What are some film series where film #3 is actually the best of the series? Nightmare on Elm Street part 3 and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade both come to mind (of course, this is all opinion, since i've heard negativity about those ones too).

You'd be wrong, but I think you could make a coherant arguement for Toy Story 3.
The third Star Wars prequel and Ragnarok are also comfortably better than the two films that preceded them.

It depends on how you look at it, but Endgame was exponentially superior to either Avengers or Age Of Ultron.

Return of the King is my favourite Lord of the Rings film. Prisoner of Azkaban is my joint-favourite Harry Potter film. Whilst not my favourite of the series, Goldfinger tops a lot of people’s Bond films.
And although I can see why some people won’t agree, Iron Man 3 is the best of the three.

"Civil War" is essentially an Avengers movie, and I'd say that was better than Avengers I and II. I would also say it was the best Cap movie of the franchise (though Winter Soldier is very good).

Toy Story 3 is a very obvious one.
If you're considering Man of Steel -> BvS -> Justice League a trilogy I would a hell of a lot rather watch Justice League than the other two, though all of them suck.

I actually liked it better than either Endgame or Infinity War. But if we’re talking about trilogies, figured I’d go with the official one.

I prefer Back to the Future 3 over 2, but I’m not insane, so it’s not as good as the 1st.

The third Star Wars prequel and Ragnarok are also comfortably better than the two films that preceded them. I'd a hell of a lot rather watch the first Thor again than I would Ragnarok, but I will give Ragnarok that while I didn't like it it's miles better than Dark World.

Revenge of the Sith is way better than Episodes I and II. And until I got older, Return of the Jedi was my favorite of the original trilogy.
The Prisoner of Azkaban was also a lot better than the previous two movies.

I almost put ROTK, but they desperately needed to trim about 40 minutes, pretty much all from the extended coda. Would agree the third HP was the best to that point, absolutely. Just got overshadowed by the fourth, which was itself something of an outlier by being better than what preceded it.

The Pokemon movies - Spell of the Unknown is way better than Pokemon 2000 or Mewtwo Strikes Back.

I don’t even regard it as a trilogy. It’s one movie. If I watch it, I watch all 3. What kind of crazy person would just watch one independent of the other?

That’s some serious dedication to your work. It’s one thing if it was middle of a city, but nope. Middle of the road on a stormy night....

It keeps moving on. 2 opens at the end of 1, 3 at the end of. 2!!! You’re not done.

Doesn't exactly count, but Star Trek Beyond as the third film of the reboot was much improved over ST09 and especially Into Darkness.
I go back and forth if Dawn or War is the best of the Planet of the Apes Reboot Trilogy and wouldn't blame you if you gave the nod to the latter.
