This is a movie that completely hits every beat you'd expect from the "tough guy who has his heart warmed by a kid" genre. However, it's really a lot of fun, mostly because Bautista is super charismatic. He and Coleman play very well off each other and they raise this up to something really enjoyable. [***½]

137. Sonic the Hedgehog (2020) 138. The Maltese Falcon (1941)Another old classic I've never seen before I found on TCM on Demand. Fun movie, very of its time. The biggest surprise to me was how dapper Sam Spade was. I was expecting a more rough and tumble figure, with a ruffled trenchcoat and constant Five O'Clock Shadow. 139. Father of the Bride (1991)Found this on TBS on Demand, haven't seen it since I was a kid. Just a cute, sweet movie, nothing to complain about. Although I will point out that after pulling out the old inflation calculator, this wedding cost the Father something around $300,000 in 2020 money. Maybe he had a right to complain? I believe the original 1950 version is on TCM on Demand. Maybe I'll check that out. 140. Father of the Bride Part II (1995)Also on TBS on Demand, never seen this one before actually. It's a step down from the original, but still a sweet, cute movie with no complaints.

#182 - Scoob!
*HBO Max
I didn't love how they split up the team for a good chunk of the movie. That being said, there's enough to like here. It pays homage to the cartoon I grew up loving, the characters are fun, there's solid voice acting, and the animation is sweet. [***]

142. Stanley *DVD* I don’t know why this was on the Gorehouse Collection? It’s a movie you’d see at 2pm on a weekday on basic cable. All about a guy and his snakes. But he does put a floral hat on his one female snake that’s expecting and talks with his snakes like you and I would our cat or dog, so that’s sweet. Then some coked-up hippie kills her and the babies and you’ll actually be pissed at the bastard.

#183 - The Truman Show
*DVD
Over two decades later and this movie still holds up really well. Jim Carrey and the rest of the cast are great. It has funny moments, some really heartwarming stuff, and most importantly, there's intrigue around every corner. It's one of the best films of the '90s. [****½]

There were some decent ideas in here and Camila Mendes is a solid lead. However, this ultimately just felt like a Lifetime movie with a Netflix budget. Cheesy moments, expected tropes, and painfully obvious twists. [**]

143. Terror *DVD* A surprisingly good British version of Susperia. Some decent gore effects and pretty good acting (save the priest at the beginning). The only thing that threw me was the stripper in the one scene that looked like Marilyn Manson with short blonde hair.

#185 - Spider-Man: Homecoming
*Blu-Ray
This is the best live action Spider-Man movie made up to that point (Far From Home might be better). Even more than that, it is one of the best entries in the MCU. The entire cast does a great job, with Keaton and Holland shining brightest. The set pieces are fantastic, especially at the Washington Monument and the Staten Island Ferry. There’s great music and comedy. It’s just an all-around fun movie with the added bonus of giving us a perfect Peter Parker who gets a stellar character arc. [****½]

137. Sonic the Hedgehog (2020) 138. The Maltese Falcon (1941)139. Father of the Bride (1991)140. Father of the Bride Part II (1995) 141. Pokemon Detective Pikachu (2019)Latest arrival from Netflix. Not quite as good as I was hoping for from the trailers, but still an awesome, fun movie. Definitely recommended. 142. 'Twas the Night (2001)So it's July, and that can only mean one thing - the traditional, First Annual Weird and Obscure Disney+ Christmas in July Spectacular!!! I've decided to start the Spectacular off with this Disney Channel Original Movie, starring Bryan Cranston in what I think we can all agree was the peak of his career and everything he's done since has just been a shallow attempt to recapture the magic of this movie. Cranston plays three kids loser Uncle Nick, who's house he goes to hide out in during Christmas to avoid some people who he scammed out of money. Then the real Santa shows up, and after accidentally knocking him unconscious, Nick and the oldest kid decide to steal his sleigh and Santa tech, ostensibly to save Christmas. While the kid wants to use it all to actually help people, Nick just wants to use it to rob everybody blind. Meanwhile, the now conscious Santa teams up with the younger two kids to create a powerful computer rig in an attempt to hijack the sleigh and retrieve it. The sleigh hijacking doesn't work, but when the oldest kid realizes what Uncle Nick is doing, they have a falling out and the kid returns the sleigh. Meanwhile the people who Nick stole the money from track him to the kids house and threaten violence, but Nick shows up at the last minute to save the day, apologize to everyone, redeem himself and save Christmas. The End. Nothing mind-blowing, but a fun enough family Christmas movie.

144. The Madmen of Mandoras/They Saved Hitlers Brain *DVD* I only watched this because the tag line read “ Hitler's brain is saved by Nazi madmen, and is giving orders on a small tropical island!”. How could I not want to at least see what was up with this one? And it was the last of the twelve movies on the Gorehouse Classics set I’ve been watching the last few weeks. It was pretty bad on all fronts but especially the acting. There were some bad actors in this one. But I endured it to see what was going on with (as I later read) Hitlers head preserved in a jar. Which didn’t show up until more than halfway through the movie. So, of the twelve movies on the Gorehouse Classics set (Blood of Dracula's Castle, Blood Mania, Brain Twisters, The Devil's Hand, The Madmen of Mandoras, Nightmare in Wax, Prime Evil, Satan's Slave, Stanley, Terrorized!, Terror and Trip with the Teacher) a few of them were actually not bad. I’d recommend Blood of Dracula’s Castle, Terrorized, Terror and Trip with the Teacher. I think there were a few others in there that I liked but I can barely remember even watching them. This set is dirt cheap everywhere I see it so you can’t go wrong.

138. The Maltese Falcon (1941)139. Father of the Bride (1991)140. Father of the Bride Part II (1995) 141. Pokemon Detective Pikachu (2019)142. 'Twas the Night (2001) 143. The Harlem Globetrotters on Gilligan's Island (1981)This is, of course, considered by most film historians to be the greatest motion picture in the history of humanity. I'm not sure how any of my feeble and amateurish observations can add anything to that legacy, so I will just leave it at that.

33. It - Chapter 2
A decent conclusion to the story. There were a couple of good Easter eggs (Steven King cameo, The Thing shoutout, mocking Steven King’s writing). Why did they introduce Audra and Beverly’s husband and then never mention them again? And that whole “Richie is gay” twist had no support from anything else that had happened in the story.

121. Hackers (1995) - Watched this on HBO Go. I had heard a lot about this movie in my day. I will admit that for a long time I got this confused with Strange Days as they came out around the same time and also have developed cult status throughout the years (Funny, I watched Strange Days somewhere around this time last year, but I think it was August; I think I'll watch it again soon), not to mention that they both involved technology. Anyway, this movie was totally 90s. Not just with the soundtrack or fashions, but some of the computer effects don't really hold up but look good for its time. Angelina Jolie and Jonny Lee Miller had decent chemistry, even though I knew that they would hook up at the end. Fisher Stevens was a good antagonist. It's funny though, because I looked up how hacking really works, and really, hacking in movies looks more interesting than it seems in real life.
122. Independence Day - Watched this on Blu Ray. I had decided to have a double feature of this and the sequel, as today is Independence Day. Anyway, it had been about four years since I watched this, when the last time I watched it was in theaters as part of the double feature when the sequel came out. But this time, I watched the extended version, which added some additional scenes that I felt that could have been in the film. One example being that Randy Quaid brings his kids to Area 51 and requests medical attention for his son. Some of the extra scenes added more to the film, a few others didn't. But aside from that, watching it on Blu Ray, I could say that some visual effects haven't aged all too well (for example, the scene with the dog coming into that room in the tunnel), especially since this is a movie that came out in 1996. But it's still a fun film.
123. Independence Day: Resurgence - Watched this on Blu Ray. Okay, this is the first time I have watched it all the way through since seeing it in theaters, and I own this movie (I bought a special collector's edition that was sold at Target with a special casing with a book). Okay, I know that this movie was panned a lot when it came out. I am not going to pretend that this movie didn't have problems. Too many characters with their own subplots, cringey dialogue, some dodgy visual effects, etc. Plus, I felt that the bits with those kids were this film's version of what Randy Quaid and his kids were. Also, the whole conflict with Liam Hemsworth and Jesse T. Usher could have been removed from the film and it wouldn't have made a difference. There were issues with this film, but that didn't mean that I didn't enjoy some of the action scenes, especially the big climax. So while I do acknowledge the issues with this film, I don't hate it. In fact, I can still kind of have fun with some bits.
