Wrestling news is hilarious. Just like 2 days ago, we had a thread stating that Triple H might not be in charge of NXT anymore. Today, we get news that he is focusing on nothing BUT NXT now.

Demotion in what world? lol
If anything this moves us that much closer to Vince finally preparing for his successor because when he finally gives it up who better than the guy that is basically running a small entire fed down in florida and expanding it? and garnering nothing but praise.
This if anything makes HHH look that much better and prepared for when Vince steps down.

Well Triple H hasn't squashed Coronavirus. Vince McMahon is right to demote him.

global expansion makes it sound like he's been moved to the shed they store all the NXT UK paperwork and stuff in around the back of the Subway on the same industrial estate

I wonder if this will mean an end to the generous contracts being handed to midcarders they have no plans for, simply to keep them out of AEW. I can't imagine those being popular at a corporate level, being both expensive and an admittance that the WWE isn't making the best use of its assets. Reportedly that was on Vince and a major fracturing point that led to the Barrios and Wilson departures, so it's likely we don't see much there. For the most part, talent relations is tasked with doing what Vince wants as he wants it.

I absolutely see this as a demotion, in far more ways than one.
Consider what has happened to most of his NXT picks once they have been called up to the main roster. With the bottleneck on the NXT mainstage and Vince having his criteria no longer being mitigated by Trips's presence on the main roster, I cannot see anyone outside of Keith Lee, Dijakovic or WALTER getting called up on the men's side anytime soon. The NXT women will have a better time of it, but only insofar as they need fresh bodies on Raw and Smackdown, with no guarantee that anyone will get long-term success there.
Consider the current status of contract negotiations with anyone not meeting Vince's approval and _not_ particularly happy with sitting at home collecting their downsides. How many of them now will take Vince's money, knowing that Trips no longer has Vince's ear?
Consider what various independent promoters are thinking of this as they review their partnerships with WWE and NXT.
Given what's gone on during the past year with the main roster and even with the corporate branding and citizenship initiatives, it's increasingly clear that not only Paul, but also likely Steph, are out of Vince's brain trust. Shane has been out for some time and, if he were in, he wouldn't allow half of what's gone down on TV to go unquestioned.
This is Vince...all Vince.

When it comes to talent relations maybe Vince was sick of all the vanilla midgets H was signing.

I’m pretty sure Hunter had free reign on the lower end deals, but signings like Nakamura, Cole and Balor would’ve all had to get Vince’s approval I assume because they all got paid way above NXT standard. And by free reign, I mean “You have X amount of entry level contracts you’re allowed to hand out, it’s your discretion who you use them on” not “hire as many people as you want for as much as you want”

I read this earlier today. It is certainly a demotion as on top of HHH's NXT responsibilities he was in charge of scouting and signing talent, which he has lost. He was always in charge of NXT and it's global expansion. This seems like a way for Vince to get HHH out of his hair on the main roster.
As far as HHH is concerned, I wonder if he even cares, dealing with Vince at this point has to be a nightmare. I still think HHH will be running the main roster on the booking end once Vince passes anyways, as Stephanie will most likely inherit the CEO role.

Right; we can keep saying "doesn't sound like a demotion to me", but it can be a demotion without it involving Trips being locked in Milton's office without a red Swingline stapler. Being the head of talent relations is a major position, and gives someone a lot of power to shape the WWE roster and/or contract environment; obviously those ultimate decisions still lie with Vince, but that doesn't necessarily make the head of talent relations some kind of puppet position, either.

Vince isnt involved with signing as much as you would think. Big signings sure. But Vince isnt watching PWG looking for the next big star. For what it's worth, Triple H knew the names he wanted to get signed to WWE, partly to keep anything like AEW from getting their hands on them, but also because he knew they'd be what was best for business. Vince was quite willing to pay for these guys, but also has in his mind what kinds of pro wrestler he wants headlining his product. Vince's types of guys aren't readily available in the numbers he wants - not only have those types moved on to MMA or football or simply don't exist anymore at that size, but also they've eschewed the kind of competitive, political toxicity that once permeated Vince's locker room and from which Vince profited handsomely. Trips has had his ear rather closer to the ground than Vince has during the last several years, which makes the disconnect between Triple H's vision and Vince's all the more jarring. It's become clear that most of the great pushes we'd gotten during the last few years have been Triple H's ideas more so than Vince's; it's also clear that Vince McMahon without that help hasn't a clue what to do anymore, and has nobody in creative willing anymore to guide him.

The reality is, NXT's 'global expansion' is not actually a big project. It's a franchising of their wrestling school, and an expansion of scouting and try-out efforts onto a bigger scale with the effect of trying to hamper non-WWE scenes. And it's an expensive, unprofitable one. Even with Takeovers and the TV deal, it isn't bringing in a net gain; now that loss is justified for what having a top of the line school can do in terms of building up the next generation, but it is still ultimately a side project. Going from overseeing that and all of talent relations--where he can then have finger control over the goings on with contracts and the roster he wants for the future--to simply overseeing that is definitely a loss of power. Whether it's one that signals him losing control and clout or is simply him refocusing his efforts is the actual question. But the objective statement isn't one that says it defintely isn't or definitely is.

No but no manager is scouting every college football game or international soccer match or whatnot looking for suitable talent for their te ams. We know Regal does that because he's been seen in places and those potential names still have to be pitched to Vince or HHH or whoever to sign. Like...I'm not saying he's involved in every step but considering how much control Vince has, if he wasn't aware about who was being signed, that would be REALLY weird.

I'm glad. I really don't think he's the executive to be able to succeed as a successor to Vince McMahon. Vince McMahon may be a polarizing figure in the way he acts and I don't like a lot of his actions but he has a presence as a successful businessman to the general public, not just wrestling fans. I think businessmen looking to do business with Triple H as the successor would see him simply as "the crotch chop guy" and that's about all I see in him as well. Vince's business model may have hurt a lot of competitors but it has worked as a successful model. Triple H's model of business is leech off the other guy and at some point that's not going to work anymore. So essentially when the senile man is gone the WWE is dead. Not dead, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if Comcast buys a large stake with Class A stock in the next few years with an option to purchase a majority ownership.

Scouting has always been the frontline of things, but the orders on who to scout have always come from somewhere. Johnny Ace wasn't exactly a good head of talent relations overall, but the plethora of bad signing decisions made under his watch didn't only come from him. A bunch of big dudes who couldn't work and lingerie models was not just magically right up Vince's alley, those are the sorts of things that Vince wanted to see in his company. I'm sure Triple H has more freedom than Laurinaitis did, but nobody is getting a six figures 'poach them' contract without the boss's okay. Talent relations is a hand, not its own head.
