TMNT is like Transformers now. I love the franchise in general, but there are so many reboots every couple years that I can't even keep up with it. I still haven't even gotten around to watching the CGI show from a few years ago.

I still haven't even gotten around to watching the CGI show from a few years ago. It's worth making the time for. So many people dismissed it because of the animation "ruining their childhood" or some nonsense, but it's the best written Turtles show by far. The maturity with which they handle the Yoshi/Saki relationship is something I never expected.

What I saw of Rise was interesting, but I feel like it was put in an awkward position. 2012 TMNT was obviously a power house, and following it was going to be hard for anything, so, you have to go different with it. Then, you get pushback for it being so different, but if you don't experiemtn, then you're going to run into franchise fatigue even harder than it already did. It's rough.
I feel like Ninja Turtles are going to be a thing for years and years to come, but it's going to have hot and cold periods, same as Star Wars or Transformers or lesser yet still long running ones like Power Rangers or GI Joe.

Andy Suriano, creator of Rise of the TMNT, has posted a eulogy for his show No sympathy from me. He speaks as if the only way to give any heart or diversity to TMNT was to reinvent the wheel. There was so much heart in the 2012 series, and his idea that he is responsible for taking the Turtles beyond generic archetypes is laughable. The Archie TMNT series was rich with character and diversity, and that was 30 years ago. I don't know, to me he sounds like Paul Feig after Ghostbusters 2016. He took massive creative license with a beloved franchise with highly established characters, and it blew up in his face. Somehow, that makes him a victim. Cry me a river.

Ok, here's my idea for a new TMNT cartoon, tentatively called "TMNT: Unending", made up of obscure and forgotten characters from the outer reaches of the canon.
The series opens with the Turtle having a final confrontation with The Shredder, intent on ending their feud once and for all, driven by the fact that Shredder has finally managed to recently kill Splinter. When the battle ends, Shredder is dead, their war over.
We flash forward a couple of months later. April and Casey have left NYC for the West Coast to raise their adopted daughter Shadow in peace. They're not completely gone from the show, but their parts will be very very minor.
The Foot Clan has descended into a civil war, the two sides each led by one of Shredder's daughters, Karai and Pimiko. The older Karai, in her early-to-mid twenties, is very serious and stoic. She wants the Clan to be a more traditional ninja clan, operating in the shadows, striking quick and hard before disappearing, their existence little more then rumors. The teenage Pimiko on the other wants to be The Kingpin. She is much more irreverent and flamboyant, and thinks the leader of the The Foot should be a celebrity criminal who everybody answers to. Nobody shoplifts a pack of gum in her territory without her permission, and every legal authority in the country is in her pocket so nobody could move against her.
The Turtles initially side with Karai, feeling she is the lesser of two evils. However, when they see how much collateral damage Karai is willing to accept to win the war, they abandon her and vow to stand alone against both sides.
Meanwhile a mysterious Asian ninja named Aska has shown up in the city, and quickly raised the ire of both sides of the Foot. When the Turtles confront her, she tells them she is a time traveler from eighteen years in the future. At some point in the next couple of years, a massive Mutagen Bomb will be detonated, destroying most of the world and turning what's left into a post-Apocalyptic wasteland, with most survivors becoming mutated monsters who, led by the warlord Titanus, dominate the planet. Aska, one of the last humans left, is sent back to stop it. Unfortunately she doesn't know many of the details on the hows and whens, just that the bomb has something to do with Foot civil war. It's eventually revealed that Aska is actually an eighteen year old Shadow Jones, using technology to hide her appearance.
Other characters:
Shinigami - Karai's chief lieutenant and girlfriend. A skilled ninja who incorporates slight-of-hand and other stage magic tricks into her fighting style. As the Foot civil war carries on she grows to conclude that Karai has no chance of winning and betrays her in favor of Pimiko.
Carter - a teenager and skilled martial artist who at one point catches Pimiko's eye and becomes her boyfriend. However, when he discovers what she's truly like he wants nothing to do with her, and is forced to ally with the Turtles to escape her.
HAVOC - Krakus, Torbin Zixx and Usub Gerstalk, Titanus' elite squad of enforcers from the Post-Apocalyptic future sent back in time to stop Aska from changing that future.
Tempestra - a sentient video game brought to life who the Turtles need to stop. I honestly don't have an idea on how she could fit into the over-arching story, but I just really want to use this character somehow.
Mr. Touch and Mr. Go - super-powered mercenaries who work for both sides of the Foot civil war, depending on who's paying the most at the time.
So what do you guys think? Any suggestions, comments or insults?

Once it's fully released, they need to do an adaptation of TMNT: The Last Ronin.
I can't wait for that series to be released. I will definitely be ordering that.

I feel between the actual canon, the idw run, and potentially pushing the boundaries with "urban legends", there are several different directions for the turtles to take and characters to use. Like hell, id love to see usagi yojimbo in modern day era

Ah, spring -- when the intellectual property stakeholders roll out the latest year's TMNT narrative fashions.

I'll always give credit to a show for doing something different with a franchise, but as I've said before, Rise was too frontloaded with all of its deviations to the point where it really made a sour first impression. Especially after two beloved TMNT series, it was always going to be an uphill battle to convince people to look past how different it was to see the value the show had.

Just kill two birds with one stone and do "The Teenage Mutant Turtles Meet Spider-Man" series. That should give them enough time to think of something interesting for the next reboot of both of those franchises.
