I hated that gimmick "thank god i'm an asshole" 2006 to 2008 I thought this guy was the next Austin. Yep. I'm not even the only one. It is mind blowing. Making the thread based upon this convo How did you feel about the gimmick? It def got him over but I thought it was just dumb all things considered with stuff like "thank god i'm an asshole" and wrestling is real, people are fake It seems like that is the gimmick he wanted and tried to be Steve Austin as much as possible. It got killed in the water tho with his feud with Morgan and Immortal and then having to carry that horrid Jeff Hardy title belt for his title reign that didn't last too long

In fairness, I thought he was the next Austin until he left WWE. Then I was just less excited about him in TNA, because I was less excited about TNA. And then TNA rapidly exposed him.

It peaked at Sacrifice 2010, after that he became so annoying that makes the Dark Order look bearable in comparison.

When you turn enough times to make Big Show blush, no gimmick is going to work. And it didn't help that he was a truly awful face.

Shame they didn’t get Denis Leary to do his theme song.

Parts of TNA, he was alright enough, but he never lived up to expectations. I really liked the announcing himself gimmick, but anything else they did with the guy just showed why WWE leaned into the announcing bit.
Weirdly, he was one of the more solid parts of Aces and Eights, but that's more because Aces and Eights was like 70 percent shit.

That was my favourite part of his entire run, along with him breaking from the group and being the one to finally end it. Shame the feud with Bully Ray went on for so long afterwards and that coincided with the truly awful character of Bully at that time.

A more talented wrestler could've gotten the "I'm an asshole" gimmick over. It was a bad gimmick but also showed just how much of a one-note performer Anderson was.

I feel like "The Next Austin" is to wrestling as "The Next Nirvana" is to Rock Music.

It was too annoying in the beginning and boring ever after that. Anderson was the sorta guy who should've just had an obnoxious prick real estate agent style gimmick and he would've been sorted from the get go.

In WWE I can see fans thinking he would be something big but he screwed the Mr. McMahon son angle which would probably have been much better than Hornswoggle and got a lot more fame based on Kennedy's talent and the name "Kennedy." In TNA, which is basically a indy promotion with a TV show, most performers will never live up to what they could have been in WWE.

I feel like "The Next Austin" is to wrestling as "The Next Nirvana" is to Rock Music. It absolutely is. It's why I feel so stupid in hindsight.

Don't think I had much of a problem with the gimmick itself. My annoyance with Anderson came when TNA started shoehorning him into everything to justify his continued employment.

It was really sad seeing him look like Homer Simpson in his last year with the company.
