People will pay more money NOT to watch ads. Offering a lower tier with ads is a bandaid on a hole in the dam.

Wasn’t sure where else to put this but if you’re from the UK, Adventure Time: Distant Lands: BMO is premiering on CN UK on November 21st.

It’s a shame TLOU2 killed my interest in the series as a whole, because there was a time I would have been really excited for this.

Big breaking news, it won’t just be Wonder Woman but ALL upcoming WB movies in 2021 will debut in theatres and HBO MAX on the same day which includes Dune, The Suicide Squad, Godzilla vs. King Kong etc.

Well shit, now I need to get an HBO Max subscription.
Y'know...even though it could maybe probably shut down soon. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Movie theaters are toast. Eh, I wouldn’t say that at all. At least here in Europe (if there is a plan on using Sky as this same source since they have the rights until 2024), theatres have been having a big boom in the last decade and there’s still enough of an experience for people to go there on a consistent basis. If anything, I’d say this is them saying things aren’t going to be normal until at least 2022 because of reasons I can’t discuss here and it makes more sense to try another tactic and see how it works then basically have nothing coming out until then or as insanely inconsistent as it can be. EDIT: Also, theatres need to evolve too and basically sort out the shit that’s been putting people off for years if they want people to com back.

Besides, this isn't so much of a death knell for movie theaters.
Now if Disney decides to join in and do the same thing here, then that's a different story. But that's apples to oranges right now as the ratio of Disney+ to HBO Max subscribers to 7 to 1.

I mean, Disney’s sort of going the more extreme route of focusing on stuff for streaming in mind for the most part outside of bigger releases (like MCU and other tent poles) so I guess 2021 will be seeing which one works out best and where the industry is headed.

I would not be shocked to see Disney doing the same thing.... but I bet they will make the consumer pay a premium.

It just feels like they're trying to shift consumer behaviors and using 2021 as the test. I don't mean to say that we'll be sitting here without theaters in 2023 or 2024, but I think there's a real chance they become about seeing big budget event films and that's it. I assume that WB will keep this going in 2022 but put stuff behind a paywall.

I assume that WB will keep this going in 2022 but put stuff behind a paywall. Consumer behaviors in the US, possibly, but movies will still come out internationally because of the amount of fingers in pies and that income won’t be affected, potentially ever depending on how things go. Adding to that, films are only going to be on the service for a month when staying in theaters could last for longer depending on who goes to see them. But it also has to be said...they don’t have much of a choice in the matter. Again, because of circumstances we can’t really talk about, a lot of places are just unsafe to go to even with some places in Europe slowly opening up again (our independent theatres in Ireland are opening from tomorrow under our easing for example but that could change depending on what happens in January and beyond for example).

Is there a certain time they're rolling it out? As of 7:50 AM EST, still no HBO Max.

Has anyone else had any issues logging in? I can log in, but when I try to watch something, it takes me back to the 'subscribe now' page.
