I found interesting that Amber Heard’s lawyers is saying that social media influenced the jury which is weird seeing as the jury were forbidden from looking stuff about the trial. Interestingly, one of the jurors has made a video on tiktok, i believe, and says that he didn't look at any social media during the trial but now that the trial is over he's looked and is surprised at what people picked up on. For instance, he thought it was really weird and uncomfortable the way Amber would look at them for every one of her answers, and he was surprised that everybody watching picked up on that and thought it was weird too.

The really poisonous thing about this whole situation was, until VERY late in the trial, there wasn't a real counter-narrative. There was the main narrative, "Heard is a psychopath who is so sneaky and brilliant she fakes evidence years before they even got married, but simultaneously so unhinged she shit in a bed in a house he wasn't even staying in." But the counter was this weird fake-high-minded "Pish posh, this celebrity nonsense is so gauche." Until the last week or so, nobody was out there saying, "Uh, hey, yeah, read this decision from the British judge" or other things to defend her. It was either "she's awful" or "only dumb people care."

No they were, and there was no narrative at the start of the trial,it develeopted as they went People brought up the british trial all the time (which was against The Sun not Amber, which If I Recall Correctly is the reason this trial was allowed to happen) and how big the difference were between then. And it was a discussion if it should have been allowed as evidence in the trial or not. Both side will argue a reason is different, Amber side will argue that it was because it was a jury trial while Depp side will argue there was evidence such as audio that werent allowed and that a lot of hearsay evidence was allowed. But as to be expected we will know much more about this one that was public than the UK one.

I wonder if her attempt to appeal is threatened by also getting a judgment, even if a small one next to what Depp won.

That drove me insane...She would get 1 to 1 questions from Camille then immediately turn to the jury and talk directly to them. So awkward.

As far as I know it doesnt, the only thing from her judgement that makes it even harder is that in Virginia you have to pay the full value of what you owe as bond So she would have to upfront "pay" as bond the 10,350 million dollars

Johnny's lawyer got the last word when she told Amber after the verdict that "this is the day you will always remember as the day you almost caught Johnny Depp"

They thought she was going to punch.....uh I mean "hit" them.

Yeh its recommended to look at juries to connect with then but not so...unnatural. it made her look like she was trying to convince then more than anything. There was also the case when she was mid-testimonies and Camille would object her face would lose all emotion and then she would resume her previous emotion when allowed. I;m sure that also rubs the jury the wrong way.

My point is, there was a huge pro-Depp thing and the media response to it was that the whole trial was nonsense. It was only much later people started going, "Oh shit, actually this is fandom ruining the justice system because it's been hijacked by people who want to destroy metoo, we need to talk about how this is bad."

They'll also do stuff like have their client carry a Bible with them, or offer their attorney pieces of candy. It's interesting how much clients are coached in a trial, beyond just how to answer questions.

It's a consequence of televising court hearings. They become entertainment. OJ Simpson being the most famous example.

The trial of Kasey Anthony may have been worse since at least OJ was famous before the trial became a spectacle. That trial was an example of really good lawyers manipulating the prosecution into fighting the wrong fight and dropping the ball, all because the trial became a spectacle and the defense was better at practicing garbage-slinging law.
