This is the guy who made a joke about the Challenger disaster on TBS the same year as the actual disaster. Well, it would've aired had Dusty not shut down production and told Cornette to do the promo again. Hell, if we're pulling up old stuff, we don't even have to leave 2019. Here he is back in January, advocating and calling for the Nazi concentration camp-style murder of wrestlers who say wrestling is staged: How did that go under the radar ?

Yeesh. I thought that's what I heard earlier but I was cooking dinner while the show was on and my brain didn't really process it. As others have said earlier here, if one really wants to defend Cornette on this the best that can be offered is "fried chicken is a stereotype used on African Americans, not people in Africa". Doesn't change that your primary audience is still based in the country where that stereotype is very much a thing and will likely and understandably react to it, and that the expression in and of itself is tasteless and unnecessary even if the chicken stereotype is taken out of the equation, just lazy as hell. The only other defense I can think of is "it's an old expression he's used before, he used it off the cuff without thinking it through, and NWA screwed up by not spotting it, editing it out well in advance, and talking to Cornette about it as soon as they did to tell him expressions like that won't fly." Problem there is that Cornette has burned up just about any good will he's ever had among large swaths of wrestling fandom because he keeps saying awful shit, so it's a LOT harder to give him the benefit of the doubt. I suppose Jim could come out and give an earnest "I really @#$%ed up on that one, it's a phrase I've used in the past but I should be more on the ball if I'm going to be an announcer in the modern wrestling landscape" apology, but, well...it's Cornette, so I'm not banking on it, and again I wouldn't really be able to blame people who'd have a hard time accepting even a good apology after all the other stuff he's done and said. Is that fair? Maybe, maybe not, but it's reality: there are consequences to whittling away your good will in pursuit of grifter dollars from really awful people who like shitting on others for no good reason. When it comes to copping to a bad statement and owning the mistake, the reason Cornette doesn't get any benefit of the doubt is because he doesn't cop to the shit he says and back down from them, he just doubles down and lashes out at people for them. Getting called out for telling a woman to spend more time in the kitchen has him talking about how that's the place the 'average American housewife' is because statistics or some bullshit like that. He'll go off on how everyone is too sensitive on his podcast, fess up to nothing, and then next time this goes down people will wonder why everyone's assuming the worst of him. Rinse and repeat. Right: the odds that he'd actually do the right thing in this situation already feel incredibly remote. He apparently has apologized before, e.g. after the "so and so should be hung" comment a little while back, but it clearly isn't leading to any improvements in how he handles himself publicly so it really rings hollow, and other apologies he's done have that whole "Well I GUESS I'll apologize, sorry you're so offended" vibe. But yeah, even if the odds were defied and he DID offer a strong apology it wouldn't suddenly make people forget all the other things he's said before and it would have to be backed up by actual changes in conduct, and so far those haven't been forthcoming.

What kind of incredibly bad choice of metaphor was that even? Say what you will about Mauro Ranallo and his stretchy metaphors, he never dips into racial stereotypes or stereotypes of other countries, at least not to THAT level.

I can't speak for anyone else, but it's where I drew the line with him (I'm still surprised as hell I didn't get blocked by him doing so). I think maybe because most wrestling fans who read it didn't really get the reference.

That’s absolutely crazy, so he’s essentially ticked all the boxes you can in terms of offending everybody. Women, transgender, black people, Jewish people How is this man allowed on TV and still has business to speak of

But it probably got lost in the shitshow.

Women, transgender, black people, Jewish people How is this man allowed on TV and still has business to speak of He's old and connected, plus has a cult of personality, so people often tolerate him because he has a fandom, or because they got a break from him or were a fan of his, etc. I am reminded of his own words in a promo on Bill Watts, that Watts had too much pride to accept his day was over, that he had a mouth full of memories that his body can't cash anymore. Like many people, I will fully admit the guy has talent. So do a lot of people who aren't colossal pieces of shit, though, and Cornette is just going to keep trading on his past accomplishments until Corgan or others decide he isn't worth the trouble, same as TNA, WWE, and ROH did.

So is next year's Saudi show gonna have a triple threat with one team coached by Hulk one by Flair and one by Cornette?

he knows there will always be a Court or Billy that will pay and televise him It’s so weird that he keeps getting work in wrestling, because even if you disregard all of the offensive things that he says and does, his views on wrestling itself are antiquated at best. I’m sure there’s a place for him backstage, but on camera isn’t where it’s at.

Here he is back in January, advocating and calling for the Nazi concentration camp-style murder of wrestlers who say wrestling is staged: How did that go under the radar ? Bet you part of it was people offering defenses like "he could just be talking about the old whaling industry, it doesn't have to be about the Holocaust!" Which would be fine if, y'know, people didn't have to trot that type of defense out for him over and over again to justify things he says. Anyone can say an iffy comment here or there that's taken the wrong way, but if it keeps happening with almost everything a person says, that person is likely the root of the problem.

I’m sure there’s a place for him backstage, but on camera isn’t where it’s at. He's got a wealth of experience spanning decades, and they just see that and his listener base. Then they have to deal with the reality that the trade off just isn't worth it in the long run.
