So just saw this, naturally since I'm a Tarantino mark.
Interesting, fun flick. I'll have to see it again to really digest it.
A lot of people, myself included, were worried about it taking place during the Manson murders. Well, it has very little to do with Manson at all. There's a backdrop there, but the movie is mostly about Pitt and Leo's friendship and primarily about Leo being an aging actor whose best days are behind him and coming to terms with that.
It's one of Tarantino's slowest movies in that there's not really one driving plotline; it's mainly about these two guys lives.
Won't say much more so as not to spoil it. I liked it.

Yeah I also loved it. It really is interesting to see Tarantino return to doing films without a real plot to them as so much being really tightly focused character pieces. The acting and writing was fantastic, and Mike Moh easily stole the show in terms of the supporting cast as Bruce Lee. {Spoiler}That last act was just a brilliant execution of tension as I just sat curled in my seat waiting for the shit to hit the fan.

Yeah I noticed in the trailer I saw the other day that the focus didn't really seem to be on the Manson murders as much as I expected. It looks interesting, I'll see it at some point.

Was eerie how much Moh does look like Lee with the shades on.
I also sort of envision Quentin and Scorsese having a tug of war over whose actor Leo is now haha.
One thing did surprise/confuse me: Kurt is in it, Kurt plays a Stuntman, Kurt is not Stuntman Mike.

I had very mixed feelings. It wasn’t bad, but for being such a long film, it doesn’t really go anywhere.

I'm glad to know that the Manson murders are not a focus. I was really interested in this movie, as I haven't been interested in Tarantino for a long time - the setting of late-60s Hollywood looked like it could be a lot of fun - but I have no desire to watch movies that delve into Manson and his cult.

I should clarify, the Manson stuff is A focus, but the main thing is Leo and Pitt. Manson stuff factors in. There are long stretches where the movie is essentially kind of plotless and it's way more just hanging out with these characters in their lives. Your enjoyment hinges on how much you're into that.

Given Tarantino's fondness for violence, one of the things putting me off is the prospect of too much graphic focus on a real life murder. Without trying to spoil it, do we get that? I hope not.

Well, there is graphic violence at one point. Though it goes pretty cartoonish too, i.e. it's graphic but it's WAY over the top, so it depends on your sensibilities I guess. If you've been put off by violence in his other flicks, it's there in this.
Unrelated, but it's always funny to 'spot the feet' and see how many times he throws his fetish in there.

Nah, not bothered by screen violence in general. I just had a nagging feeling in the back of my mind that we'd get some uncomfortably lingering focus on a real-life murder. Having said that I felt the end of Hateful Eight got towards the sadistic end of the scale, too.

There's a bit of Hateful Eight level sadism, but...
Hmm, there's not much I can say without massive spoilers haha.

I feel like it might be Tarantino’s worst film, but that’s not really saying much negative. I loved Decaprio and Pitt in it, and a lot of the side stuff was fun, but it’s probably too meandering and doesn’t really go anywhere for me.
That being said I’m probably going to go see it again this weekend and see if another viewing changes my mind at all.

it was okay, not great. Brad and Leo were great, and several of the scenes were really good, but a lot of it was pointless and there's no reason to pad out a film to be closer to 3 hours than 2 hours just to shoehorn in more songs while someone's driving

It wasn’t in my top 5 QT films, but I still found it a very enjoyable watch. Needed more Margot feet, jk.

Jon Benn knew Tates dad who was a colonel and he was supposed to be there but luckily did not go
I've seen pics of Manson murders , a woman was lying on the floor with blood but I dont think it was Tate...nasty stuff

I’m going to see it today. Don’t think there is anyway I won’t enjoy Leo and Brad chewing scenery like bubblegum. That’s worth the price of admission to me.
