So this was the WWE's Lord of the Rings gimmick, right? Because it seemed like that at the time for some reason.

Still salty about them not just doing the Taker feud for Summerslam. Poor guy had to hear the following:
"You're too green for Taker. He only gets the best of the best like Giant Gonzalez, Mabel, King Kong Bundy, Diesel, Sid, Kronik, Heidenreich, The Great Khali and some guy named Kozlov"

I think the gimmick sucks and the look sucks and Fertig was a mundane wrestler at best.
I wasn't watching at the time but I look at the footage and screen caps and find it unbelievable that this gimmick dates from 2004 and not 1994.
I am aware that I am in a minority in thinking the whole thing was garbage from jump street, but this is one of the examples where I just can't even see the potential other people can see.

I liked him. But Kevin was green as grass back then. When he came back for ECW he was much more confident and it showed.
