#204 - Insomnia
*HBO Max
A very good film that told a unique story within the genre. Al Pacino is really good as the lead, Robin Williams does solid work as the villain, and Christopher Nolan delivers again. [***½]

165. Found *DVD* I had to watch this again. And I don’t care that it cost me $40 I had to buy the Headless DVD off the directors official site. It’s a great coming of age story mixed with absolutely insane violence and psychotic horror. This earns a place to be mentioned alongside Cannibal Holocaust, Last House on the Left and whatever other defining horror movies you can think of.

134. Jem and the Holograms - Watched this on Netflix. Okay, this is not going to be a short review. What led me to watching this was the thread on Jem, as it got me to revisit the cartoon and also the movie, which I will admit seeing in theaters when it came out and not liking it. However, I had an itch to watch it recently, so I thought "why not?"
This movie sort of grew on me, but that's not to say that I don't see its issues, nor does it say that I like or love the film. On the positive side, I will say that I liked the songs, even though some of them were typical pop fluff, but Aubrey Peeples, who played Jerrica/Jem, did her own singing and has a good voice. I liked the makeup job that was done on the four girls. Also, the acting performances were actually pretty good, especially Juliette Lewis as Erica Raymond (Yes, I know it was a gender-swap, but she wasn't bad in her role). Plus, I liked the stinger at the end with The Misfits.
As for the cons, the story was a cookie-cutter plot involving someone's rise to fame with no real build to it. There was even the subplot about going solo and the rest of the band being pissed about it until the inevitable scene where they all get back together. Let's not forget to overabundance of YouTube and Instagram videos that were likely not done for this movie. Hell, I still remember that video of some guy having the cartoon on in the background! Not to mention that it was a very loose adaptation of the cartoon, which I am glad that I watched before seeing the movie five years ago.
All I can say is that I don't love this movie, but I don't hate it. I don't think it's bad to waste a few hours if you have nothing to do, but if you're looking for an adaptation of the cartoon, you're not going to find it here. If anything, I would just read the comics, which are good.

156. Crocodile Dundee II (1988)157. Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982) 158. The Christmas Star (1986) 159. Howard the Duck (1986)Technically a latest arrival from Netflix, although I've been sitting on it for like two weeks. I've never seen this before, but I'm well aware of its reputation and was curious. I gotta stop being curious. This was horrible. None of the jokes were funny, the characters were stupid, the story was stupid, and worst of all Howard never once felt like anything more then a guy in a bad costume. The only positive in this whole thing was that Lea Thompson was really hot.

#205 - All Summers End
*Prime
From a plot perspective, it didn't do all that much that felt unique or different. That being said, it's still a good story that kept me engaged. It helps that Kaitlyn Dever is phenomenal and shows once again why she's one of the best young actors around. Tye Sheridan is also very good and they carry this thing. [***]

166. Reanimator *bluray* This is one that I’ve wanted to see for a long time; ever since the death metal band Carcass used its imagery in their reunion posters ten or fifteen years ago. It’s a lot more comedic than I expected and took quite a while to get to the zombies but even leading up to that it was really entertaining. It took a crazy turn towards the end and went into early Peter Jackson territory. The gore factor was pretty high. I’d put it in the same boat as Frankenhooker; but it’s nowhere near as incredible as that movie.

#206 - The Night Clerk
*Netflix
Considering the performances by Tye Sheridan and Ana de Armas, I really wanted to like this more. It has an interesting premise and the aforementioned solid acting. However, the plot moves at a snail's pace and doesn't ever really get all that interesting. I was into the protagonist and found him intriguing but the plot didn't do much for me. [**½]

167. Blood Feast 2: All U Can Eat *DVD* This movie was too funny. The original was inadvertently hilarious and bad so for the sequel (almost forty years later) they dialed everything up to “11” and camped it up. And of all the gory movies I watch it’s probably the goriest. Wicked soundtrack too. The perfect sequel. Added note: the guy playing Ramses III is basically Broken Matt Hardy, fifteen years before that character was a thing.

#207 - Avengers: Infinity War
*Disney+
This was more ambitious than all the prior superhero movies. For the most part, this was very well done. They paired people together in great fashion, the action was great, and there plenty of memorable moments. Everything involving Thanos was nearly perfect. He felt like a massive threat at every turn, while also getting enough development to feel like a real character. This is an epic that is one of the best comic book movies ever. It’s the best “part one” I’ve ever seen with one of the most heart-wrenching endings ever. [*****]

158. The Christmas Star (1986) 159. Howard the Duck (1986) 160. Richie Rich's Christmas Wish (1998)And the Traditional, First Annual Weird and Obscure Disney+ Christmas in July Spectacular!!! concludes with this timeless holiday classic. Hey, remember that mid-90's live-action Richie Rich movie starring Macaulay Culkin? Yeah, me neither. But it existed, and here's its direct to video sequel that somehow Disney has the rights to despite the fact that I could swear the original movie was made by Warner Bros. Oh, and Macaulay Culkin isn't in this, as Richie has been recast. Actually, if I'm correct everybody's been recast, so whatever. It's Christmas Eve, and after Richie Rich is unfairly blamed for ruining the Christmas of a bunch of orphans, he decides to wish he was never born on a Dinosaur powered washing machine. It makes sense in context. Richie awakens in this new universe where he never existed and discovers that his place in the timeline has been taken by his evil rival Reggie, the town on the verge of financial collapse and Richie himself wanted by the police (something Richie probably could've avoided if he didn't insist on taking Dollar from Reggie). So now he has to scour the town to find his friends, his butler and Jim's Dad, convince them he's telling the truth, and rebuild the washing machine and put right that once went wrong. So whatever you'd expect from a late-90's live-action direct-to-video Richie Rich family movie to be like, this is exactly it. No more, no less. Including really bad snow effects. Personally I prefer the Richie Rich Netflix show with the Sexbot.

40. Invisible Man
A little slow at the beginning but once it got going it was quite entertaining. Despite some easily guessed plot twists and a super-genius villain who makes some REALLY stupid mistakes, I enjoyed this movie a lot.

168. Bride of Reanimator *youtube* As far as sequels go this one isn’t bad at all. What I really liked about watching it is I’ve been spending a lot of time (and effort) trying to figure out the movies this band called Last Days of Humanity sampled and I learned that they sampled this movie a lot on their one split album. So I solved something that has been irking me for some time now. The movie itself is a fine continuation.
