What do you think of Motion Simulator rides at amusement parks, ie, The Simpsons Ride, Soarin, and the like? Do you enjoy them or would you rather be in an actual moving car?

Don't know if it counts but the 3D King Kong simulator in the backlot tour pales in comparisons to a life size animatronic King Kong that's right in front of you. That used to scare the crap out of me as a kid

Not been on that many. But quick thoughts on ones I have been on:
Star Tours (Disneyland California) went on this in 2013 so it was post revamp (with 3PO piloting) and pre sequel trilogy content being added. Only got to ride it once .. wanted to ride it again to see other scenarios, but ran out of time. It was a fun ride. One of the originals, although it would be nice to ride how it originally was with pilot droid Rex.
The Iron Man Experience (Disneyland Hong Kong) the newest motion simulator I have been on. This one is great, this one really nails the motion part .. it did feel like I was flying a Marvelverse jet thing. Has it’s own unique story (Armin Zola attempts to sabotage Stark Tower in Hong Kong), and great 3D effects.
The Simpson’s (Universal Studios Hollywood) - while this has a great setting and queuing area, the ride itself is quite lame. For one thing they used this subpar 3D animation style once the ride starts.. While the above rides made me feel like I was in the Star Wars Universe and the MCU.. I didn’t feel like I was in The Simpson’s world... it felt like I was in one of those crappy Simpson’s video games. Why couldn’t it be like that defunct Hannah Barbara ride that used 3D but made to look 2D.. such a waste of the IP. Ride part though.. it was ok .. didn’t blow me away.
That’s it lol. I went on one at the Melbourne Aquarium about 20 years ago .. but I don’t remember much of it.

Eh. I’m torn.
Like, I agree with the poster above that the new King Kong sucks. And sucks HARD compared to the original. Maybe that’s just nostalgia.
I do enjoy Star Tours and found myself riding it multiple times and marginally excited each time. It’s fun. Effective.
I really liked the Harry Potter one at Universal. I think that one nails the simulation and moving just right. I f***ing loved that ride. I enjoyed Mummy too.
On the other hand I thought Fast and Furious sucked and Cars (I know, that’s not simulated) sucked too. So I guess my point is, it can be good if simulated but needs to find a balance with movement and something (or multiple aspects) thst gives it a “live”, “real” feel.

Grew up really enjoying Star Tours and Body Wars at Disney (MGM Studios and EPCOT Center, respectively), but as I've gotten older I don't handle them as well, I think.
Like, I got back to Universal Studios in Florida for the first time in ages this past summer, and SO many rides used screens and 3D effects and/or other motion simulator tech, and I got a few headaches that really didn't help my enjoyment of the proceedings.
In general I'm an old school theme park fan: given the choice between a real set, ride track, and animatronics or screens, I'll take the former every time.

I loved Star Tours. Otherwise I can take them or leave them. Depends on what makes them different from other motion simulators.

I’ve only been on ones that are small, like the size of a van. I loved them as a kid. Not a ride guy at all.

They seem alright. But yeah, Old King Kong scared me, while virtual King Kong would probably not scare children.

Rode The Simpsons Ride and it made me feel sick to my stomach..... still enjoyed the ride though. Same with the Avatar ride at Disney. Amazing.... but felt really woozy after it was over.
