I don't see the benefits of releasing main roster talent. With no live events & very low merch sales, you are basically only paying them their downside guarantees (which you'll have to pay anyway if you release them). The releases would be more likely to come from lower-tier talent without any guaranteed money coming.

Vince was just named as an adviser to reopening the economy, think about that.

Honestly, if they’re not in Florida and easy to drive to and from the performance Centre, there’s a high chance right now they won’t keep you. There’s no possible reason for them to spend money flying people out and taking a risk on having to quarantine anyone for a couple of weeks while doing live shows. I say that knowing full well freaking No Way Jose traveled miles via plane and train to be squashed by Bobby Lashley so who even remotely knows?

In terms of the roster probably some PC prospects that havent improved and jobber NxT roster members with some of the higher paid lower card main roster guys and girls. I really hope they dont cut too many people though. I got laid off last year and it sucked

This is going to be something that changes the landscape of wrestling forever. Yep. Not just WWE but the indies as well, wrestling as a whole is going to be heavily damaged due to Covid-19, quarantine, these cuts. This is the beginning of a new era and it's one that unfortunately didn't start due to anything company related but due to a virus. We're living in unprecedented times.

SHIT.
BREAKING: WWE has come to terms on the release of Drake Maverick (James Curtin), Curt Hawkins (Brian Myers), Karl Anderson (Chad Allegra), EC3 (Michael Hutter) and Lio Rush (Lionel Green). We wish them all the best in their future endeavors.

You have to assume Zack and Luke are next and the WWE just didn't get to them. Man. this is really disappointing.

Also, I guess that NXT Japan thing is not happening anymore. Speaking of Japan... Hiroshi Tanahashi, New Japan Pro-Wrestling: ‘While events have been cancelled, our wrestlers have been training diligently and maintaining their focus for an eventual return. Yes, not being able to wrestle does make a lot of us concerned for our livelihoods, but in the world of sports, be that baseball, soccer, or sumo, I feel that professional wrestling should be the anchor. I think it should be acceptable for professional wrestling to be the last sport to return to full activity. I want people to know that when professional wrestling is back, then and only then it means truly that Japanese entertainment has properly recovered.’ The difference here is staggering to say the least. Good on Tana.

Anderson’s final act was getting killed off by The Undertaker in the Boneyard match. Hell of a way to go out. Feel bad for those losing their jobs though.

Realize this thread is locked for the moment, but was asked to post this here, as well, from the roster cuts thread: There's a whole lot of attempts to defend WWE going around the internet right now. They start out as seemingly well-intentioned "I think people aren't getting details right about this, we should clarify things" arguments, but pretty much devolve into "You're all being unfair to the WWE!" To address some of them: -A point going around is that WWE does not have $500 million in liquid assets lying around in case of an emergency. This is true! WWE actually has $90 million sitting around like that, the rest is tied up in credit lines and assets that would have to be liquified to reach the $500 million number. WWE itself reported $500 million as a way to maintain optimism among shareholders, getting across the idea that they have this money available to them if worse came to worst. When Meltzer tweeted about this he said "$500 million cash" or something like that, and it was taken the wrong way, or Dave didn't have completely clear details. Fair points! Problem is, well...the $90 million is still a lot, and more than enough to keep the released talent under contract, given that the savings from layoffs amounted to just over $700,000 a month for WWE. And secondly, the $500 million IS there; again, it's just more of a "last line of defense" kind of fund, but that doesn't mean the capacity to access it in the worst case scenario doesn't exist. -Another claim is that Florida never labeled WWE "essential". This is semantical nitpicking, considering Governor DeSantis absolutely did call WWE "vital" (or something akin to that) for Florida's economy...don't ask how it can be when they're not selling tickets or booking arenas, but apparently they are? Point is, it's a silly argument. -It's being rightly pointed out that Linda McMahon did not directly bribe Ron DeSantis. Again, true! Plus, Florida is an expensive state to run political ads in, so I get it being pricier than numerous other places, though reports are the $18.5 million was only committed to ads in the Orlando/Tampa market, not Miami/Jacksonville/etc. Still, Florida, election season, Super PAC, it's the nature of the (bloated, shambling) beast, right? But, again...the timing. You can't go from sheriffs knocking on the Performance Center doors one day to tell WWE they're out of line with state orders, then THE VERY NEXT DAY have $18.5 million pledged to the state by a McMahon-led Super PAC AND have the state orders rewritten right then and there and not have it look like a pretty blatant quid pro quo. DeSantis doesn't get rich off this, but he stands to benefit politically based on Florida's outcomes this year, and he wants that ad revenue pumped into his state during what's sure to be a severe economic downturn period. -Finally, the TV deals; is it possible that they could be altered, renegotiated, etc. in light of what's happening right now? Maybe! But there is zero indication that this is about to happen, so harping on it is pretty much a moot point. Currently, Fox and USA are desperate for content; WWE can give it to them. If anything, WWE is likely in the drivers' seat at the moment with those networks, despite things like Raw's numbers being down. So that money is coming in, and it means that WWE is still looking at operating revenues well into the hundreds of millions, possibly even getting near one billion. There's one thing I heard about WWE's debt load that COULD potentially be a sticking point to be argued about the actual financial health of the company, but I have not seen anywhere near enough information about that to make an informed statement one way or the other, so I leave that to people more in the loop than I am.
