Getting my backlog down bit by bit and I’m currently on fallout 4 and man I was really enjoying it at first but I’m starting to get a tad annoyed. I knew about the “Another settlement needs your help” meme but holy s*** I didn’t realise each faction has several of these types of missions but pretty quickly I’ve gotten wise to recognising them as radiant quests early on and not doing several mission before I realise I’m wasting my time
I’m about 40 hours in (Dann addictive side missions) and realise I’ve yet to come to a point where I’m wondering when I’ll be forced to pick a side and go looking for the next minutemen quest only to find out that I need to do some of those stupid settlement missions before I can unlock the next quest for the faction I want to progress with in the story with absolutely no clue from the game.
That’s just sloppy storytelling IMO (Of course considering that the fallout 76 thread brings a new bit of hilarity every time it updates I suppose I should consider myself lucky)
I’m not a hardcore RPG guy at all and only really got into the genre with Fallout 3 when it went action RPG so I’m not a diehard in the sense that I’ve been there since the beginning but I genuinely love Fallout 3 and it did introduce me to the quasi RPG genre however the skill/perk system I liked at first but now I can see the issues fans have with it. Just feels so restrictive
Same with the dialogue. I mostly play these games as a goody too shoes but for those who want a nuanced and wide range of options for their character I can get the frustrations
Yeah so some of the high scores I saw for the game definitely seem BS. Like it’s not bad, I got it cheap and enjoy parts of it and will continue to play until I finish the main story but 7 out of 10. Maybe 7 and a half

It's a good game that just doesn't live up to the lofty expectations after Fallout New Vegas. The storytelling is definitely the weak point of the game, at least as far as the main plot goes.

My first game back when I bought an XBox One. Enjoyed it a lot, but unfortunately can’t weigh it against the last console generation.
More choices than the SNES, certainly.

Also like the goody two shoes comment. When I got GamePass and downloaded The Outer Worlds, my plan was to play the game as a complete evil asshole. Like, 20 minutes in I found myself taking it easy on NPCs.
I majored in Sociology, I should probably study this.

I thought it was a pretty awful RPG and Fallout game. It's basically just a FPS now since they cut out all of the dialogue options that New Vegas had. Then again I also thought that Fallout 3 was extremely mediocre also

Doesn’t reach the highs of New Vegas, but I’ll take a mediocre Bethesda game over most others.

Yeah, the dialogue sucks and so does the levelling up system, but I thought the gameplay was great.

One of the games I spent the most time with with well over 300 hours of gameplay. And I barely played any of the older Fallout games.

When it comes to Fallout 4, I can go on tangents about how problematic the DLC is, especially Nuka World with how it was only designed with "evil" players in mind. The base game, as it stands, has it's merits and flaws, but I typically blew up the Institute and told Father to eat shit.

Fallout 2 and New Vegas are probably the best games ever made. That doesn't mean rest aren't great, 'cause they really are. Dialogue and options in missions, perks, sneak attacks and stealing stuff has always been my favourite parts of these games. I'll usually go on mad streaks, like first helping people and then killing 'em. And then killing their relatives or companions. Year after year, they've given away the freedom to be "the bad guy" - but as said before - the gameplay was probably best it's ever been. There's hundreds of things to choose from, but these were first things that popped up into my mind in seconds: * The house in Diamond City which had bunch of cats in it. I left the lady live there with her carcasses! * Legendary Deathclaw which had horror elements with music and all, while you met it. * They should have done much more with Mayor Hancock, he was as freakin' great as Gob in Fallout 3! I hate minutemen and oh boy if all that settlement stuff was not a case of boredom. Also, I would have given up my ruined son up for adoption at the start of the game, if it was up to me. e: I'm gonna be trying the Nuka World soon, when I have time. That's the only DLC that I haven't played in whole series. Also, Fallout 76 in a year or two, if there's still servers running then.

Well I’m finished the main story and was underwhelmed by the story. The main story which started it (i.e. your son has been kidnapped and you are hunting for me) just seemed like an afterthought so why even bother with it to begin with I think I’m just annoyed because there was some cool stuff in it that could have made for a great storyline. I mean {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW}You had been refrozen for 60 years and now your son is older than you and is now in charge of the same people who stole him from you .....Holy s*** there is so much that could be done with this and the reveal should be treated as a holy s*** moment instead it’s just causally dropped in the middle of a random conversation. I get it’s to allow freedom in storyline but like I said, why bother at all then with a storyline like that and that tagged on happy ending I got after siding with the minutemen........just felt hollow as a result

I've owned it for years from having gotten it on the cheap but I've never actually gotten around to playing it. Really feel like buying it was probably a mistake because I really just have no patience at all for open world, "Feel free to do whatever," games; I can get the appeal but personally you give me absolute freedom and my response is probably going to be not to play.
I do appreciate the Wyatts shout out though.

Even the dialogue choices don't matter as much as they used to.

So I’m onto the far harbour dlc that I purchased a while back (Only DLC I picked up) and f*** this Best Left Forgotten puzzle stuff with the settlement mechanics.
Also, out of curiosity which companions did people go with? I’ve had Nick Valentine all the way since I met him

I switch between a bunch of companions because I like all of them (yes even Preston) and they all have their uses. Only one I don't use is the courser dude because f*** the institute.

I’ve had Nick Valentine all the way since I met him I had Piper for the longest time, because I liked cultivating a relationship with her and my player, but at a certain point I switched over to Nick because his storyline is pretty badass, and he is a lot handier to have around. Also love how he always freaks out when have the Mysterious Stranger perk and he shows up to help you out. I know that settlement management is a real pain, but I did have a lot of fun in the initial building of them, especially when I figured out the best ways to set your settlement up.

I spent so long collecting power cores for my suit so that I never had to worry about running out that I lost interest in finishing even the main story.
What I did play was crap anyway. Outer worlds was better.
