This is very clearly in character, as most things Jericho says publicly are these days.
The guy is a master of his craft. He wants to fool the smarks, and it's working.

Jericho will be back in WWE eventually. If AEW can get three good years out of him to help build their brand and help create new stars they will take that. AEW will get his last full run for sure Jericho is in a pretty position to be able to play both sides. I still think the smartest thing he did was not attach his name as a VP for AEW. He could claim he is just another wrestler

I think it is stupid to try and fool the internet to be mad at you IRL. But anyway I doubt that without him they wouldnt get Moxley.

I don't think it is really fooling anyone Everyone knows Jericho schtick, they just get tired of trying to decipher whether he's working or not so you just comment on it and leave it at that No one is going to get up in arms because he said what he said

It's nothing but people taking him seriously and being at least mildly upset at him. They really think he's taking credit for all of these things and saying shit like "For that, I demand a thank you" because people in a company HE'S NOT EVEN IN got raises. ALL of the shit he said in that interview fits perfectly into his current character, and people are feeling a certain way about him. That's being worked. He's managed to bring back a small amount of kayfabe in 2019, and people are buying it. He's using the internet and the smarks to get heat, and that heat will translate into money because people now want to see him lose. He's using new-school mediums to get old-school heat. It's f***ing fantastic.

Where is this wanting Jericho to lose the title or watch AEW. People are just going typical Jericho, which is a pretty meh response. If you said he was working when people got up in arms about him potentially being drunk and losing the title you'd have a point but I don't see anyone losing their minds over this. Just like in any Jericho thread when he says something, it is the same response. In fact, there is a good amount he's right responses

The largely negative reaction to when Jericho says anything legit confuses me. Says nothing offensive, combative, or controversial, but still gets shit all over just for existing.

Just all the crazy shit from him over the years The fact that Jericho is always working has annoyed people and even when he isn't, his hubris will rub people the wrong way. At the end of the day all Jericho wants is a reaction whether good or bad because for him he can make it work either way due to how good he is

He's not wrong though. They are at war with WWE whether they want to be or not. Right. Any argument to the contrary was dead when the freeze on firing people was revealed with WWE. Like, what other reason would there be to do that?

He's clearly in character here. And his character trait is saying bombastic stupid shit to get himself over. Which is what he's doing.
*cue Racist Orange Goblin's tweet about people working themselves into a shoot brother* lol

Jericho man, even if this can potentially be somewhat true, this guy's sounding like he wants a war as much as Vince does. Am I the only one who thinks Jericho will damage AEW in the long run? His mindset seems to be different from everyone else's. Most don't want to fight, Jericho pushes the idea of fighting. Jericho's saying the most publically, Jericho's champion which has advantages but at the same time he's at the top of the card, I don't know. He needs to pull back on some of this stuff. It kinda feels like that at some point Jericho started to drink his own Kool-Aide. He has started developing that kind of arrogance and ego that he used to claim to despise in the older stars that held down talent like himself and spun fake stories to bolster their own cred.

Are we going to need an all-purpose "Chris Jericho says stupid shit" thread in the near future? No, because most of us know that he's doing this in-character. I think it is stupid to try and fool the internet to be mad at you IRL. ...judging by this thread and others, it seems to work.

Yeah you could really hear it on his podcast back when he talked about himself. It doesnt matter if it's "in character" or not because he's been doing this for years. It's classic Jericho. Man that Jericho return to WWE is gonna be wild lmao.

It's not like I expect Mark Hamill to pretend he has real Jedi powers and act like Luke Skywalker in interviews. It's just....weird and antiquated to me. I guess if it actually works in drawing people that would be one thing. But does it?

He has started developing that kind of arrogance and ego that he used to claim to despise in the older stars that held down talent like himself and spun fake stories to bolster their own cred. But does he, though? Like, Jericho was never this "aw shucks, guys, I'm just so glad to be here!" guy. He's always been a self-promoter, always pushing for how he's used. This is the guy who would contact dirt sheets to ask them if they'd heard of that Chris Jericho guy early in his career to try to get buzz, who would BS his way into bookings, like getting him and Storm onto Smoky Mountain by selling himself, or grin and bear BS promises to get booked in Mexico or Japan by shady promotions or with iffy gimmicks like Super Liger because he saw it as his ticket to bigger and better things. Jericho's always been his biggest believer, and it usually works out for him. Granted, it almost f***ed him over big in 1999 in WWF, but usually, it's meant he always has an advocate.

The anti-WWE people will eat that stuff up. It's a different method than what Cody, the Bucks and Moxley have been doing as they're really doing it more positively. I get it's promoting but yeah, that's not the wave unless you want to use people's anger towards something. With the others it's more about showing how you're different, proving it, Jericho's way is just different.

I think it is stupid to try and fool the internet to be mad at you IRL. Is it, though? I mean, first off, it's clearly working. Jericho can't cut a wet fart without people talking about it. That's buzz, that's promotion. And, as I said before, he's actually brought kayfabe into the modern era. He's working his gimmick at all times, and people have no idea how to react to it. It's god damn brilliant. In the pre-internet days, people didn't hate Ric Flair or Bobby Heenan or the Freebirds or any heel in kayfabe or in character because they had no idea that they were characters to begin with. As far as fans were concerned, these people WERE bad people. The hatred they felt for those wrestlers was very real. Jericho has managed to create a genuine animosity toward him among fans, and especially smarks like us. This is happening in a time where fans think they know everything, and Jericho has made people genuinely dislike him because he has convinced them that he IS this character. And what makes it great is the fact that he has found the perfect balance of real heat and drawing eyes without getting "go away" heat. People can say what they want, but they are turning out in droves to see him. They want him to get his commuppance. They genuinely dislike this guy, and it's awesome.
