Strange Fruit from "Still Crazy"
And then Steel Dragon from "Rockstar" even though much like real bands, the film also ends with the lead singer being replaced by Myles Kennedy.

This really stands out. That band is so good, it's the evil rivals competing against the good heroes in the talent show... and they actually WIN. I was all geared up to be mad, and they win, because they're just better. It's great. Unfortunately, this dude still lost. EDIT how could I have forgotten this guy??

listen to it 3 times and it will be stuck in your head the rest of your life.

Does The Monkees count? Because The Monkees are the greatest. I find it funny that a manufactured band designed to sell disposable music created two of the most timeless songs of the 60s (Daydream Believer and I'm a Believer) Outside of those already mentioned, I'll nominate Stillwater from Almost Famous
I'll second Stillwater with my favorite track. And add the various folk groups from A MIGHTY WIND. www.youtube.com/watch?v=mVh0Iq_85awOr perhaps The Carrie Nations from BEYOND THE VALLEY OF THE DOLLS

It is worth noting that The Archies had a #1 hit ("Sugar").
It is also worth noting that Dethklok is the highest selling (and highest charting) death metal band.
The Monkees, of course, probably are the most successful "Made-For_TV/Movie" band ever. I imagine it is so by a wide mile, to be honest.

It's obviously The Beets.
Would Polaris count? If so, they're a close second.
