#67 - Waves
*DVD
Half of this movie is pretty great. The second half is still solid but never grabs you the way the same way. There’s quality acting and themes throughout but this could’ve been special if it stuck the landing. [***]

25. The Ugly Dachshund (1966) 26. Aquaman (2018)You know, I never saw this in theaters and this is my first time watching it. It's actually really fun. It does a very good combining aspects of a modern action movie with the more fantastic elements of Atlantis, which has almost a fairy tale quality about it. It's not perfect, it gets a little clunky when trying to deal with exposition, and the final battle between Aquaman and Orm is a little too Snyder-y for my tastes. And I'm not gonna lie, Momoa looks ridiculous in the classic Aquaman outfit. But over-all it is definitely one of the better entries in the DCEU.

It doesn’t have the unique plot that I’ve come to expect from Pixar and it doesn’t reach their highest level of animation. However, it is still really good looking and features some characters that really grab you on an emotional level. Another home run for the studio. [****]
#69 - Joker
*Blu-Ray
Don’t go in expecting a comic book movie. It’s so different from everything else I’ve seen and I loved that. Phoenix is incredible and gives what might be my favorite performance all year. There are some pacing problems as it is a really slow burn. You’re dying to see him fully become the Joker. When he does, it is incredible. Beetz is underutilized, which disappointed me. All in all, you’ll leave this movie feeling kind of dirty and uncomfortable, which is exactly what it was going for. [****½]

![](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/9/9b/%22House_of_the_Living_Dead%22_%281973%29.jpg) 52. House of the Living Dead (DVD) This was terrible on all fronts but especially terrible because the film is so deteriorated that I could barely tell what was going on. There were times when scary music would play and the camera would zoom in but I had no idea what I was looking at. I like crusty but this was a bit much. The audio was extremely muffled too and I could barely tell what anyone was saying. Too bad. Maybe there was a good movie here that someone had just accidentally left in their pocket when they put their pants in the washing washing machine...and then dried them in the microwave.

Repeated Viewing #2: Bad Boys For Life - So I decided to watch this again. I had been meaning to, as well as had time to kill before I had to do other stuff. I still enjoyed it. Definitely something I may buy when it comes out on Blu Ray.
I also know that I have been meaning to do an actual review, but like others I have been meaning to review, I will post it when the time comes.

25. The Ugly Dachshund (1966) 26. Aquaman (2018) 27. Hook (1991)So I had jury duty today, and while killing time waiting for my name to be called I pulled this up off of Netflix steaming. Why? Because it's goddamnit Hook, that's why. And I have nothing more to add to that. Highest recommendations. Bangarang.

A bit of a underrated gem. While this is not a classic, it is just a flat out delightful movie with a charming cast and great relationships. [***½]

47. Half Past Dead - Watched this on DVD. You know what? I know that this movie gets a lot of hate and all, but I can't help but enjoy it, even it's for the wrong reasons. There are so many problems with this movie, yes, particularly how it's so obvious that it was initially supposed to R-rated. Seriously, the rap songs on there are proof with the edits, as well as Ja Rule saying "mother..." but it was edited. Also, it was funny to hear Steven Segal try to talk all street.
I am now curious about the straight-to-DVD sequel with Goldberg. The funny thing that I found out was that Kurupt was the only link to the first film as he had returned and reprised his role. I might check it out soon.

![](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/e/e5/Terror_at_Red_Wolf_Inn_poster.jpg) 53. Terror at Red Wolf Inn (DVD) A cannibal movie featuring the most unlikely cannibal family I’ve seen in awhile. They’re the polar opposite of the families in the Texas Chain Saw Massacre or Hotel Hell...until the young boy catches a shark while fishing and then gets...weird. Sadly it wasn’t gory but it was still entertaining despite that. The lead girl was really cute so I liked just looking at her.

The best DCEU movie to date. The cast is all clearly having a good time, while the characters are well-developed, diverse, and clever. The film is vibrant, violent, and the late team up feels earned. The soundtrack is excellent, as well. I can see myself watching this often because it’s so much fun. [****]

![](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/3/33/2000maniacs.jpg) 54. Two Thousand Maniacs! (Bluray) This movie is better than H.G. Lewis’ Blood Feast from just one year earlier in every way except one. The filming is better, the story is better (Blood Feasts was pretty laughable), the music is better (that song that plays during the opening credits is so great), the acting is better (even Connie Mason, who was hotter in Blood Feast but couldn’t act for shit in that movie and was infinitely better in this one); the only downside: there’s gore, great gore, but it wasn’t quite as impressive as Blood Feasts. But you have to weigh out the two: do you want an enjoyably masochistic movie with really good gore effects or a terrible movie with epic gore effects? I’m going to have to go with the former because it was able to keep my attention and me entertained for its entire run-time rather than a few fleeting moments. There’s some seriously nasty shit in this one.

A beautifully crafted story told in a way that really makes you feel. The animation is top notch, the characters are easy to invest in, it’s sweet, and tells a brilliant love story. The genius of it all is honestly underrated. A classic. [*****]

Color Me Blood Red (Bluray) This is a definite step down from the previous two movies in the Blood Trilogy. It has a good concept but it’s really boring. There is gore and good gore but it’s just too far between.

I usually don't put up artwork, whether it's home media art or poster art, but I will make an exception for these two. I may do this on occasion in the future. ![](http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-kAU7ij91-XE/UGmkLl43qII/AAAAAAAAONg/YsVjh7aroGc/s1600/Under+Siege.jpg) 49. Under Siege - Watched this on DVD. So I have been on a Steven Seagal kick lately (Though I don't feel that my JCVD kick is done), I had been telling myself to watch this again. It still holds up as one of the better Die Hard clones and also one of Seagal's best films. Not to mention Erika Eleniak and her assets. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) Anyway, Tommy Lee Jones played a great villain. He didn't have to be all sinister and brooding to be a good villain. He definitely hammed it up in his role. Still one of the best films from Seagal. ![](http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fmK5beH4Mrs/Tl55gyOD2gI/AAAAAAAAAJM/jkb8G7kDzgc/s1600/Under+Siege+2+2.jpg) 50. Under Siege 2: Dark Territory - Watched this on Blu Ray. First and foremost, regarding this poster, I am aware of the more famous artwork with Seagal hanging on the train, but I kind of liked this one better because it's similar to the poster for the first one. Plus, I liked the contrast in lighting. Anyway, I know that some people crap on this one, but I still find it to be entertaining. Sure, you can talk about the technical issues like the obvious backdrops in some scenes (it was the 1990's, we didn't advanced technology for backdrops yet), but the action was still entertaining. Also, Eric Bogosian hammed it up big time in his performance. Though I will note that some camera angles were it bit much, especially with the wide angle shots during scenes with Bogosian. But it's still an entertaining thrill ride. Wow, 50 movies so far this year for me? This is even more than how many I was watching around this time last year. I guess I can chalk that up to my double-features and such.
