There was no way Sanada was winning but dude is gonna be Dolph Ziggler sooner than later at this pace.
He’s already starting to look like him.

Good grief, that main event went 37 minutes? I figured since they discussed it on TV all but saying it would be over half an hour that they would do a shorter 15 min. type of main event. Sometimes less is more guys.

Archer wins the United States Championship. If you would have told me in 2007 that my favorite big man wrestler, 12 years later, would be tramp stamp Vance Archer, I'd have had you committed. Man, I'm loving him right now.

It's really a bummer about the undercard changes. This card was looking absolutely amazing prior to the typhoon issues.
Even so, looks great. I've only had the US Championship match spoiled by accident, and I'm excited to watch that as well.
Right off the bat it's nice having Despy back. It felt like RPG3K were feeling him out with a bit of leniency/respect, and he quickly proved to be the same ol' Despy. Uncle Nobu hit all the right marks as usual. Didn't realize how much I missed this team.

I'm seeing some hand wringing over Naito's booking but I am willing to give them until WK to do something with the guy. I would guess he waxes Taichi at Power Struggle in order to get a rematch with White at WK. Then he would be in that double champion mix for that show. The question is who Naito would face in the 2nd night's main event.
Now if none of that comes to pass I'll join in with everyone ranting at Naito's booking.

The question is who Naito would face in the 2nd night's main event. Kind of has to be Okada doesn’t it? He’s the one guy he can’t overcome at Wrestle Kingdom and beating him basically ends that arc. Also because holy F*** I don’t need to see Naito and Ibushi attempt to kill each other for a long, LONG time.

I second not wanting to see Naito and Ibushi.
Their last match legit pissed me off. No match or moment is worth paralyzing yourself over. None.
You'd think after Misawa and Shibata, some of these guys would have learned that.
Naito has kids FFS

Just finished up watching, and good Lord I got chills at the end of Liger/Suzuki, while the US title and briefcase matches were really good, along with the sweet ending Okada busted out to throw SANADA off before putting him away.

They risk turning SANADA into Goto with these L’s
He needs a singles title down the line soon but there is no need to do him and Okada again unless it is SANADA picking up the victory in a title match (not the IWGP title per se)
Lance winning the US title is the right call. Juice needs to do something else. Maybe going towards NEVER title could help him. Hoyt most likely drops the title before WK but to whom is up in the air
I want Suzuki/ZSJ as a tag team moving forward too. Let them get the titles off G.O.D.

My first thought when Archer won was that Moxley will be back for WK and that they'll do a 3-way brawl with Juice going over each guy. I get why it'd be appealing to see him refocused in another division (FinJuice vs. Suzuki/Sabre for the tag belts, pls), but they still probably want to get that definitive "Juice beats Mox for all the marbles" moment.

Thought it was kinda bullshit that Mox got stripped of the title because of a typhoon. But I'm really happy that Archer won gold.

I seem to remember Shibata or Makabe getting stripped of the NEVER for having the flu. Can’t make the scheduled defense, then it gets vacated.

That's a real shame about Moxley and Sabre. Since both seemed to have angles this show would have built on. On the plus side I'm really happy for Archer.

Makabe had the bird flu in 2015 and had to vacate the title. They take title defenses more legitmately in Japan than in US. Can't make a defense, the title's held up

Can't make a defense, the title's held up Yeah, Charlton said it on commentary: "it sucks, but it's the rule" or something like that, if you're advertised to defend your title but can't make it for any reason the title is vacated. Hell, Chono once had to vacate the tag titles in the mid-90s...because he had to miss shows after his father died. Japan's always walked an odd line between shoot and kayfabe, and they want to maintain appearances at all times particularly when it comes to advertised cards. Can definitely argue stuff like that is taking it too far, but I guess it helps the "real sports" presentation when there are consistent rules at play. Only other typical reason is that something keeps a champion from defending their belt within a six month window, but this was a case of the former.
