424. Waxwork (1988) – fun horror/comedy that I hadn't watched in a long time but still held up really well for me, it's the sort of film I consider a real easy watch and the running time just flies by.
425. Very Good Girls (2013) – drama starring Elizabeth Olsen and Dakota Fanning (who I dont always think gets the credit for her acting ability these days), the film works mostly because of the them and their chemistry in my opinion.
426. Necessary Roughness (1991) – American football comedy not directed by Garry Marshall, even though it features Larry Miller and Hector Elizondo (which made me think he was involved somehow). Overall an enjoyable movie even if it ticks all the sports movie cliches and I tend to like sports movies even though I don't really keep up with any sport anymore.
427. James and the Giant Peach (1996) – was a big fan of Roald Dahl as a child and even looked forward to movies of his when I was a teen such as this and Matilda. The stop motion animation like TNBC is excellent. Overall I find this a great movie.

135. Monster in the Closet *DVD* I first heard of this movie twenty years ago when I discovered the website badmovies.org (which is still up and running but hasn’t been updated in almost ten years). I expected a bad move and I got that but I thought it was a “serious” movie, which it’s not. It’s a parody of monster movies but it doesn’t go “full on” like other movies. Like one scene where the entire army is firing at the monster and it’s panning to all the various soldiers you’d expect them to show a guy throwing rocks or shooting a chicken like a gun, but none of that. It’s a parody for sure but a different kind. Too bad while it was violent it wasn’t gory or bloody and was pretty much PG rated. The monster itself was really cool, good costume and really scary. Plus it was in the movie a lot more than most monster movie monsters are.

#175 - Star Trek Into Darkness
*Blu-Ray
Even with an ending I didn’t love, there’s a ton to like about this installment. It’s a ton of fun, featuring great acting, and some excellent action throughout. That makes this a blast of a sci-fi movie. [****]

I had myself quite a Steven Seagal marathon today. Here I go.
109. Above the Law - Watched this on Blu Ray. This, along with the others that I watched (which I will get to), I had watched this about 3 1/2 years ago, when I went through a bit of Seagal kick. I remember getting this mixed up with Out for Justice for a while. Probably because Seagal's character's name was Italian in both films and he was a cop. Didn't help that I forgot most of it. Anyway, this was a good start to his film career. Yes, this was pre-Under Siege, with that one being a hit. However, this one was kind of a rare case where you'll see Seagal getting his ass handed to. Pam Grier was good as the partner. There were some brutal action scenes. Definitely worth a look if you want to see Steven Seagal when he first started acting.
110. Hard to Kill - Watched this on DVD. I remembered this one a lot more. This one was a lot cheesier and it seemed that there was some problems with the editing. I read somewhere that there were scenes that were left out during the editing process. As per usual, it delivered on the action. Kelly Le Brock was easy on the eyes (Yes, I am aware she was married to Seagal around that time). I really wonder if there was another cut with some of the cut scenes left in there. It probably would have made it better.
111. Out for Justice - Watched this on DVD. Now this one was definitely among the better ones that was before Under Siege. William Forsythe played a good villain. It had more police procedural stuff going on, while still having some slightly over-the-top action scenes. I will note that I had a good laugh at Seagal trying to do a New York accent.
112. Marked for Death - Watched this on Starz on Demand. This was more of a bonus because I was tempted to watch it. I got to say that this was among the better pre-Under Siege films. It was better than Hard to Kill, which also came out the same year as this one. Basil Wallace was great as the bad guy. He was freaking scary, too! Let's not forget that the car chase was the best part of this movie. Even the scene after in the store was pretty good.
113. The Glimmer Man - Watched this on Xfinity on Demand. I thought "why not one more film?" I know a lot of people dislike this movie. I could only guess that some of the reasons were because it was hard to see if it was a serious action film or an action comedy. Because there were some comedic bits in it, like the scene at the Chinese store, and also the banter between Seagal and Keenen Ivory Wayans. This was definitely underrated because I had fun with this movie and oddly enough, the comedic sequences sort of worked in some areas while also making room for serious/dark scenes.
Man, five movies in one day? This is probably the most I have seen in one day in quite a while. I have done four, but five? Not sure if I have ever watched this many in a day.

128. 22 Jump Street (2014)129. The Mask of Zorro (1998) 130. Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (2006) 131. Little Big League (1994)DVR'd this off the MLB channel. This is the one where a kid that I didn't realize wasn't Frankie Muniz until the credits rolled inherits the Minnesota Twins and decides to become their manager. Although you probably better know it as the movie you watch when you confuse it with Rookie of the Year. So yeah, this is a decent, fun kids sports movie. No complaints. 132. Addams Family Values (1993)DVR'd this off the Paramount Network. I've been trying to watch the old Addams Family movies lately, this was the only one I could find that I didn't have to pay extra for. So yeah, another fun movie that easily made Christina Ricci a star.

114. Bloodsport - Watched this on DVD. Had myself a little Van Damme double feature today. It had been a while since I had last watched this. Great fight scenes and an intimidating villain make up for some scenes involving a contrived love story and other things. It deserves to be heralded as one of JCVD's best films, especially when talking about his martial arts films.
115. Kickboxer - Watched this on DVD. It had been quite some time since I last saw this as well. It definitely has the same charm as Bloodsport does. I heard that there is an uncut version with not only extra scenes, but I heard that the brother used his real voice as it was clear that he was dubbed in the theatrical cut. Definitely a fun martial arts flick.

136. Island of Death *DVD* This was a harsh expose of depravity. Very similar to Cannibal Holocaust and Last House on Dead End Street but it didn’t leave me feeling quite as sick to my stomach as those two did. It’s one of those that after being kinda “meh” on what I’ve been watching of late I’m really glad I discovered.

130. Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (2006) 131. Little Big League (1994)132. Addams Family Values (1993) 133. Dark City (1998)So this is one of those movies I've always been curious about, but never actually curious enough to, y'know, sit down and actually watch it. About a year ago I finally decided to just throw this onto my Netflix queue and it finally arrived earlier this week. I was actually surprised at how much I stayed with it. Thematically it had a lot in common in common with Blade Runner, I movie I watched earlier this year and had a very hard time staying focused on. This kept my interest the whole way through and I really enjoyed it.

#176 - Shirley

A trippy movie that keeps you guessing throughout. There are a few issues with pacing but it mostly holds your interest. The plot also isn't the best. However, everything is held together by Elisabeth Moss putting in a hell of a performance. [***]

137. Trip with the Teacher *DVD* This was a surprisingly good mid-1970’s sleazy psychotic thriller. Zalmon King played the psychopathic older brother perfectly and all the other actors and actresses did a good job in their roles, despite some questionable decisions; like the one guy escaping the cabin yet he still took the time to put his loser geek helmet on when he got on his bike, and when he could have just killed the one brother who was being distracted by three of the girls then all taken out the other brother together. Or when the one brother runs after one girl leaving his brother in the cabin drunk, couldn’t the remaining girls have just overpowered the drunk brother then the other brother when he got back? The girls are all really cute too and it’s one of those rare movies where I didn’t like seeing harm come to anyone (save the bad guys) despite how dumb they were.

#177 - I Kill Giants
*Hulu
For a lot of this movie, I wasn't totally feeling it. The story was interesting but the lead character was annoying. I get that she was a strange girl but she was also too mean to everyone to be liked. However, that all changes once you get to the bottom of things. Whether the giants are real or not and what the girl is going through all comes together remarkably well and makes the whole thing worth it. Madison Wolfe is spectacular. [****½]

428. Boys on the Side (1995) – The three leads are great particularly Drew Barrymore. I liked this but the pacing... I don't know, it just feels off, like bits could have been trimmed here and there to streamline it. Still a good movie overall though.
429. Blackball (2003) – British comedy about the sport of crown green bowling, I remember going to see this on cinema on original release, but I really didn't remember much about it other then the cast which includes James Cromwell and Vince Vaughn in a very-Vince Vaughn performance, there is some funny moments and was a decent way to pass 90 or so minutes (believe this was released in America under the National Lampoon's name).
430. While You Were Sleeping (1995) – seems like with romcoms I'm utterly charmed or indifferent and there is no middle ground. This thankfully falls into the first category for me. Sandra Bullock gives a really likable lead even if we are forced a little bit to buy into the film's premise, one of the better rom coms of the 90s imo.
431. Prostitute (1980) – the film felt so naturalistic at times, you could have thought you was watching some sort of documentary. Which means the film feels rough around the edges which entirely works in the films favour. Overall a very good film that taught me much about the laws in the UK at the time.

138. Brain Twisters *DVD* A decent thriller movie about a scientist/teacher who manipulates some of his students minds via some brain experiment-thing (that they’ve volunteered for) that causes them to enter a trance state at specific times and become killers. Sadly it’s pretty much G-rated but the early 1990’s effects are a nice change of scenery for me.

I totally understand why this is a masterpiece. I liked it more my second time around. It delivers in spades in terms of satisfaction, great acting, quality action, and big time drama. However, it does drag on for too long and there's a subplot or two that I just couldn't care about. [****]
