team. I want to see the MCU succeed and I hope Shang Chi can pull off similar results as GOTG, as far as being a lesser-known series that has a successful film.

It has now been clarified that this is not the first part of Phase Four, as was originally reported at Comic Con, this is the whole thing.
Fantastic Four, GOTG3, Blade, Black Panther 2, and Captain Marvel 2 are all Phase Five.
Spider-Man 3 will likely be a Phase Four movie, but it's Sony's movie to announce, not Disney's.

The only one coming up I’m actually excited for is Falcon & The Winter Soldier: Which I’m ridiculously excited for. Anthony Mackie is the f***ing ish and I enjoyed WS in CW:TWS/Civil War. Stan might be able to sink his teeth into the role again. And Cap passing the mantle to Sam actually hit me the hardest in the feels in Endgame. I thought it’d go to Stan. So, stoked for them to “cut the cheeeck” for Anthony Mackie.
As for the others, for now *shrug*. I’m assuming I’ll watch everything on Disney’s service. Multiverse has me curious about Strange. Blades great casting has me wow’d. Of course X-Men and FF are gonna be interesting as f*** to see develop. And GOTG3 is probably gonna be a huge f***ing flick.

Yea, if anyone got an answer to this i'd be grateful because I do not know a damn thing about Shang Chi and only have heard his name over the last few years being mentioned as a character when discussing the MCU I'm not a regular Marvel reader, but I don't think he's a major player in the comics nowadays. He makes appearances, but usually when Marvel comics need a martial artists Danny Rand gets the call by default. He was basically created as a Bruce Lee rip-off to take advantage of the Kung Fu movie craze of the 1970's. When the craze passed he became decidely less relevant. Also, from what I understand a lot of Shang-Chi's backstory is heavily tied into Marvel's Fu Manchu mythos, which is a character they no longer have the rights too (similar to characters like ROM). This is probably why he has a lot of gaps in his resume, nobody wants to deal with this. My best guess is the main reason he's getting a movie is because somebody at Marvel really wants to make a Martial Arts movie and wants to avoid the white-washing controversy that Netflix had with Iron Fist. I'm really hoping the movie takes more inspiration from modern Jet Li-style Hong Kong Martial Arts movies and less from 70's style chop socky stuff that actually spawned the character.

It's weird that there is only one movie coming out in 2020 and it's going to be a prequel. We won't really see what happens next after Far From Home until 2021.
Also, I'm very curious about Shang Chi. I've been reading comics for over 35 years, yet admit to having little to no knowledge of the character aside from having heard his name before. I don't think I've ever read a comic that had him in it, so his movie will be like a blank slate for me.

The whole Hall H presentation is up on various YouTube videos, if anyone wants to hear the exact dialogue from each part.
Haven’t seen any leaked footage yet. I was trying to find the Zemo video.

I know they confirmed WandaVision (God that's still an awful name) Leads into Dr. Strange 2 but I noticed that the dates line up so I wonder if Loki sets up at least part of Thor

There was 3 movies in 2017, 3 movies in 2018 and 3 movies in 2019. Which is also notable as Marvel actually has three launch dates each in 2020-2022 set aside for films. Going by the initial announcement from months ago, they have not said anything about July 21, 2020 or July 30, 2021. They could just not use those dates (or use them for other Disney projects), but they did reserve them. Also, I found an interview with Director Scott Derrickson where he talked about using a specific Doctor Strange villain. I'll spoiler it and my thoughts to be safe: {Spoiler}{SPOILER}
In the comics Nightmare has used hallucinations, misdirections and manipulations of reality to mess with heroes. What if WandaVision is just Nightmare screwing with Wanda and making her think Vision has magically returned? Then Wanda snaps because of it and Strange has to stop Nightmare and save Wanda's sanity?

While I’m thrilled with the enormous investment of resources and that a lot of talented people are going to keep making big money, I think asking me to shell out for another streaming service to understand future films is a bit of a dick move, especially when those shows star such luminaries as Hawkeye and Scarlet Witch (Loki I could see working though).

Shang Chi and the Eternals are super deep cuts. I’m skeptical, but as others have pointed out, Marvel got GOTG over. Cast for Eternals is really impressive as well.

As I've said before, while Guardians of the Galaxy was obscure to non-comic fans, and even casual comic fans, before that movie came out Marvel was putting out a good decade of critically acclaimed GotG comics with a solid fan following featuring that cast of characters. There was some proof of concept that a modern GotG story could work. You can't really say the same thing about Shang-Chi and the Eternals. That said, I think Marvel Studios has built up enough good will among fans right now that people will be willing to at least give it a chance.

No clue about Eternals, but I guarantee you Shang Chi will get a boost from Asian filmgoers, especially with all the hoopla about the surge in Asian films like "Crazy Rich Asians" and "Always Be My Maybe."

I think the fact that they confirmed that the IM3 Mandarin was fake and that this will feature the real one Will give it a boost too.

Got to be real honest, Portman coming back and in such a big way is a bummer for me.
I felt she was the weakest part of the first two Thor movies.
In general, she's always been one of those actresses that never really had a presence on screen to me and only meets the level of the writing she's given, never lowering or raising it above what it is. I've seen her in bad movies, and in those she meets the level of them and she's bad. I've seen her in good movies and she's fine in them, but doesn't really bring anything to the roles she's given (made all the more apparent when sometimes her fellow cast take the quality of the writing and elevate it to even better than it is on the paper).
The rest I'm all on board for.
