I was just rewatching highlight videos of old Lucha Underground episodes and, honestly, I think it might be my favourite wrestling promotion of all time, a lot of people say that the character work is more important than the in-ring work and Lucha Underground had both amazing characters and fantastic in-ring action.
It felt a lot like the original ECW only without as much sexism, homophobia and racism from the fans'. It's just a damn shame that LU had to end the way it did, I highly doubt that it's coming back and that's a shame, but I think some people would've said that it was starting to decline anyway?
Also, between Cage vs. Matanza, Mil Muertes vs. Matanza and other hosses, it had some of the best hoss battles that I've ever seen and I'll always appreciate a promotion that just lets their big lads hit each-other as hard as possible.

Trust me no one misses it more than I do...as if not obvious in my fitting LU into various discussions because if I see the oppurtunity damn right I will lol.
But to me I think to really appreciate it what it brought to the table for the industry you have to emerse yourself in it a bit as you cannot just watch it like any other typical wrestling show and criticize it in the same way because it is furthest from WWE , TNA , ROH etc which while it was on really did divide wrestling fans...because it brought to the forefront the debate on WHAT DO YOU WANT IN A WRESTLING SHOW? and other similar debates because it was an is unlike anything else ever in wrestling ever it embraced whole heartedly the TV side.
And speaking only for myself it is the perfect balance of what wrestling can and should be.....amazing in ring action , stellar writing and memorable characters that run the gauntlet...from your wrestlers wrestler to a literal time traveler whose best friend is a reincarnated Dragon who wields nunchakus.

I admit I've come up with an idea of how a fifth season would go if I was doing it. The Order, led by Antonio Cueto, would be holding shows in a new Temple with Jake Strong running roughshod for the most part. The heroes would be separated; Pentagon has disappeared, a feral Fenix is kept locked away by Melissa Santos, Son of Havoc has gone back to his biker gang and patrols the open road, Ivelisse is working as a bouncer, Johnny Mundo has buried himself in Hollywood to forget about Taya, and Aerostar and Dario would be in hiding. The season would revolve around Mil Muertes turning face and winning Aztec Warfare V (featuring Jon Moxley and Ultimo Dragon as surprise entrants), and Pentagon returning to get revenge on Hexagon Black for costing him the title, and culminate with Dario returning to lead a team against The Order at Ultima Lucha Cinco with Aerostar defeating Lord Barrett to save the Temple and Mil defeating Jake Strong to win the title.

My ending in short would have seen the tribes of course overcoming the gods but in good storytelling fashion leave them wanting more.
I would have The White Rabbit kill Barrett (something that was to be prevented in usual Aerostar vagueness he would tell this to Dario) and reveal that he and Taya(Rosa the doll) had a secret pact to overthrow the Order but as things had progressed too far for them to take action in the present timeline they would alter it to their complete benefit and as The White Rabbit himself already is a master of time ..even more so than AeroStar he understands most of the roadblocks to avoid in order to ensure he gets what he wants when he does manipulate time.
Thus season 6 would be The White Rabbit and Taya ruling both the temple and the new timeline they have created in their image....but of course such changes affect most but lets just say those born of Death never forget.

I miss the Taco Truck outside their shows!.. I won’t lie, I feel like it had it’s day in the sun. The impact will reverberate for some time and I wouldn’t mind something along the same vein (but with different subject matter to inspire from) some day. Do kinda wished they would of ended on a better note and not had so many issues behind-the-scenes. And for memories sake, that’s me on the far right in pigtails trying in vain to stop the madness

Do kinda wished they would of ended on a better note and not had so many issues behind-the-scenes. I myself never sadly got to go to the temple but atleast with the original location it was pretty much a party outside the temple all the time with everyone camping out and it being basically a tailgate party before every show , talents coming out to sell their merch(before they were made to stop for some reason) and mingingly with everyone ...when talents say there is nothing like it it was the time at the original temple in the giant parking lot and like u said the taco truck. I really hope the proposed documentary happens because I wanna know all the backstage drama that lead to it dieing even though I am aware of what is out there publicly but according to EVW there is big time backstage drama that is still yet to be revealed and cleatly would wanna let it all out. IDK how long an NDA in this circumstance runs that he is under but hopefully sooner than later. Same goes for Chris Roach who wants to tell all how the story would have ended. So the show may be gone but there is still stuff to come.

You tried to get in the middle of MIL AND JEREMIAH? YOU BRAVE BASTARD! lol
I have heard stories and it gets shown a bit on TV but Mil has no f***ing mercy on the audience...when he tells you to move and if you do not listen well lol
I remember the one story the producers told about when they did the show at south by southwest festival and Mil had a match and he told a section on the floor to move and one dumb bastard did not thinking it was just a show no way is he getting hurt.....Mil and I forget who he was wrestling just bowled this dumb shit over by throwing whoever right into him lol.

We all miss Lucha Underground. It was a shining beacon of hope during the nearly two-decade Dark Age of North American Pro Wrestling (following the dual collapses of WCW & ECW).

Before this match
The wrestling world:Who is Pentagon? and EW Vampiro sucks ass this match is gonna be trash
After the match
The wrestling world: CERO MIEDO!
IMO this is the best star making storyline this entire decade

My personal feelings on it are that overall I enjoyed it and season 1 is essential viewing, but I feel like it went progressively downhill from there. There were of course still really cool things, characters, some of the angles, but I feel like they went too far in on the gimmicky things like busting through ceilings and walls, cinderblocks, and things of that nature. By season 3(with papa Dario) I was done.
TL;DR it was cool and hugely influential but at the end of the day it turned into Wrestle society X with a better presentation/concept.
I will say that Mil Muertes and Catrina were amazing. Catrina, just goddamn, was she hot.

Papa Cueto was season 4 I cannot say I have those same views as far as the hardcore aspects went....Mil crashing Jeremiah through the door will never not be f***ing hilarious and awesome because well it is Mil doing what he does better than anyone else. Except for one time and it was a point of contention coming out of the 2nd ultima lucha that they just piled on the hardcore matches one after the other after the other...and it was not even the ammount but more so it was just back to back to back hardcore matches without something different to break it all up. But what I will absoloutley agree with you on is Catrina and Mil were perfect they had a chemistry that IMO looking back now no one could have done it better. Other women are trying to do the whole dark thing now....but Catrina/Karlee owned it

None of them gave a shit and I appreciated it cause it came off real, ya know? In a fight you’re not gonna give a f*** about other people so it added that extra layer of authenticity and I think it came off both in person and on the screen. During the last season (I forgot which match but think it involved Fenix? Or cage?) they came near our section and told us to move: Everyone did. Including me. But I was the only idiot that retreated to the opposite side while EVERYONE else ushered off towards the other side. So whoever it was gets thrown towards the chairs and me, and I’m trapped in the corner with the camera on us, so I just hastily and gingerly hopped on the few remaining upright chairs and accordingly f***ed off. And I had no idea they were trying to make a documentary. If they could make one, think they absolutely should. Something similar to “The Death of Superman Lives: What Happened?” would be neat.

I liked it a lot, but part of me feels like it served its purpose. It doesn't help that the long, ponderous crawl between seasons killed whatever momentum it may have had.
That's not even getting into the predatory contracts.
Still, though, it had some wonderful stuff. I'm personally very fond of Graver Consequences, the match between Mil Muertes and Matanza. May be the best example of two monster heels battling for supremacy that I've ever seen. The spot with the gauntlet and the casket lid, in particular, was wonderful.

Definetly gonna go find this match and hope it made it to TV I know Cage and Pentagon during their feud did alot of brawling by the bleachers. But yea that feeling that ANYTHING could happen in the temple really extended to the audience and they were not joking if you were in the way you were getting run the f*** over and it was your own damn fault and that authenticy for the live experience of LU is something else. I remember and I know it made it to TV when Matanza killed Azteca Jr throwing him into the abyss of the bleachers there is a moment before where he grabs a guy and just shoves him into the wall....that guy is a fellow wrestler by the name of Tye Matthews but he said he had no idea that Matanza was gonna just chuck him aside like that lol. And I am sure you know about this when she worked there I believe she was called Sparkles she was basically a sort of but not real lawyer but she worked in the TV side and works for Marvel now would come out before the show and read off what to expect...EXPECT SWEAT , SPIT AND BLOOD and other bodily fluids and then a BODILY FLUIDS chant would break out lol. And yea there is a very close knit group that pretty much the producers trusted to get any real legit news about the show out there and those guys are looking to inevitably get a documentary on the show out there ...one of those guys was responsible for getting Vanilla Ice to the temple.

Still the best wrestling show out there. Proper evolution of wrestling from sports with soap drama to star wars.

Season 4 wasn't great and the cracks were starting to show in places in season 3 but, overall, still my favourite wrestling show ever. Being a big fan of both wrestling and Robert Rodriguez movies, LU was basically perfect for me. Dario Cueto is the best character in wrestling, bar none, imo.
Fenix/Mil for the LU championship remains my favourite wrestling match as well.

I know one of the big issues that AEW apparently has is their lack of telling their audience who their wrestlers are and really fleshing out the characters but man did LU have no such issue pretty much from the get go you get so much info in these awesome short sweet vingettes.
And I am sure it was not planned due to how quick it took place but I love that Pentagons back story has him traveling to the far east to become a better fighter...and then few seasons later he crosses paths with the Black Lotus Triad sort of crazy how that works out for his origin.
And KillShots entire origin and his video..is just PERFECTO that argueably is the best origin story for any wrestling character.

Lots of startup wrestling companies, AEW included, talk about their desire to do something different. Lucha Underground might be the only one that actually did. LU was very clear that they were NOT a real sport or an athletic contest. Time travel, cursed relics, evil ancient gods, mind control, zombies, murder... LU was an intricately plotted science fiction series with the action scenes performed in front of a live audience.
And it was awesome.

And that is the key as to why believers praise it to the highs we do because it set out and accomplished what other companies only talk or make a half assed effort to try do and that is be different....those that rode with the show from beginning to end on a weekly basis can say they were apart of something the business may not see ever again or atleast in a very very long time.
