Ok this is just hit the local news,Jackson MS,today.
Seems some of the money that was stolen was given to Ted Sr's ministry.....
Wonder if Ted JR is tied into this?

This all seems remarkably on-brand for the DiBiase wrestling family.

Something tells me since he got laid off, "a former tax auditor" snitched him out. Hmm...wonder who could have done so?
There is a story in the Clarion Ledger (Jackson, MS based paper) that broke it all down. Up to 98% of welfare aid refused because the money funneled to Heart Of David Ministries? This isn't going to be good.

Even if Ted sr wasn't directly involved in the embezzlement, he took millions earmarked for helping the poor he wasn't entitled to and spent it on a film about himself. Even if he did nothing technically illegal, it was morally abhorrent and he knew damn well he wasn't due such a windfall given how long his ministry had been running without seeing such government funded largesse.

That's the thing. They took the money and used it. They are likely going to spin it by saying "we did good stuff with it by helping the community", but the reality is they took money from the government not earmarked for them and used it for other purposes, and... to be blunt, and this is based off of my experiences getting aid from churches in the past (on an somewhat unrelated topic, but it circles back to this), but sometimes, churches don't do humanitarian acts of good for the betterment of society. They do it to spread the word of their religion, of the subset or denomination of said religion. For churches, it's all about the recruitment game, and the more members you get, the more likely you can get people to donate or donate big to support you since you're tax exempt to begin with. I know this may hit home to some members and may cross the line with the moderators, but as an individual who has dealt with some... bad experiences with Christianity, which I won't go into further details, I just can't help but shake my head on the fact that they knew what they were doing was wrong, but not they did do it, but they took the money and ran with it in a state that is among the poorest in the nation and is already tight-fisted in assistance to those who actually do need it.

I would think every single church tries to spread the word, that's gotta be accepted as a given. It's no secret. Yes sometimes people in churches do wrong things. Have to be transparent and accept accountability where appropriate. You don't have to have had a bad experience with Christianity (whether you mean individual Christians or the idea of Jesus Himself) to know that in this scenario, Ted was knowingly in the wrong. I shake my head too at the situation you describe in your second paragraph. They're not following what Jesus taught at all. Same as if they legally kept money in an offshore account for tax dodging purposes.

If I read right, something like 98% of the people who applied for TANF in Mississippi while this was going on were turned down. And I'd bet dollars to donuts that it was spun as those applying were just too lazy to work.

Welp! Were the Ultimate Warrior internet ramblings of Dibiase's newfound religion being a front actually true?
What year is it?

I have always had good experiences in aid from churches and fellow Christian people, I hope Ted sr. wasn't knowingly doing this and breaking the law, I highly doubt he's faking being a pastor just to get money.

Jake Roberts once found religion, he then found out the crackhouse near the highway.

I have always had good experiences in aid from churches and fellow Christian people, I hope Ted sr. wasn't knowingly doing this and breaking the law, I highly doubt he's faking being a pastor just to get money. He's been running his ministry since 1999, he only got millions in government money after his son was installed in a role he wasn't qualified for. He would need to be special kind of naive to not know there is something wrong, yet he spent it without any shred of shame while the people it was intended for went without. His ministry went from getting $5000 in 2013, to receiving millions after 2017 once his son was installed to oversee the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program. I'm not American, I'm unlikely to ever set foot in Mississippi, but even I know Mississippi is not a wealthy place, certainly not prosperous enough that the DiBiase family qualify as needy. While I don't believe he's faking being religious for personal gain, that doesn't mean every decision he makes is in the best interests of others. This definitely wasn't. Every penny that he took was taken from people in genuine poverty.

Interestingly enough, I had some classes with the state auditor who caught him at Ole Miss. IIRC, Ted Jr. is in big with a fairly well off group in Mississippi that owns an oil company and several gas stations. I thought Ted Jr. was working for a company that sells/resells textbooks? Maybe he moved on from that? The College Text book game is ANOTHER giant racket that ought to be looked into...

That's why I rent online. Sure it sucks that I won't have future access but spending $140 for a book and then struggling to get rid of it since it was course specific is a crock.
