I think the problem with Russo is that he’s probably great at understanding the casual fan...of 1998. The casual fan of 2019, though? It’s less of a tangible thing because there’s so many major differences, especially in the media that’s super popular. I’m not going to call the MCU the peak of narrative story telling but the reason Infinity War and Endgame were effective was because the characters in it had roles to play and throughout the other movies were established enough for viewers to care what happened to them. There’s nothing like that in WWE anymore except for a select few and even those select few feel like tropes rather than real, tangible people. Hell, there’s a reason people in Ireland are so passionate about Jordan Devlin when his NXT UK self doesn’t have that. It’s an unfair comparison for various reasons but it’s a reason why he can draw 2,000 people to a stadium at least twice a year. Perfect explanation, IMO.

Boy between this and a certain Jr he had on a few weeks back, Jericho is making it hard for me to want to listen to his show regularly. It's pretty easy to skip the episodes with guests you don't care about. I do it all the time.

The thing I liked about Russo was that he tried to have everyone have some kind of story line.
Sure, the story line was crap a lot of the time, but at least he was trying.

I listen to his some of his podcasts and he is great at identifying the problem. When he does that, I find myself thinking, "Why is this dude blackballed from wrestling again?" However, when he offers up his solution, I think, "Oh, right." Still, at least he can recognize and identify the problem, which is more than the WWE guys seem capable of doing these days. He needs a filter to succeed. He had that in WWF. It was Vince. In WCW and TNA he was unhinged.

I'd like to see Talk Is Jericho download trends.
Would assume popularity goes something like: 1. Top topic issue (Moxley, Russo, Tump Jr.) 2. Wrestlers 3. Retrospectives (w/ Dave Meltzer, Lance Storm, etc.) 4. Paranormal / conspiracies 5. Rock stars 6. Fozzy-related
So Le Champion knows when to pop a rating.
Looking forward to a Cornette interview about NWA in about a month.

He worked along with McMahon and had his support and backing and Vince shielded them from politics. McMahon is not a creative genius, but he knows nuance and how to tweak it. Russo didn't have that same support in WCW or TNA. He didn't have a chance to succeed like he did in the wwf.

Judy Bagwell on a forklift. In tna he was the main booker and had Samoa Joe kidnapped by ninjas. He needs a filter without it his worst ideas come to life.

He also put out alot of crap with "the Great Filter", Vince McMahon's approval, but overall he was successful in wwf because he had Vince's support. In Wcw, He had uncooperative established talent that didn't want to make new guys, poor communication from standards and practices, and a booking committee trying to be forced on him. In tna he had dixie's bad leadership and second guessing and cliques in the office trying to derail what he was doing. None of this happened during his time when McMahon supported him.

That's different from how guys like cornette, prichard and others would describe Vince "filtering" russo.

It’s not that they all weren’t winners, it’s that for the most part without McMahon, most of it sucked. I don’t need to list all of his bad ideas in tna and wcw, you just need to look at how both companies looked when he was gone. How come he has failed everywhere he has worked in without Mcmahon?

Those are all good points. But in fairness to Russo, if Vince McMahon was this amazing filter, why has WWE sucked for the last decade or so? Surely, he should be able to filter the ideas of the 30 guys on his writing team and the shows should be amazing. However, they are far from it. I honestly think that Vince McMahon and Vince Russo need each other. Vince Russo is a big idea guy who probably doesn't dot the i's and cross the t's. Vince McMahon is a details guy. Together, they helped to make my wrestling fandom in my adolescence an amazing experience.

I think Russo had the great run in TNA especially pre-Hogan stuff that was really on the roll before it all fell apart when red & yellow train head hit the fan.

Russo is a clever guy. He just needs a filter for his stupid ideas.

Vince Russo is a dumb out-of-touch racist.
Also a sexist homophobe.
