There is a good chance there isn't going to be baseball this year. Man, if there is no baseball this year, then this is the reality: 2020: No baseball. NBA and NHL conclude their seasons. 2021: Baseball is played, but will go head to head with the NBA all season. 2022: Baseball will likely be locked out (CBA ends after 2021). That's a pretty sad timeline there if it happens. I feel like the MLB and the MLBPA will eventually smarten up and realize that starting the baseball season on July 4th weekend is the smartest thing they could ever do from a business standpoint and they'll come to an agreement. They can make the 1993 Lex Luger patriotism push look subtle by comparison if they are the first major team sport to return in the US on July 4th weekend. They can't be greedy enough to not see that.

On the surface you're right, problem here is owners want to profit as normal. Why should Mike Trout play for 7 mill instead of 36 when he's putting himself at risk and has a pregnant wife? The owners don't socialize profits but they wanna do it for losses while refusing to open books.

A-Rod now trying to work with Robert Kraft to buy Mets.
As a Flushing native, Bob Kraft is going to LOVE the close by area of Main Street and Roosevelt Avenue if you know what I mean

I do not want Bob Kraft anywhere near the Mets. The Nats will pay their minor leaguers $400 a week after all. They had threatened to cut it to $300 but Doolittle (who is the f***ing man by the way) and others were going to help them so they had to "save face." f*** these owners.

Yankees I think cut some of their minor leaguers Owners think they can get away with this shit until players speak out. I think last week David Price said he was giving 1k to some of the minor leaguers in Dodgers system

Yeah no one should be siding with the owners here. They have a monopoly due to the anti trust exemption so they are basically guaranteed to make a ton of money every year. It literally took a pandemic to have them incur some “losses” (and we don’t really know if it’s losses or just less profit). The way they have cheaped out on paying minor leaguers and wanting the players to play for nothing is ridiculous.
Manfred should be looking for every possible way to recover revenue, not try to save a few pennies by not paying talent who have to live with 6 other people in a one bedroom because their normal pay is practically nothing.

Speaking of the Mets, Pete Alonso is a good dude. Just felt like saying that.

MLB is now proposing a 50 game season where the players get their prorated salaries. Apparently, Manfred has the authority to unilaterally start the season at any length as long as the player salaries are prorated, so seems like worst case scenario we will get a 50 game season, but this might be more posturing.
I'm kind of curious how a 50 game season would look, though. That short of a season makes no sense for a game like baseball, but fewer games means every game means something, and maybe that will reflect TV viewership. Lord knows 162 games is a chore for most people. I think 80-100 games would be an interesting experiment, as 50 seems very short (imagine the Yankees or Dodgers starting the season 10-15 due to injuries or bad luck....half the season done already).
At this rate though much like with basketball, I'll take anything I can get.

An interesting experiment to see how fans react to it, and 50 games is better than 0, but not a fan of how short that would be. Baseball for a better or worse is a marathon sport. Maybe 162 is too much, but needs to be at least 100. Due to the virus, a compromise would be half the season (81-82 games). Hopefully they get closer to that number.

If they don't start by middle of July, yeah I don't see no more then 60 games being paid 50 games is going to be too short and you're to hear people say the title isn't legit

NBA: We all need to work together for a plan. Done. NHL: We have a reasonable plan, is everybody on board? Yup. MLB: We'll give the players $12/hr and free ice cream. You have one hour to decide otherwise the ice cream is off the table.

To be fair, the NBA and NHL have already played most of their regular seasons, so the owners already got a large chunk of regular season revenue. MLB hasn’t gotten anything yet as the shutdown started 2 weeks before their regular season was going to start. If the shutdown happened in mid August of this year rather than mid March, then MLB’s stance might have been different.
With that said, the tone deafness of MLB is very high right now. I read an article recently that looked at regional TV ratings for MLB versus NBA in 2019, and MLB surprisingly smoked them. With the two leagues about to go head to head in 2021 and possibly permanently after that, MLB can’t afford to have that gap narrowed by alienating fans now.

MLB rejected the players' 114 game proposal.
I feel like no season is likely.

Games will be played but MLB has f***ed themselves this season This is what’s blurry to me. It sounds like everything’s a mess, but games are going to be played without an agreement? How and why?

Well, I won't say no agreement will not be made but I can see some players saying f*** the season if it isn't up to what they want compensation wise Both MLB and MLBPA know the consequences of a missed season. If anything there will have to be a compromise in the middle but this will be felt next season as well as players coming up to free agency are going to take an L

You know...this would be a swell time for Mark Cuban to start planning a third league.

That's what Harvey had. His career is probably done. Shame.
