And the Minor League season is canceled. Knew it was coming but it still sucks. And it's particularly sucks for us here in Rhode Island. Two years ago I was devastated when the Pawsox announced they were moving to Worcester to become this monstrosity: As disappointed as I was I vowed to go to as many games as I could before they left. I even brought a ticket to the Final Game which was scheduled on Sept. 7th all the way back in March. I was determined to be there at the end. But that was all blown to hell. Ironically I did witness the Pawsox's final game as I attended the season finale in 2019. It was a thrilling game to as Cole Sturgeon hit 3 homers, including the walk off blast in the 10th, to lead the Pawsox past the Iron Pigs. But if I knew that it would be the last I'd see of them I'd have done more to take it in. There is an outside chance that they could stay next season. The pandemic halted construction of the Worcester ballpark and it may not be ready by opening day 2021 but I'm not holding out hope. There was also talk about luring another team here, maybe from A ball, but with all the talk of contracting Minor League teams it also looks unlikley. So that's it? 50 years, a lifetime of memories and this is how it f***ing ends? We don't even get a chance to say goodbye? I know compared to what many others have lost a Minor League Baseball team is small potatoes. But it still hurts. KILL IT WITH FIRE!

I know compared to what many others have lost a Minor League Baseball team is small potatoes. But it still hurts. That's the thing; Pawtucket's moving to Worcester, and the system is going to most likely lose 25% of its franchises. So, for plenty, this is them saying goodbye, and their fans never got the chance to properly send them off.

22 days till mlb season (hopefully) Today is the day players have to test before heading into camp. I think we will get a sense of how likely a season is based on how many positives we see in the next few days. If it’s around the % that the NBA had (5%), then that would be a victory for MLB since they will have to test at least 1800 players (60 man roster x 30 teams). I would expect more than 5% though.

Also apparently Manfred said the season was never going to be more than 60 games, and the whole negotiations was just a farce just to see if the players would cave so the owners could save some money

The owners can literally do whatever they want and people will still blame them and the players equally or nearly equally. It's laughable.

Manfred really needs to go, between saying things like the World Series doesn't matter and the trophy is just a piece of metal, to this. this is how you get lockouts the next CBA negotiations are not going to be pretty

It’s hard to envision a scenario where there’s not a work stoppage after 2021. The players have no trust in the owners. And Manfred just publically admitted that the players have every reason not to.

I'll admit that I blamed the players just as much as the owners, Now I know that's not the case It was obvious to me when I saw someone break down the numbers and it turns out each proposal from the owners was within a percentage point or two of money on their end. They were just f***ing around with numbers and never actually conceding anything

Everything Manfred does is designed for short term profit. He doesn’t care about the long term health of the sport. So that isn’t surprising. The players have every reason not to trust him or the owners.

This forced them to come together before that and it was a mess, and brought on further mistrust. I suspect the MLBPA is going to play real hardball for the next CBA so we are assuredly looking at a long labor stoppage.

As they should Just for the minor league time manipulation alone was worth going to bat for. Players have essentially been "forced" into signing long term deals or they risk being f***ed with and not getting their for 7-8 years instead of 6. Braves have basically stolen money. Don't get me wrong, the financial/accountant side of me applauds them getting smart deals done without breaking bank but the other side of me knows they took advantage. $100 mill for Acuna is a steal. $40 mill for Albes is a steal. Manfred opening his big mouth gives MLBPA much needed leverage. Clark and Co got gifted a lay up and they better not Patrick Ewing it

Manfred opening his big mouth gives MLBPA much needed leverage. Clark and Co got gifted a lay up and they better not Patrick Ewing it Making matters worse is that by the time some of these players become free agents, they are closing in on 30 year's old or older, and that is when players (post PED's) tend to decline. Teams being more analytical realize that paying big money for a player's declining years doesn't make sense, so now free agent deals for non-superstars are not going to be as lucrative as they used to be. That is what makes Acuna and Albies' deals even more questionable. I realize they probably come from poor backgrounds and guaranteed money up front is likely going to help their families, but both players would have been free agents after their age 26 seasons. It would be more risky going year to year, especially for Albies who is a short 2B and those don't always age well, but Acuna probably cost himself well over $100 million by signing a deal for $100 million. It's insanity. Service time manipulation has to be fixed in the next CBA, but so does a player's salary from their 0-6 years. It will never happen because owners are cheap as hell, but increase the league minimum to $1 million and start arbitration after year 2. That way players are at least millionaires by the time they reach the league, and get to be paid more fairly in their primes.
