So would it be considered racist if April was made white again? Not gonna lie I kinda want it happen because I know someone will get upset and start crap over it because it'll be some kind of step back for diversity or something like that. Yeah, when they turn April white again (because they will), some idiot will call it racist like Leslie Jones got mad at the upcoming Ghostbusters movie basically acting like the 2016 film never happened. But really, it is more "no one wants to remember a flop" which happens.

Honestly I think TMNT on television would have been served waiting for the franchise to breath a bit before premiering another show less than a year after the previously one ended. Plus with all the online fights about cartoon reboots these days, Rise got stuck right on the middle of it, and never seemed to shake off the stigma of its tone/style's early mixed reception.

I watched the premiere of Rise up until that moment when April shouted her name and then did this really odd flip that was done to make it look like they skipped a bunch of frames and then tapped out. I didn't religiously watch the prior series but what I saw was decent.

Aww...
Matt Mahaffey did the music on that show. I’m a big fan of his. It was a little jarring when the show is two 15 minute segments. I thought the designs and the art work was cool. Oh well.
Like Scooby Doo and Spider-Man I’m sure we will see another show soon enough.

I'm a die-hard TMNT fan, mostly comics but other media obviously too. Let me just say that April's race can be anything and it works. She's just a typical American from New York, America's melting pot. Anyone who fusses about it aren't looking at it from the sensible perspective. I guess the last name is a bit limiting, but I honestly don't care. Just write her well.
As for the show, it was destined to fail. As dumb as it sounds, adults play a huge part in toy sales for TMNT. Much like Star Wars and Power Rangers, even though it has a child fanbase, they never go away so inevitably there are more adult fans. Fans who collect toys. The show completely reimagined the concept and the nostalgic adults balked.
I did.
Here's the thing, though - I'm not very picky with TMNT. I adore the 2012 series and think it had such pure heart in the writing. I loved 2K3 for being an adaptation of Mirage. I can enjoy the '87 cartoon miniseries that started the craze for it's sharp satire. I love the 1990 movie to death. I even found a few redeeming qualities in the second Bay-Turtles. Rise is in an exclusive club with Next Mutation and the Image volume of TMNT as stuff I won't f*** with.
A suggestion I saw online which I loved was a cartoon based on the art style and maturity level of the Archie Turtles comics. Man, that would be a dream come true for me and I'm sure many others.

This is honestly... surprising to say the least. I always assumed that Rise was doing decent in spite of the reception like Teen Titans Go. Guess not...
Which is sad because Rise has much better writing than Go.

I knew the reception to Rise wasn’t great, but I’m a bit surprised at how quickly it got canned. I figured Nick would have tried to stick with it a bit longer.
I only saw the first 4 or so episodes and I can’t say the show did anything for me. It seemed like the characterization for everyone was “wacky”. From The Turtles, to April, to Splinter, it really felt like a team full of Michelangelos. Didn’t really feel like anyone had their own voice. Can’t say I even remember anything about the main villain either.

Regardless, on its own, it wouldn't be racist to make her white again. It would be racist if you're specifically motivated by some racial or political agenda, though.

Not really a franchise I can claim to have ever been into - full disclosure, I have no earthly idea which turtle is which - but it kind of feels to me like if you're going to be rebooting it every few years like Power Rangers or Transformers then you might as well go wild and radically break from the existing template instead of following the same general framework. I probably wouldn't put April in it at all just in the name of mixing things up.

Traditionally depicted more or less the same, with most changes being gradual over time. Think of it like this - Each iteration of TMNT is like pizza. Sometimes you get a pepperoni, sometimes a veggie, sometimes a crazy combo, but its always pizza. Rise of TMNT was cheeseburgers and fries. Still greasy cheesy food, but not what we ordered.

I would love a cartoon that adapts the Mirage series. Sure Foxkids came close, and the Kirby tribute episode is still the best TMNT episode ever.
Never bothered much with any series after that FoxKids one.

Never bothered much with any series after that FoxKids one. Fox Kids ceased operations in 2002, that TMNT premiered on the Fox Box in 2003. In the UK, it did air on the channel that was previously known as Fox Kids, but by the point it had become Jetix.

I’m a huge Turtle Mark. And loved the 2012 series. Rise just did t do it. It didn’t feel like turtles. It felt like people dressed up like turtles and trying to be like them and failing horribly.

Shredder is some sort of demon thing is only showing up in the last season. Splinter is more of a fat slob than hardened sensei...

All those things can work critically and can win people over, but that in combination with a controversial redesign may have simply been too much at once for a general audience.

Yeah, I'm not saying it was bad or good based on that... but they changed the formula pretty massively for the latest version. I didn't even mention all the weapons were different. Each version of the turtles have been different in style pretty much than every other version... so none really rigidly stuck to the formula.

I would love to see a TMNT series that went the "Beware the Batman" route and just loaded it up with obscure and lesser-known characters from the TMNT mythos. Pimiko, Shadow Jones, Usub Gerstalk, Tempestra, Vam Mi, Carter, Mr. Touch and Mr. Go, any of those 90's action figure characters that never appeared on any show like Halfcourt or Sandstorm, etc. Man that would be right up my alley. Of course I'm pretty sure I'm the only TMNT fan in existence that would appreciate a show like that, so I can't see Nickelodeon being all too interested in making it.
