In his book, Steve Austin says the man who trained him had a bad energy around him, but doesn't go into much detail. He had a long career, but the only time I hear Adams mentioned on a podcast is barely in passing when Jim Cornette talks about World Class. Besides Austin and Cornette, Bruce Prichard must have crossed paths with Chris in the Texas wrestling scene, too. With the way Austin treated Adams in his book, I think there must be some story material there. Have any shoot interviews covered the life and career of Chris Adams?

Yea lots of shoots detailing how much of a piece of crap Adams was. Kinda odd that Austin heels on Adams for wife beating when Austin did the same time years later.

IIRC Joe Neglia knew Adams for a bit towards the end of his life.

IIRC Joe Neglia knew Adams for a bit towards the end of his life. I did, and while I will stay on record saying that our interactions were always good, I am fully aware now of what a complete piece of trash Adams devolved into. He's responsible for at least one woman's death, accidentally overdosing her with one of the various date-rape drugs. Chris had an amazing amount of talent and when he was sober, Chris was one of the best in the ring at the time. It's a shame he spent the last 15 or so years of his life drunk and drugged up pretty much 24/7.

An amusing Chris Adams story is that Billy Jack Haynes was brought to World Class to fill in for one of the Von Erichs, who was looking to potentially be in a film.
The idea was, he'd beat Adams for the TV title. Adams, though, was dating Billy Jack Haynes' ex wife, who would later be Austin's wife. Not only did Adams not show up, fearing reprisal, there's even some who say he left Dallas for a few days, until someone could assure him he would not have to work with Billy Jack.
Billy Jack Haynes is... Billy Jack Haynes, so I can say I understand why Adams was afraid. If Billy Jack wanted to kill him, he would have, and probably easily.

I know Billy Jack may not have had both oars in the water and I’m not saying he’s not tough but considering Adams’ background in Judo, my money would be on Adams

Billy Jack had a green card marriage to Jeannie but things were very complicated there for a while, as per everything Chris Adams. His brother had a fairly high profile messy divorce in the UK too.

His Wrestling Observer obituary went into it. He was disliked initially for his propensity to get into trouble with the law - most notoriously his being arrested for attacking a pilot during a flight in the eighties when he was refused any more alcohol - and was considered insincere, manipulative, and abusive. Later on he became a promoter but quickly developed a reputation as a cheat and a conman and his promoting and career in general fizzled out.

Ahhh Pre-9/11 days, when you could beat up an airline pilot mid-flight(?) and only get a slap on the wrist (at least relative to what would happen to you if you tried that NOW)

HAHAHA, I WAS kinda wondering about the chain of events there. How do you go from getting turned away by the flight attendant to beating up the Pilot

If you like podcasts, and have the time, I would HIGHLY recommend checking out the Lapsed Fan’s “Lamentable Tragedy of WCCW.” There’s a pretty good discussion of Chris Adams and his ultimate death. It’s an excellent podcast that I actually learned of from this forum.
The short version of their conclusion as to why there was probably a lot of bad blood between Adams and Austin, based on his book and some statements made by others is that, by that point, WCCW was dying and Chris Adams was trying to make money on the side by running a “wrestling school” that advertised via infomercial on WCCW programming, but Adams was a jerk to the trainees, charged them too much money, and didn’t really do much in the way of training. The podcast goes into way more detail, but that’s the gist.

Never heard the story about him getting a woman killed before. What a piece of shit... It was a woman he was dating. He liked put a little GHB (or similar) in drinks (including his own). He put too much (as if "too much" can even be a thing on something like this) in hers, she passed out and never woke up. To be honest, he accidentally overdosed both of them, but when they were found, he was saved; she wasn't so lucky.

They don't brush anything under the rug from what I remember. Although him overdosing that girl on GHB might not have not been included or I just forgot that part.

When Dark Side Of The Ring was renewed for 10 more episodes Chris Adams one of the first people that popped into my mind. His story needs to be told to a bigger audience because it's pretty incredible. On Something to Wrestle With, Bruce Prichard told a story about himself and Chris partying with a group of people that they had just met. They ended up going to one of their homes, doing cocaine together and Bruce said Chris disappeared for a while. Turns out Chris was upstairs banging the guy's wife so as soon as Chris came down the two of them quickly got the hell out of there before the husband found out.
