1000% correct. I listen to his some of his podcasts and he is great at identifying the problem. When he does that, I find myself thinking, "Why is this dude blackballed from wrestling again?" However, when he offers up his solution, I think, "Oh, right." Still, at least he can recognize and identify the problem, which is more than the WWE guys seem capable of doing these days. He needs a filter to succeed. He had that in WWF. It was Vince. In WCW and TNA he was unhinged. Do you think today's Vince McMahon can be a good filter for Russo?

Vince Russo is a dumb out-of-touch racist. Also a sexist homophobe. I've wondered this for a while, do you have that saved so you can copy & paste it or do you take the time to type it out fully every time?

Keep in mind that Vince Russo had the young bucks, Samoa Joe, Daniels, Okada working under him and he still managed to f*** it up.

Isn't your first post usually to say he's a dumb out of touch racist sexist homophobe? Edit - beaten to it and misquoted anyway

Russo actually says that Mcmahon wasn't a filter even back then. He was good at ADDING things to good ideas to make them even better. The problem now is he's not being brought good ideas to tinker with in the first place.

Russo is attention seeking whore & an idiot but like Bischoff his line delivery and voice tone is spot on for some wrestling character such as manager or something. My favorite authority figure is Bischoff to this day, there is just something so real and three dimensional about him that McMahon just can't replicate. I also loved Russo as a spokesperson for new gen wrestlers in WCW and TNA. You could hear he was always passionate about new blood and he always fought the establishment. New blood vs millionaires club wasn't nothing random but his real life fight turned into story line. At least he gave us Bret chairshot Hogan if I remember correctly.

The thing I always credit Russo with is giving guys something to do and in some cases, making them interesting when they were otherwise boring as all hell (see: Flair, David)

I’ve actually been thinking about this for a while, & I guess this is as good a time to bring it up as any...
Not too long ago I watched one of Russo’s first Nitro episodes (it was the one with Dustin’s Seven promo). And TBH, I was actually quite entertained. Not only did most of the main & secondary players have something going on, but almost every segment felt like it was progressing a story. I won’t say it was perfect—some of it felt like it was trying to be “edgy” just for the sake of edginess/to compete with Attitude Era Raw, and some of it hasn’t aged particularly well (i.e., the Kimberly/David Flair stuff or the Nitro Girl catfighting). But for the most part, I found it to be entertaining and coherent.
Which makes me wonder, how did it all go so wrong? Were the execs still restraining Russo at that point, until he gained their trust? Did Russo himself just get too comfortable & too cute? How did Russo WCW go from a fairly promising start, to the insanity of 2000?
