The flashback scene on the boat, she calls herself Natalie; it's gotta be her.
Saw it a second time yesterday, and during the third act, some lady was cackling like Max Cady from the dog food can to the flamethrower haha.

Saw it a second time yesterday, and during the third act, some lady was cackling like Max Cady from the dog food can to the flamethrower haha. I watched a thing this morning that pointed out how that Rebecca Gayheart on that boat looked a little TOO much like Angelina Jolie for it to be a coincidence. I cackled like that throughout the entire 3rd act. Too much awesome going on. Also...luuuuurrrrrrv how Tarantino draws tension in that scene from anticipating Cliff unleashing Brandy on the unsuspecting morons. Pretty sure I was one of only 3 people who cackled during the Italian montage, at the Basterds easter egg (yes, I know the person in question was a real person...but...still. Also, I know 3 people cackled at it because 2 of them were friends of mine that I didn't even know were in the same screening as me until AFTER and it was one of the things we discussed hahaa...) {Spoiler}{SPOILER: } The thing was distracting to me had nothing to do with the movie, per se. There were these two older ladies (I saw them before the movie...they walked in ahead of me and sat one row behind me) who I quickly found out had NEVER seen a Tarantino movie before. I mean, that was the only conclusion I could draw based on the RUNNING CONVERSATION they kept having behind me. My theory is they had seen the TV spots and not knowing a damn thing about Tarantino assumed it was probably a period-accurate, historically accurate trip to their 20's (they were def. Boomers.)

You know what I really love about the Bruce Lee scene? {Spoiler}It helps establish just how badass Cliff is. The fact that he is able to whoop Bruce Lee’s ass(and sorry Bruce, but you did get your ass whooped, you can walk away with some semblance of pride intact in that it was officially a 1-1 draw, but Cliff freaking tanked one of your flying kicks and then ragdolled you into a car door hard enough to not only leave a you-shaped crater in it, but pop something out of place) while sober, meant that even drunk and stoned, he was still more than good enough to kick the Manson Family’s ass.

I LOVE that whole thing.
Also, do we all agree that Kurt Russell's character is probably Stuntman Mike's Dad? Because I sure as shit believe that.

Also, the film made $40.35 million domestic opening weekend. That’s Tarantino’s biggest opening domestic gross in his career, beating out Inglorious Basterds by almost $2.3 million.

I'm torn on seeing this.
Leo is probably my favorite actor of all time, and I fully believe in his ability to make a movie good. Pitt is a guy I generally like, though he misses sometimes for me, but generally does well with odd characters. So I like that aspect.
On the other hand, I completely despise Tarantino and every movie he touches. He seems like an absolutely intolerable person on top of also being the most overrated hack in movie history, IMO.
So I'm just not sure if I am going to bring myself to give it a shot.

If you don't like Tarantino movies, you won't like this one. Thank you for being honest. Everytime I mention not liking Tarantino, I get a shocked/dumbfounded look, followed by 20 minutes of people going "What about (insert movie here)? Did you see THAT one?" until they run out of things to list. They then give me a shortlist of his movies that I HAVE to see RIGHT NOW because then I will love him SO MUCH OMG! The only ones who *might* be worse are Tim Burton fans. Jesus, save me from being told how wrong I am for hating "Nightmare Before Christmas"...

No problem. Diffstrokes. Just saying this one is very much like his others; if that's not your taste, this one won't change your mind haha.

The only gripe I have with it is a certain aspect of Tarantino's is on display likely more than ever in it. {Spoiler}{Spoiler}Feet. I liked it, I'll have to rewatch it to decide definitively but I think this may have been Tarantino's best outing of his recent ones (I felt he peaked a little with the Kill Bill series and while his efforts since have been nowhere near bad, they're a mark or two below his earlier outings with the exception of Django maybe). Pitt, Leo and Sayuri were all amazing (and I loved a lot of Tarantino's usual suspects in their brief roles), I thought Margaret Qualley and Margot Robbie kind of stole the show from everybody else every time they were on screen and really wowed me. Robbie especially as I've never been a big fan of hers and haven't thought much of her in her other roles, but she did some of the best acting of her career I'd say and had a lot of subtle moments that really made me believe her in the role. I hope for more of this from her in her future movie roles and less of what's come before this. I think a big factor for people will be if you're cool with a movie taking its time, because this certainly does. But I've definitely seen movies that take their time in ways more tedious than this and have less of a pay off than this does. I do find it fascinating that all of the Manson kids were second/third generation Hollywood kids (Maya Hawke, Margaret Qualley, Dakota Fanning, Harley Smith, Rumer Willis and so on). It's a nice touch. The movie gives me hope that Tarantino's going out as a director on a high note with his next one.

Oh joy, now comes the backlash against the film(and shockingly, no, not because of the ending).
The thing making a lot of people mad is the Bruce Lee scene, and people are coming out the woodwork saying they hate it and felt it was a mockery of the man.
Now granted, almost no one had said a peep about the scene until Shannon Lee came out and said she didn’t like it, which fair play to her, that’s a representation of her father, she’s free to feel about it however she wants, but the timing of everyone else complaining about the scene feels a bit...off.
Another thing that isn’t really gelling with me about this is a lot of the people mad at the scene are saying people were laughing at Bruce’s portrayal in the movie. While certainly people were laughing during the scene at my screening, it was never directly at Bruce or the things he said or did himself. It was always things involving the other characters that got the laughs, like Cliff’s manslaughter quip, or the characters who came in to end the scene and their reactions to what had transpired.
Bruce himself was presented pretty strongly, I felt.

And it was him basically saying 'oh...I have a foot fetish, huh? Well check THIS shit out!" and intentionally going balls (of the feet) to the wall with it.

Bruce himself was presented pretty strongly, I felt. There's a podcast the Ringer has been running (I just finished the 3rd, and final, episode this morning on my way to work) where the host discusses movies that were in some way important or influential to Quentin (all of them have been screened at his personally curated theater.) One of the movies they discussed was 'Enter The Dragon.' They discuss this scene some & QT is not a man who would have done anything to make a mockery (even briefly) of Bruce By God Lee. I still contend that this scene, told via Cliff flashing back, is supposed to be how Cliff remembers it...a bit of the ol 'unreliable narrator.' Because in no universe, even as bad ass as Cliff is portrayed to be in this movie, would a middle aged stuntman have been able to lay a finger on Bruce f***ing Lee

I'm sure he did go over the top with the feet to poke fun at it, but when you watch his movies close together dunno how it's not abundantly clear that dude's fetish isn't alleged. At the very least, bro likes feet
