Of the two most popular Indiana Jones movies (we wont talk about Temple of Doom or Crystal Skull), which one do you prefer? While Raiders arguably has more action, Last Crusade has a better story IMO, and I like Sean Connery as Indy's dad.

I’ve only appreciated Raiders properly in the last 15 years or so, but Last Crusade is my favourite of the bunch. The Ford/Connery double act is a joy to behold, the last part of the film is essentially a huge chase scene and Mr Bronson from ‘Grange Hill’ plays Hitler.
What’s not to like?

While I adore Raiders (Karen Allen is very effective, and it does have the stronger villains) Last Crusade is just that much better. Marcus is more fun, the dynamic between Indy and his dad is even better than the one Jones has with Marion, the film just nails the big emotional moments so perfectly. Even thematically, the quest for the grail works as a good centerpiece for Indy, Henry, & Elsa's characters and the conclusion of that story feels better executed than the Ark does.

.......I mean, they're both great. But Last Crusade was one of my 1st big movie theatre experiences (and as a result way more watchable when I was younger) so that edges Raiders out.

Crusade Raiders is better than Last Crusade. So is Temple of Doom. That's blasphemy! He actually says “that’s for blasphemy” How dare you get Sean Connery wrong! Don’t get me wrong, I love Last Crusade and it’s one of my favourite films ever. But to me Temple of Doom is the better of the sequels and I always think it’s a bit unfairly treated.

Raiders for me, Last Crusade is great but it kind of copies everything raiders did just bigger just with Sean Connery father issues..
Desserts, chase scenes in vehicles, booby traps in caves, Nazis, competing archeology teams, Salah and Brody. It’s pretty much a raiders recycled but with a less interesting villain.

Temple of Doom. f*** all of ya. 😁
Seriously, it's the first one I saw as a little kid, and the heart rip, mine car chase, and bridge sequences are top shelf.
I love them all though. Yep, all THREE of them.

On a note: Why in the hell are the Nazi's in these movies always trying to find treasure? Surely they'd be better suited putting the money towards funding the war effort instead of flying to find relics from the past? In the context of the movie, I mean, did the Top Brass for the Nazi's really think that trying to find 'The Lost Ark' was going to win them the war?
Personally, though, I have to go with Raiders, it's my personal favourite of all the Indiana Jones movies, even if Marcus is amazing in the Last Crusade.

They actually mention it in Raiders, that Hitler was obsessed with these sorts of things. This is based on his true interest in archaeology and the occult. And that may sound far-fetched but considering some of his other beliefs, the notion that Hitler was so obsessed with the possibility of the power contained by the Ark that he sent people to find it, well, it isn’t that much of a reach.

Moreover given that Raiders is set in 1936 and Last Crusade in 1938, Germany isn't quite at full scale war with major power yet, and won't be doing any significant land offensives against them till 1940. Within that context, Hitler utilizing resources from a technically peacetime Germany for the acquisition of relics makes sense.

Even though Crusade has General Veers, I prefer Raiders because it has Porkins. It's damn near the perfect movie.

Raiders has the better set pieces, but I prefer Last Crusade just for it's ending. Raiders ends in a very dark way, the Ark will be hidden away and everything will be covered up. With Last Crusade, Indy rides off into the sunset with his dad and best friends. What better way to end a franchise.
