Since today is Friday the 13th we were discussing superstitions at work and a co-worker told me his mom banned him from whistling at night because it attracts snakes to the property. He said it was only at night and he could whistle all day, but when the sun went down that shit had to stop.
What's the dumbest superstition you have or have heard of?

If I’m at the checkout and the last 3 numbers of the total are 6.66 I’ll buy a pack of gum or something to change it

There was a belief that Birmingham City's football ground was cursed by gypsies who used to live on the land. In an attempt to reverse the curse manager Barry Fry urinated in all four corners of the ground.

My late aunt refused to be handed knives or scissors. You had to set them down on the table, and then she'd pick them up.

A friend of mine knew a guy growing up who said it was bad luck to put your hat on the bed.

A friend of mine knew a guy growing up who said it was bad luck to put your hat on the bed. My dad said it was an old Italian superstition to put hats on tables. That was the only one I weirdly follow mostly. Besides that? I don't give a shit about black cats, ladders, and all that.

The stupid black cat one is still so pervasive that it's one of the reasons they don't get adopted as much.
That and they don't look as good on instagram.
Yep.

The whole "not washing my lucky socks/jock/shorts/etc" among athletes is baffling
I don't think your crusty nut sweat stained jock is the reason your batting percentage is 2% higher this year

Because of how I watch TV on my bed, I never sleep where the headboard is.
Growing up my mom would tell my twin brother and I that if we sleep at the foot of the bed it would be easy for the boogeyman to snatch us from the bed.
Ehh I just like being close to the TV lol

There was a period of time when I was probably 13 or 14 where I thought I was a jinx to the Red Sox, so I started wearing a Yankees hat to pass my bad juju onto them. I even pretended to have switched allegiances to Yankee fan that I knew.
I don’t really buy into that stuff anymore, but every now and then if I switch onto a game where the team I like is winning and then they start losing... a tiny, minuscule part of my soul can still feel it.

I'm a bit OCD with a few things.
I have to have my TV volume on an even number. I always put my right sock on first & then my right shoe on first. When I put something in the microwave I have to set the time for an even number too. Like if something is going in for 45 seconds I'll set it for 46.
Also in every sports team I have played I have never worn an odd numbered jersey.

apparently, it's bad luck to pick up a coin on the ground if it's on the tails side. I really hate that

There was a guy who worked for my dad who was very superstitious. Especially about the number 13. We changed the screensaver on his computer to a bouncing 13 one time and he refused to touch it until we turned it off.
Whenever there was a Friday the 13th he would call in sick that day. One year my dad told him on Thursday that if he called in he was fired. So the next day he came to work. The office was at the end of a long service road. This guy always showed up really early. That morning there was so much fog that he missed the office and went off the end of the road into a deep ditch. My dad told him he could just call in from then on.

Speaking of 13...
Whatever the superstition is that keeps hotels from having a floor marked "13th floor".
