I bought a Playstation Vita in 2011, and never bought any Vita games for it. Using it instead to browse the internet only.

I forgot about the Dreamcast. I have a special affinity for that platform with my friends and I playing some fighting game that kept saying "You are on the verge of destiny" or something really close to that. ! That sounds like stuff the Soul Calibur announcer would say. You are completely right and I was completely wrong, it was "Welcome back to the stage of history."

HD DVD player for the Xbox 360. It came with King Kong. Didn’t get through it. I was just about to buy one, it was on sale for about half price, and I passed on it. Like 2 weeks later Blu Ray won the war and the last of the support for HD DVD got dropped. Finally caved and bought a PS3 about 2 years later, go Blu Ray

But there was definitely a point, because I went 360 over PS3 originally, that I was definitely planning on throwing my hat into the HDDVD ring. Seem to remember HDDVD being somewhere between DVD and BD in price too, which also appealed to me

Another one, back in 06 or 07 I bought a Bluetooth wireless headphones for my iPod.
Now this was way before all the beats, AirPods craze. The iPod wasn’t Bluetooth compatible so it came with a transmitter you plugged into the iPods headphone port ,, problem was I had the newer iPod with video screen which had single port on top for headphones.. and the transmitter part was made for the older iPods which had a another rectangular port (for microphones and headphones with iPod controls on them) next to the headphone port... the transmitter had the mic/remote plugin next to the headphone jack so I had to angle it to insert it into the iPod.. and with that I could not use the headphones remote features built into them.
But they worked quite well. But the battery life was crap, could only get just over an hour with them. Plus it was those type of headphones that wrap around the back of your head and the plastic was not very strong... I fell asleep wearing them and it snapped like a twig when I lay my head down
Can’t remember the brand name .. might have been Logitech

My mom bought it for me, but I had a Sony MiniDisc player for a while. Since it was never really fleshed out, I never did much with it. Got a few Bill Hicks albums on it.

I'm going to give honorable mention to the HTC Rezound smartphone I bought about 8 years ago. It was marketed as the ultimate multimedia Android phone and came with Beats earbuds (this was obviously prior to the acquisition). This was also back when HTC was making about six million different models per year. In the two years I owned this phone, I had three different ones due to it bricking (still under warranty). It single handedly turned me off of HTC products for life, which was unfortunate as the incredible and incredible two were great phones. It did get me to go the Samsung Galaxy way and I've never regretted that.

I've lost or broke way too many items like wireless keyboard mouse combos... I've had two of 'em this year and neither works. I probably walked actually on top of 'em though.

Probably spent close to 1500 on a high end gaming PC. 980ti when that was the high end.
I really enjoyed shopping for parts and building a PC, but I’m more of a console gamer and most of my game time is in bed after the wife falls asleep. Buying a new PC didn’t change that.
I’ve probably not spent more than 5 hours on it, and it hasn’t even been hooked up since we moved in September.

I got a portable DVD player which I didn't use and it quickly became clear that I should have just gotten a slightly more expensive laptop.

Bought a digital camera in like 2001 at a K-mart was was closing for like $90. It had an eternal memory and the only way to get the pictures off was to connect it to your PC. I could not get it to work with my computer at all. Box said it should. Went to return it and was told they weren't doing returns anymore. I threw a stink, they gave me a fund. Not my proudest moment.
I also bought a mp3 player at radio Shack in 2013. The workers acted like I was crazy for even wanting one since most people just use their cell phones for music at that point. I had a dated phone. I used it some but ultimately ended up getting a more modern phone not too long after and as such it's useless.

It’s the reason I don’t play games on PC and guys who do play PC games will laugh at me, but saving up all summer one year to buy a $200 video card to play a game only to find out that I needed a new $200 RAM to play it still.
The game: Star Wars the Phantom Menace

Dang, I owned a Creative Zen and a Zune, and I loved them both (though not as much as my Sony Walkman MP3 player). They lasted forever, too. Guess I got lucky.

A Zune. Not because I didn't like it, because I did. But mine bricked like a month into owning it. My mother got one for my youngest brother. Mothers, you know. I should have warned her, but I wasn't paying attention to the mp3 player scene at the time.
