Making sure to frame this as what it is, and that's speculation.
A lot of stuff people have already acknowledged, such as that NJPW's gone from a full freeze on mentioning AEW to acknowledging that it has a stake in Tanahashi versus Jericho, but also stuff that hasn't been hit on as much, such as that AXS cancelling NJPW sooner than they would have expected may be forcing their hand a bit.
AEW is the second biggest company in the West, wrestling-wise, without any debate to the contrary, and they have better TV than ROH does.
NJPW's expanding to the west, and is looking at less exposure than they had before losing AXS, and it will take time to get a new TV deal somewhere, so on their end, there's a very clear reasoning for why a partnership would benefit them.
On AEW's end, it would help combat how NXT was bolstered by WWE's mingling them with their stars, which was a good move by WWE, and helped NXT look less like a bunch of scrubs. Some supercard action would offer clear benefits to AEW, too, even if no one would make any claim to NJPW being on main roster WWE's level, since that's obviously an absurd comparison.
I feel like if something does come to pass, it's probably not going to be a full-on invasion or something like that, but a bit of cross-promotion and talent sharing. Also wouldn't be surprised if NJPW were cautious about putting their guys in the ring with Pentagon or the like if they want to placate CMLL, though Ryu Lee already shows who holds the power in that relationship. I'm just curious how much give and take there would be, or if it'd be something like "Okada pins Shawn Spears, MJF beats up YOSHI-HASHI" levels of easy win showcases between them, where neither side is really giving much up.

You clearly aren't ready for the big leagues, being clear about what Meltzer has done.
It should be "Meltzer confirms possible AEW/NJPW Partnership." .Maybe someday you will work for wrestletaint but not like this

I'd really rather they just stay independent of each other, I really am of the opinion if I want to watch a company's guys I'd rather just watch that company and don't really want the complications that can arise from it.

I'd say the only real downside is that since a lot of AEW's biggest acts already worked for NJPW before they went to AEW, there isn't a whole lot of room for dream matches. Most potential for dream matches is Moxley who has really only faced the the B Block talent during the G1 Climax. So there's still guys like Tanahashi, Ibushi, SANADA, Ospreay, and Okada he could work with.

I guess for me, the thing I'd actually be more into is stuff like Ishii versus Darby, or other such matches where it's matches we haven't seen and otherwise couldn't, but guys who can mix it with main eventers but are not like an Okada where they simply are not going to lose in someone else's ring.

It just seems like a smart business decision to let personal feelings get in the way of. I even think maximum impact could be accomplished with minimal crossover and letting the relationship slowly naturally progress.
But fan opinion still seems to be mixed, so..I think it’s fine if it never happens, I just don’t truly see any downsides to it.

I get how you mean, it can be tiresome if you're seeing the same faces everywhere, though I feel like it's just a really practical move for the time being, especially if they don't overdo it. A lot of shared goals in the short term.

For people like Jungle Boy and Darby Allin, it would be interesting to see them in NJPW.
It feels pointless for the Elite, because they already accomplished so much over there.
Wouldn't mind seeing Ibushi in AEW, though.

If the crossover is light, sure bring it on. I wouldn't mind an annual VS show.

I imagine Luchasaurus being over like crazy in Japan I think all three Jurassic Express guys would get a lot of love, but him especially, of course. Jungle Boy is as pure as a pretty babyface as you can get that a lot of the fans would fawn over, and Marko's his own oddity, though I guess he's not that much smaller than some of their juniors.

This would be amazing if it actually happens.
Also, since NJPW has official DLC for Fire Pro, I'm going to make a wild and totally unsubstantiated leap of logic and assume that a partnership would somehow lead to official AEW content on the Fire Pro engine, which would pretty much be video game heaven for me.
(Please don't crush my dreams by explaining how it doesn't work that way.)

Jungle Express dudes in NJPW would be a lot of fun. I think they'd fit in really well over there, even Stunt could fit in by his lonesome in the Juniors. Luchasaurus vs. someone like Lance Archer could be a low key classic.

Bear in mind NJPW is going to run 20+ shows in America this year and wouldn't it be nice to have some younger AEW guys to fill out cards on those shows? Or NJPW can send some young lions to the States for seasoning on AEW TV? Or underappreciated guys like Ishii coming to AEW to tear it up. I don't get why AEW doesn't bring in someone like Suzuki since he's a freelance guy anyway, unless NJPW would kinda frown on it (whereas doing indie matches like vs. Tom Lawlor is no big deal).

True, and Suzuki is able to take outside bookings, anyway, even if he usually doesn't very often. I imagine that match is happening at some point due to Moxley and Jericho being two people Suzuki has explicitly stated he wants to fight, though Moxley's more likely due to not costing 100k per match.

No thanks. I’m not excited to see Omega and his boys littering NJPW cards again.
