336. House *Amazon Prime* I have some trailers of this on some other DVDs and they made this seem a lot scarier than it was. It was an entertaining haunted house “am I crazy” movie but nothing insane. At all. And I’m insane. I need insanity.

603. Palm Springs (2020) – I was kind of glad I knew nothing about this before watching other then it starred Andy Samberg and was from the Lonely Island gang, so when the plot kicked in I was pleasantly surprised. Samberg and Cristin Milioti – one of the few redeeming things about the last seasobn of How I Met Your Mother – have great chemistry and J.K. Simmons as always was great. I liked this.(***)
604. Freaky (2020) – Freaky Friday if it was a slasher movie (and also a lost opportunity for a Jamie Lee Curtis cameo if there ever was one) is a lot of fun, some cool death scenes and Kathryn Newton and Vince Vaughn playing the body swap well. (**1/2)
Two good choices for films today.

Riddick (2013) After a couple of weeks of a break, I continued with this film series. This movie was much better than The Chronicles of Riddick as they kept it simple and more like the first film. It's not a great movie, but it's pretty good.

202. Let's Meet Again on Christmas Eve - Watched this through DVR. This was a Lifetime Christmas movie. Like many holiday TV movies (or TV movies in general), it's pretty predictable, but I found myself enjoying it. One thing of note is that Kyla Pratt was in this (She was also in another that I have set to record soon) and I have always thought she was attractive since "One on One." Of course, what really stood out was the chemistry she had with Brooks Darnel and I liked how this story talked about the history between the two leads. One thing that really got me was a weird revelation regarding one character. While I suspected it was the case, but then there was talk about familial connection to other characters. As for anything else, well, this even had fantasy written all over it. But other than that, it's a cute little fluffy holiday flick. I can't complain.
203. Last Vermont Christmas - Watched this through DVR. This was a Hallmark Christmas movie. Okay, from here on in, because I am likely to cover more Christmas TV movies, I am likely to touch on what I thought of them because they all have predictable plots. However, the end of the movie had a surprise twist that I did not expect. While some elements seemed predictable, it seemed that I was only partially right. As for anything else, the chemistry between the characters was great as they all gave a vibe that felt like they were a family. Not a bad way to pass an hour and a half (excluding commercials).

#349 - She Dies Tomorrow
*Hulu
There are some decent performances in here and a pretty unique premise but it's ultimately a slog to get through. It's really boring and drags despite being under 90 minutes. [*½]

76. Little Nicky
Not the best Adam Sandler movie, but it has a great soundtrack and some incredible cameos.

605. Offerings (1989) – it's a fine line between inspired by and rip-off and as far as slasher movies inspired by Halloween goes this is the closest to a rip-off there is, even down to similar shots and the musical score. However it as it's charm and some nice death scenes, I watched a really nice print and it's another one of those films that doesn't deserve it.
606. The Nights Before Christmas – firstly I no idea I was watching a sequel, but I didn't need to see that to be able to follow this, this actually wasn't a too bad entry into the killer-Santa Claus sub-genre though it's tone is all over the place, it should have leaned into being more absurd, Mrs. Claus is basically a Harley Quinn rip-off though.
1. Scrooge (1935)
2. Anna and the Apocalypse
3. The Nights Before Christmas
4. Noelle
5. My Christmas Inn
6. Godmothered
7. Last Christmas
8. Surviving Christmas
9. Merry In Laws
10. Christmas With The Kranks

(need to go back in the thread and find my list, so I can start numbering these things again)
Dredd (2012) I never cared to see this movie back when it was released and never really heard much of it. Just on a whim I decided to watch it today. It was surprisingly good. Did not realize until I saw the credits that Alex Garland wrote the screenplay. Had I known, I would have checked it out a lot sooner.

#350 - The Lego Star Wars Special
*Disney+
It rushes through a bit of the call backs, so this may have worked better if it was an hour or so. That said, it's still a lot of fun for fans of the series. [***]

77. Disney’s A Christmas Carol
The CGI animated one starring Jim Carrey. The backgrounds are beautiful. The characters are creepy (those dead eyes) and a bit annoying. The dialogue sounds like it was lifted straight from Dickens but then suddenly there are action scenes that alternate between slapstick and horror. There are a lot of better versions of this story out there.

204. Catch a Christmas Star - Watched it through DVR. Yes, this is another Hallmark Christmas movie. Okay, so with its budget, it was expected that certain visuals, such as green screen effects would look a bit dodgy. Shannon Elizabeth (yes, you read that right) plays a pop singer who has a history with the male lead, played by Steve Byers. Of course, we know what will happen in the end. I did notice that Shannon Elizabeth sang in this movie and according to some sources, she actually sang. She didn't sound bad, but I think it would have been better if a singer/actress played the role. Though I will say that the leads had good chemistry. I didn't mind the film. It was enjoyable and I am a sucker for these types of films.
205. Time for Me to Come Home for Christmas - Watched it through DVR. I'm not going to lie, this movie reminded me of a Christmas TV movie that I watched last year. I think it was called "The Road Home for Christmas." Anyway, this movie does involve a singer as well, except I recognize the lead actor and he is also a singer, so it seemed that the singing in this movie was genuine. I actually enjoyed this movie a lot. Yes, it was a plot involving trying to get home in time for Christmas and also coming across some stuff along the way. I did enjoy this better than the previous film, but that's not to say that I didn't enjoy "Catch a Christmas Star" if that review didn't already state it.

337. Conquest *Amazon Prime* Sword and Sorcery done by Lucio Fulci!? I’ve never bothered with this non-horror work before but this was actually pretty good. It doesn’t have much in the way of a story but it does have his trademark gory violence. His style of violence does a lot for this style of movie. Some of the costumes were pretty cool (the werewolf men, except when ones mask clearly falls off) and what money they spent on those was offset by not buying tops for any of the female characters. The music was cool too. I’m glad I watched it.

607. Madhouse (1981) – I didn't find this too bad, some of the acting wasn't great even by b-level horror standards, but there is some good effects and one surprising effective emotional moment. Don't think you are missing out by not seeing this though. 608. Christmas With The Coopers (2015) – I was more then disappointed spending Christmas with the Kranks, so let's see how I handle it with the Coopers. The family have there own stories before coming together at the end, some stories are better then others (Amanda Seyfried and Alan Arkin's is the best) and none are down right bad, it's just it doesn't together and reaches the heights it aspires to be. Third film I've seen lately with June Squibb in. The reveal at the end didn't impress me much though. Christmas Films I've seen for the first time order of preference (Films Ive watched in December only {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{)}
1. Scrooge (1935) 2. Anna and the Apocalypse 3. Christmas With The Coopers 4. The Nights Before Christmas 5. Noelle 6. My Christmas Inn 7. Godmothered 8. Last Christmas 9. Surviving Christmas 10. Merry In Laws 11. Christmas With The Kranks

609. Women's Prison Massacre (1983) – “I'd like to bite your nipples off... and I'll do it”, with lines like that it should have won the best original screenplay Oscar. Obviously it's a women in prison movie, which is just all over the place and the plot (what a little of it) doesn't make sense. Admittedly this as a sleazy charm that obviously can't live up to it's title. (Note: I'm not sure if this was meant to be an Emmanuelle movie since Laura Gemser played Emmanuelle and it's the name of her character here, maybe they just thought it was easier to call her that)
610. Mugsy's Girls (1984) – a sorority house Mother enters her girls into a mud wrestling competition, the plot is as simple as that, it's a comedy but it's more stupid then funny which ends up giving it some charm. Ruth Gordon in one of her last roles is the House Mother, and we also get a character called Jack Enoff (which was also one of the last roles for the actor Steven Brodie), so it's possible Vince Russo wrote some of this. There is plenty of better comedies from the 80s out there but not a horrible way to spend 90 minutes.
Maybe I'm in a good mood today because it's possible I will look back and think I was too kind to both of these films.

The love story itself wasn't great but the chemistry between Stanfield and Rae was enough to carry this over the top and make it quite enjoyable. [***]

338. Rika: Zombie Killer *DVD* This was actually really good. Zombies. Nothing out of the ordinary. But of all the eastern Asian horror movies I’ve watched the last few months it may have been the best overall. It had me laughing, it had some decent gore, the story was good AND...boobs. Some of the others had one or two of those but lacked in the others. The only weird thing was the Japanese audio track was very poorly mixed.

611. Target For Rage (aka Detetion: The Siege at Johnson High / Hostage High) (1997) – I remember seeing this TV movie in the late 90s and randomly last night I thought of the movie and I checked Amazon Prime first and luckily it was there. It's still a decent movie about a school shooter and... without going into specifics, even two years later the character wouldn't have been shown in as sympathetic light as he is here, there is some great tension, and Ricky Schroeder, Freddie Prinze Jr. and Henry Winkler fill there roles well. 612. Santa Who? (2000) – Santa falls and gets amnesia, I have to say I found this sweet and enjoyable even it's feels like nothing original, Leslie Nielsen makes a great Santa Claus and the growth of a selfish character felt pretty natural. Not going to say it belongs in a list of Christmas classics but it's worth a watch. Christmas Films I've seen for the first time order of preference (Films I've watched in December only) {Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW}1. Scrooge (1935) 2. Anna and the Apocalypse 3. Christmas With The Coopers 4. The Nights Before Christmas 5. Santa Who? 6. Noelle 7. My Christmas Inn 8. Godmothered 9. Last Christmas 10. Surviving Christmas 11. Merry In Laws 12. Christmas With The Kranks

This manages to kind of dumb down the story it's based on but it still handles things with care. Clint Eastwood makes sure the plot moves along nicely and gets really good performances out of everyone. [****]
