"HEAR ME, FEAR ME" Mordecai debuted on Smackdown in 04 with that cross sword thing and then he faced Scotty 2 Hotty and Hardcore Holly. And then he teased a feud with Eddie and that's about all he did. But what if it wasn't? How would you book Mordecai in 04? Or in 2019 whatever. Would we see his monastery? Would his character arc be similar to the fallen monk of the 1796 gothic novel The Monk? Would he face Undertaker? Would he use that sword cross thing as a weapon? Did he ever use that sword cross thing? I think he threw Hardcore Holly into it. I remember that Hardcore Holly match more than I remember like every science class.

Is OK to say I think he should have had the Kevin Thorn gimmick from day one, instead?

Kevin Thorn was a miles better gimmick but he really suffered when Ariel was let go.

Man, I'm so glad I stopped watching 2004 SD just before WM 20. Motherf***er looked like Colonel Sanders.

The gimmick had a lot of promise, but he was just too green at that point.

They pulled the plug too soon. Did I think it'd click? Eh, not really, but it definitely deserved more time. The Undertaker didn't set the world on fire from the get-go. But he did set his house on fire. HIYO!

I'm going to assume this happened in character.

I've also heard they dropped the character because he had stage fright.

Ah, yes, the strange, wonderful world that was Smackdown 2004.
I was really disappointed when they dropped the character as soon as they did. Definitely agree it should've been given more time. Perhaps in the era of NXT, he would've been able to iron out the kinks before joining the main roster. At the time, he randomly lost to Rey one week and then he was gone just like that.

I think having him on Raw would have been preferable. On the same show as the Undertaker, everyone’s gonna be like “So how long til this dude loses to the Undertaker?” At least on the other show he might could have become his own thing.

It was bad, and there was no where interesting for something like this to go apart from a paint-by-numbers Taker feud that you know the gimmick was designed for. But this was also the time they were considering making Heidenreich a frozen Nazi, and Kanzo Susuki a reincarnation of Emperor Hirohito. Just so much creative tone-deafness to extreme levels.

I liked him and still don’t see this stage fright BS I’ve read over the years as I’ve watched his one month run. I’ll never get why they had him cut a promo on Eddie not factor that into his loss at GAB and then have Eddie send him packing.
