50. Rabid (Amazon Prime) This was an interesting take on the infected/zombie genre that only a weirdo like David Cronenberg could be behind. I really only watched it because I thought Mortician sampled the movie in one of their more popular songs (also called Rabid) but they didn’t. I watched it anyway and was glad I did. Cronenbergs movies have never been my cup of tea but this was easier for me to get in to. He’s never scrimped on gore and there is some decent, gross stuff up in this one (Rose’s armpit wound, yuck) plus some awesome brutality (Merry Christmas, Saint Nick!!!). It’s cool that it shows exactly how the outbreak started and then focused on those early days of terror and confusion. Those are always my favourite parts of outbreak stories. Once society has adapted (or should have adapted, after all the time-jumps the Walking Dead is ten years into the apocalypse, how dumb are these people?) I get bored. This was cool. Check it out.

All these years later, the visuals still hold up. The voice acting and story elements are there, as always with Pixar. [****]

Led by a tremendous performance from Alison Brie and some intriguing scenes regarding mental health, this movie is mostly a hit. It just ends in a way that kind of causes it to fall flat. Without sticking the landing, it can’t be anything above good. [***]

25. The Ugly Dachshund (1966)Next round in weird and obscure Disney+. It's also so far the oldest movie I've seen this year, although not the oldest I've watched on Disney+. I managed to catch White Wilderness last year before they pulled it off. So this stars Suzanne Pleshette (Emily on the Bob Newhart Show) and Dean Jones as a young couple who are raising a Dachshund who's about to have puppies. When the husband goes to pick up the puppies from the Vet the Vet also unloads an extra Great Dane puppy on him, which he, for reasons I still don't quite comprehend, tried to pass off as another Dachshund to his wife. Luckily they were smart enough to drop that joke pretty quickly and not try to drag it out through the whole movie. After that the movie settles into a very boring formula of the Dachshunds doing something mischievous, the much larger Great Dane either wanting to stop them or join them because he thinks he's also a Dachshund, hijinks ensure, and in the end the Great Dane gets blamed completely for the massive amounts of carnage that follow and the Dachshunds are no where to be found. There's also some racism. At one point the couple host a party catered by some Japanese-Americans. It's Asian people in a movie in the 60's, I think it's a given that it hasn't aged well. It's not the worst depiction of Asians in movies I've seen though, at least there was no yellow face. Also the future voice of everybody's favorite Shape Shifting Master of Darkness has a bit part in it. In the end the Great Dane proves himself to the family and everybody lives happily ever after. All I could think while watching this was there is no way Pleshette and Jones are gonna make it as a couple. They are both very selfish and rude people who constantly bicker, sleep in separate beds and their backyard is made of astroturf. No idea why that last one bugs me so much, but it just makes their garden look tacky. If you're the kind of person who misses the days when The Donna Reed Show was the most popular show on television, then this is for you. If not, then just be ever so grateful.

Something a little different that I will do. I will still keep the count going, but if I do a repeated viewing of something within the same year, I will label it a certain way.
R.V. (Repeated Viewing) 1: Sonic The Hedgehog - So I watched this again. Noticed some stuff the second time around. Still pretty enjoyable. I may still do a write-up of the film.
Also, I may number these in the future as R.V. (insert number). This will apply to repeated viewings within THIS year, not in general.

42. Moana (Disney+) This is a good movie but I’ve seen it so many times it’s pretty much dead to me.

Might have to check out this and the other one you posted Beast of Blood. Are they free on Amazon Prime? yes Cool stuff. Have you seen the movie Beast of Blood is an immediate sequel to Mad Doctor of Blood Island recently? That is one movie that has eluded me, but I read a review that said the film is much better if you watch the two close together. Like you said though the Blood films are pretty much trash. I watched Beast of Blood earlier today. The opening is badass and the one zombie looks pretty cool. Also, when the mad doctor gets his comeuppance it’s pretty cool. But other than that there is A LOT of boring crap. I don’t really get what makes those Blood films a series outside of them all having Blood in the title (or at least one translation of the title). The two above movies are closely connected but the one from the 1950’s and the one that came right after these two aren’t really connected. I’ve even seen Al Adamson’s Brain of Blood considered part of the series. But I think the other 4 had different levels of Filipino involvement whereas Brain of Blood is an American production. Brain of Blood was the only other one I’ve seen fairly recently. It’s about on par with Beast of Blood. When you make a film that’s on par with Al Adamson...well it’s not good.

I hate his voice I never even made it to the end of Beast of Blood so I have no idea what happened to the doctor. I know I saw the zombie head talk. I seriously turned it off with fifteen minutes left. I couldn’t take it any longer.

The opening and climatic zombie scenes are the only good things about the movie though. If it didn’t have about 85 minutes of crap sandwiched in between them it might be watchable. I soldiered through. Heck maybe one day I’ll even finish off the Blood series, but if I don’t I doubt I’m missing much After all in the 50 years these things have been out you’d think a fan would do an edit that seamlessly edits together the Mad Doctor and Beast of Blood movies. But no one has bothered. There’s not anyone sadistic enough. Or masochistic.

I didn’t know it had anything to do with the Mad Doctor of Blood Island until I was reading through its synopsis on IMDB, after I’d turned it on

#62 - Crawl
*DVD
This movie is pretty much exactly what it set out to be. Campy, low-budget monster fun with a solid performance from the lead. It’s nothing great but you’ll have a damn good time for the 87 minute runtime. [***]

Had myself a JCVD triple feature today. I've been on a Van Damme kick (no pun intended) lately.
37. Nowhere to Run - Watched this on Xfinity On Demand. I will say that the first half hour started slow, but it started to pick up as time went on. I didn't mind this movie and I could give JCVD some credit for trying to do something a little more dramatic at the time. One thing that caught my attention was that the sheriff character was played by the same guy who played Rod Belding in that one episode of "Saved By The Bell," as well as the father on that Peter Engel sitcom, "Malibu, CA." I actually kind of enjoyed it, but I would be lying if I said that loved the film. Though I wouldn't mind revisiting it.
38. Desert Heat (Also known as "Inferno," and at times, known as "Coyote Moon") - Watched this on YouTube. I remember watching this on USA way back in the day. Back when USA used to show movies a lot, especially some JCVD movies. So I found this on YouTube and I thought "just watch it." I had heard that the movie was tampered with, as you could see that the editing was a bit of a mess. It was hard to see if it was trying to be a comedy, a drama, and an action flick. But if you watch it, you can kind of see that the mesh of styles sort of work. Also, it was definitely kind of a take on "Yojimbo," which I might want to check out (I may even revisit "A Fistful of Dollars" while I'm at it). If you don't have a lot to do, it's a fun film to pass the time.
39. Maximum Risk - Watched this on DVD. I had been telling myself to watch this one for so long and I finally watched it today. Natasha Henstridge was good eye candy, but she also did a decent job in her role as the female lead. There were some good fight scenes and chase sequences. It was also kind of dark in a lot of ways, so I don't recall any scenes that got me laughing (Whether it's a one-liner or an unintentionally funny scene, like when I watched Double Team, because at least Knock Off was pretty goofy). It was definitely above average and I can definitely recommend this film.

40. My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising - Saw this in theaters. I will note that I have no real knowledge of this anime, but after watching this film, I really want to see the series and other film. I also wonder if the manga is good. I enjoyed this movie a lot.

While there are clear issues with pacing and length, Aquaman is a really fun superhero movie. It has stunning visuals, a charismatic lead, and is flat out good, sometimes cheesy, fun. [***½]

43. Swamp of the Ravens (DVD) This had potential but suffered from just being to boring. It’s “famous” for its “is it or isn’t it real” autopsy scene which really don’t look real at all. Some of the makeup is really good. The sheriff is f***ing hilarious. And the scenes at the beginning when the doctor is facing the committee of scientists or whatever are really cool. Overall it’s very grimey and I liked that. Despite being boring and not having the level of gore I wanted and expected there was just something I liked about this movie.

From a technical standpoint, this is pretty incredible. The cinematography is top notch and Aparicio is great. However, the plot is bland and never really says anything, making it boring and unfulfilling. [**½]
