I wasn't even alive at the time and I know that moment where Ron Simmons hits one of the most impactful looking powerslams of all time on one of the best big men of all time and wins the WCW World Heavyweight Championship, making history and causing the fans to come unglued.
But, one thing that I couldn't help but notice was that Vader, after getting planted nearly through the goddamn canvas by Ron, after a gruelling main event match, just sprang back up to his feet, didn't even sell that he was hurt, he just popped right back up and started to yell at the ref. I get it, Vader was basically a mountain of beeef and bafflingly good moonsaults, but that just made me wonder if Vader had some personal problem with Ron, maybe Vader didn't want to put him over for whatever reason?
This is just shit that you expect from pre-born again Shawn Michaels or early 2000s Undertaker or any era of Hulk Hogan, but you don't expect Vader to pull that kind of stunt.

I doubt it was anything personal. At the very least, I've never heard anything about drama between the two of them, and if that hadn't been a planned spot, I don't think even someone Vader's size was going to pick Ron Simmons to be the guy they'd go into business for themselves against.

I don't think it was anything malicious as Vader has spoken highly of Ron in interviews, it felt to me like the slam was just enough to get him hooked for the 3 count and not much else.

This was during Vader's unstoppable monster phase. My guess was that they were trying to protect him as a monster and top heel, as well as sell that Vader wasn't prepared for Ron and underestimated him.

Hard as it is to believe of a guy who became a glorified JTTS within half a decade, but Vader was treated almost the same way then as Lesnar is now. Also, as popular as Simmons was, his push to the title came out of nowhere. He'd spent most of the year chasing the US Tag titles with Big Josh on TV and having random singles matches on PPV. Him hitting Vader with everything he had and only barely winning just added to the drama and feel-good moment of his title win.

This is one of the more inexplicable matches not to be on the network yet. Unless I am just looking in the wrong place?

Butch Reed told Vader to no-sell it.

This is one of the more inexplicable matches not to be on the network yet. Unless I am just looking in the wrong place? It's on the August 8,1992 edition of WCW Saturday Night on the Network, they show the clips of what led to the match and the title win. Also, what's the deal with the Butch Reed references? I saw that in another thread and wondered if something happened with Butch Reed recently.

I think just to protect him in defeat if anything. Vader was pretty unstoppable on that run from memory.

Probably just because the guys were partners and feuded. Both Ron and Butch did an autograph show not too long ago. I met Butch a few years ago and he was so nice and had such a quiet kindness and humbleness to him.

I saw that in another thread and wondered if something happened with Butch Reed recently. It's a running joke from the Bruce Prichard podcast. He said "Butch Reed was over in Florida" as a response to a question, and it amused Conrad so much that now he won't stop making up false accolades for Reed. It's actually bled over to Tony Schiavone's show, where Conrad had just ran the joke into the ground.

I guess Vader did it to suggest an illusion of a fluke victory, as if he knew he could regain the title easily.
