432. Three Wishes (1995) – fantasy/drama starring Patrick Swayze and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, that really did nothing for me, it wasn't bad per say, just didn't have enough substance to engage me, though there was some moments.
433. The Ninth Configuration (1980) – starts a bit like a comedy before starting to get that bit more psychological (still some moments of dark comedy). Also found it a respectful view of mental illness. A pretty unique film that I found really good
434. Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga (2020) – I thought there was enough funny moments here (and a step up from the more recent Will Ferrell comedies) but I don't think it should have clocked in at over 2 hours. Rachel McAdams was the stand out here.
435. When Marnie Was There (2014) – Another great movie from Studio Ghibli who have had so few misfires. It's also another of there films with engaging characters and a story.

#178 - The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King *Vudu I totally understand why this is a masterpiece. I liked it more my second time around. It delivers in spades in terms of satisfaction, great acting, quality action, and big time drama. However, it does drag on for too long and there's a subplot or two that I just couldn't care about. [****] There were so many moments they could have ended it. Ending it as the books ended was fine but I’d have loved the final shot to have been Frodo and Sam sitting on the rock as the lava flowed around them just after destroying the Ring.

429. Blackball (2003) – British comedy about the sport of crown green bowling, I remember going to see this on cinema on original release, but I really didn't remember much about it other then the cast which includes James Cromwell and Vince Vaughn in a very-Vince Vaughn performance, there is some funny moments and was a decent way to pass 90 or so minutes (believe this was released in America under the National Lampoon's name). It was released in the states as a National Lampoon movie. Gotta buddy that is trying to collect every National Lampoon film. Saw the dvd in her collection.

![](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/d/d9/StepbrothersMP08.jpg) 139. Step Brothers *Netflix* Probably the stupidest movie ever made. But sadly not quite as hilarious as I remember it being. It has its moments but it hasn’t aged as well as Borat or National Lampoons Vacation.

#179 - Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
*Disney+
It's hard to live up to the lofty expectations that Guardians of the Galaxy, but they took this sequel and mostly gave us more of what we wanted. Several jokes misfire and someone like Drax feels a bit underutilized this go around. However, the emotional impact is significant, the character development is strong, there's a great villain, the visuals are gorgeous, and the action works. Each time I've watched it, I feel like it has gotten better. [****]

32. It - Chapter 1
A solid remake. The Losers were well cast and did a good job. Henry Bowers and Beverly’s dad were delightfully menacing. Saarsgard is no Tim Curry but he does a passable job as Pennywise. Looking forward to Chapter 2.

116. Doug's 1st Movie - Watched this on Disney+. So recently, I started to watch Disney's Doug on Disney+, of which I remember seeing some episodes back in the day (though I was more into the Nick version), as well as watched episodes of the original Nickelodeon version on Hulu. It led me to watching this, as I remember seeing TV spots for it way back when. So I decided to see this finally. Now that I saw it, I really don't know what to think of it. Yes, I can see that some bits were mainly for kids and that I shouldn't really over-analyze the plot. The story was...I don't know, definitely something that doesn't fully work. I don't mind the whole bit involving the monster, then moving into the part about pollution. Then you have the plot with Roger, which served no bearing to the main plot at all. I will say that, like other movies based on cartoons, the animation looked decent when it made the transition from TV to film. I would be lying if I said that I loved the film, but I didn't hate it either.
One other thing. I have a theory about this film. I know that Doug wasn't as popular as, say, Rugrats, at least during its run on Nick. But the show was popular enough that it got a revival. I didn't think that Doug was that popular to warrant a movie in theaters. Straight-to-video, maybe, but theaters? Here's where my theory comes in: Being that The Rugrats Movie was released four months before it, I could only guess that when the Rugrats film was in production, Disney caught wind of it and decided to maybe release the Doug film in theaters, probably to see if they could spite or one-up them. After all, Doug was originally a Nick property (Technically it still is, but that's only for their incarnation, whereas Disney still has the rights to the episodes of their version). But that's just me.
*ETA: Wait, scratch that. I was only half right about the last part. It seemed that the Doug movie was originally intended to be a straight-to-video release. But because The Rugrats Movie was a big hit, it seemed that Disney made a last-minute decision to release it in theaters to see if it could make that kind of money.

![](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/1/1d/The_Shining_%281980%29_U.K._release_poster_-_The_tide_of_terror_that_swept_America_IS_HERE.jpg) 140. The Shining *bluray* I’ve never seen this. Partially because I was never prepared for horror movies until recently and partially because I’m not the biggest Kubrick fan. But here we are and I’m glad I did. Jack Nicholson is so damn good in this but he doesn’t entirely steal the show since Shelley Duvall and Scatman Cruthers are both so good too. Everything works and it’s truly a masterpiece.

131. Little Big League (1994)132. Addams Family Values (1993) 133. Dark City (1998) 134. Pixel Perfect (2004)I have been really slacking in my Weird and Obscure Disney+ lately. I apologize for that. I know for some of you reading my reviews of forgotten Disney movies is the only reason you get up and turn on the internet in the morning. So here's the story. Geeky computer genius boy has a crush on his best friend, a girl in a band. Said band needs a new lead singer, so using cutting-edge computer technology he stole from his Dad, said boy makes a holographic lead singer. I know what you're thinking, "wait, is this Jem and Holograms?". No it isn't. As the movie continues, the hologram, Loretta, grows increasingly frustrated with the limitations of her existence, the girl grows increasingly jealous that she has to play second fiddle to a computer program, and the boy grows increasingly obsessed with making Loretta "perfect" to the detriment of his relationship with the girl. In the end the girl has an accident and goes into a coma so the hologram enters the girls mind through a magic EEG machine and saves her. In the process the hologram gets to feel what its like to be a real girl for a couple of minutes before she de-compiles or something and the girl gets her body back. Then the band continues on with Loretta now some kind of computer ghost acting as their guardian angel. This is a solid and inoffensive movie that I'm sure a tween girl would enjoy. And that Jem movie wishes it was this good. The type of pop music performances it seems to favor (heavily gymnastic/Britney Spears-esque dancing) seems pretty outdated even for 2004, but since the movie had elements that seemed to be a refutation of that type of music, I'll let it slide. But what makes this worth checking out though is about 2/3rds of the way through, Loretta uploads herself to the internet. What follows is what I can only call and insane and very trippy cyber-dream sequence that felt like you were watching Ralph Breaks the Internet on hallucinogenics. 135. A Boy Named Charlie Brown (1969)Latest arrival from Netflix. This is more or less your basic melancholic early Charlie Brown special, just stretched out to 90 minutes and heavily padded. It's pretty good for what it is, and if you grew up with those specials then I could see you enjoying it. But man, I can't possibly imagine a modern kid being able to get into these old Charlie Brown cartoons.

As always, Joseph Gordon-Levitt delivers a great performance. The film is a good thriller with some tense moments about a plane hijacking. However, it never quite takes things to that next level and feels like unfulfilled potential. [***]

117. The Rugrats Movie - Watched this on Netflix. After watching Doug's 1st Movie recently, I decided to check out the Rugrats movies, which means the Paris one is next, as well as Rugrats Go Wild (though I think it'd be best if I watched the Wild Thornberrys Movie first, as I know that Rugrats Go Wild was a crossover film). I guess I might even do that Hey Arnold movie while I'm at it, or even the 2004 Spongebob movie (with that David Hasselhoff cameo).
Anyway, on with this one. I will note that I had only seen bits and pieces of it, but I had never actually watched it from start to finish until tonight. This movie, how I put it, is what it is. This definitely felt like an actual film, unlike that Doug movie I watched. I will note that some parts hit the feels a bit, like that one bit with Tommy and Dil. There was also some humor with the stuff involving Stu using a past invention and the adventure element was actually fun, even though in the show the babies didn't get into anything that heavy. Not sure what to say about some musical bits, but this movie worked for what it was trying to do. Also, for its time, the animation, especially some 3D backgrounds, actually looked pretty good. It's a harmless movie, even though for a kids movie, it did have some stuff that went past the radar. But I sort of enjoyed it.

134. Pixel Perfect (2004)135. A Boy Named Charlie Brown (1969) 136. King Kong (1933)Found this on TCM on Demand. And with this I can say I watched all three King Kong movies this year. So I've never seen this before. That said, the actual story isn't that different from the Peter Jackson version. What is different is how fast-paced this version is. Whereas the other two movies lean heavily into the drama, this is a high-speed, testosterone fueled, action packed thrill ride. If you wanted to do a proper remake of this nowadays it would star someone like Vin Diesel or Jason Statham and end with them driving a race car up the side of the World Trade Center and crashing it into Kong's face, with them jumping out and free-falling down, managing to grab Ann Darrow out of the air while they're doing this, right before the car explodes. It has some values dissonance to it, but it's actually a really fun movie and I recommend seeing it at least once in your life.

118. Rugrats in Paris: The Movie - Watched this on Netflix. Had myself a little triple feature, which I started with this, especially after watching its predecessor yesterday. Anyway, I got to say that I had a lot of fun with this one, even more than the first film. I loved the Godfather parody scenes. Susan Sarandon did a great job as the villain of the film, especially when she did the French accent (Remember, she did the voice of that ballet instructor in that Simpsons episode). Like the first film, there were some bits that hit the feels, especially when it mentioned Chuckie's mother. It's harmless fun, especially for the family. I think I found myself enjoying it because I used to watch the show a lot as a kid.
119. The Wild Thornberrys Movie - Watched this on Pluto TV. Because I knew that Rugrats Go Wild was the third Rugrats film, I remembered that it was a crossover with the Wild Thornberrys. However, I had never seen this one before, so I decided to watch it first. First off, I will note that I wasn't that big of a fan of the Wild Thornberrys. Not so much that I didn't like the show, but because when it first started, my relationship with Nickelodeon was kind of more that I would watch it here and there but not a lot (I might have been getting too old or something), but I do recall watching some episodes at times and knew of some of the characters. Anyway, I got to say that this was indeed a fun film for the family. Some parts surprised me, like the bit with Eliza at the boarding school, and others didn't, like the revelation of the villains.
I do remember that when I saw a TV spot or trailer for this way back when, it kind of surprised me because I did not realize that this show was popular enough to warrant a movie, particularly one in theaters. Then again, the Hey Arnold movie came out that same year, if I recall. But this one had the kind of animation that the Rugrats movies did. After all, this was a Klasky/Csupo show and they probably had the same animation studio that did the Rugrats films to do it. Which brings me to...
120. Rugrats Go Wild - Watched this on Netflix. While I will say that the previous Rugrats films were better, as was the Wild Thornberrys movie, this one definitely had its charm. Sure, it could have done without some of the crude humor, but it was definitely passable. Even when I heard about this movie at the time of its release, I wondered how it would even work. But then again, out of all the Klasky/Csupo shows from that time, these were probably the only ones that could work in terms of a crossover (I highly doubt a crossover of As Told By Ginger and Rocket Power would even work; Rocket Power and Wild Thornberrys could work possibly). And surprisingly, it did work. I liked the bits with Chuckie and Donnie, as well as Angelica and Debbie. Plus, Tim Curry is always a treat even when he does voice-acting. I know some people knocked this one, but I certainly had fun with it.

![](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/2/20/The_Devil%27s_Hand.jpg) 141. The Devil’s Hand *DVD* A little too old for my liking (1961) but it was included on this 12 movie grindhouse set I’ve been watching a lot of the last few weeks that’s pretty much all movies by some company called “Crown International”, who went out of business in 1992. So I watched it anyway. But it failed to hold my attention from the get-go.
