So, an update. The protest did happen today, and our PD were absolute pros about containing it. Armed officers accompanied them every step of the way and had their entire route roped off from the rest of the population. After their batshit insanity was over, they were accompanied back to their starting point and politely asked to leave town immediately. A few locals had some fun at their expense by staging a counter-protest called "March of the Morons", and by drawing chalk outlines of dead bodies along the actual protest's trail. Now, if you're curious just how insane these people are, the local news did a segment on it, which can be found at the following link: london.ctvnews.ca/it-s-not-right-local-legion-not-happy-with-anti-restriction-rally-held-at-cenotaph-in-st-thomas-1.5189306As for my job, despite corporate executives being greedy assholes, they did shell out for armed security and multiple checkpoints, making sure absolutely no one got inside that store without a mask. So I felt relatively safe working, at least. Using the red poppy as their symbol, a few days after Remembrance Day. That may be one of the most tone-deaf things I have ever seen. No word of a lie, they actually marched down to a World War II memorial site we have here in town and held a (3 days late) Remembrance Day ceremony there, comparing soldiers fighting for our freedom to what they're doing now. I wish I was kidding.

Btw, sooooooo loving having to basically quarantine myself from my family because a coworker’s roommates were morons and had a party.
Also, my wife’s cousins have now had to start a couple different GoFundMe accounts, one to pay for her uncle’s COVID medical expenses and another to pay the family’s bills now that he can’t work.

Meanwhile, Indiana, with nearly 1 million fewer people, had 6844 new cases yesterday.

That should get him out of facing any difficult questions about Dominic Cummings over the next fortnight.

FYI, the guy who basically has become Trump’s top advisor on Coronavirus, Scott Atlas, publicly calls on Michigan’s citizens to rise up against Gretchen Whitmer over her COVID measures. I believe I already explained the plans of the last group who took that advice to heart.

The answer? None. He’s not an advisor...he’s a shameless yes man. My niece has to quarantine now after a caretaker at her daycare came down with Covid. That caused my dad to cancel his Thanksgiving trip to see them and he’s going to Illinois to see our family instead since he can’t risk getting stuck there.

Some good personal news; the member of management who was presenting with symptoms tested negative and is already starting to feel much better. Apparently she just caught a cold. We are at the stage in our existence where catching a cold is an existential crisis.

And The Price Is Right is back with just the contestants, the models, George, and a very bearded Drew. And very spaced podiums.

Indiana smashed the daily record with just short of 8,500 cases today. I know people got to eat and pay bills, but opening up everything was a complete disaster. Come on, that's only a 30% increase from the new cases found on Thursday. It's not like we are accelerating or anything. Oh wait..... I live in fountain county( indiana) one of the "red states"- and for a VERY SMALL county- people are just acting like its all a big conspiracy from the governor and lies from our health dept. The town I live in, its just under 3000 people and our mayor is the biggest culprit of it. He goes on the governors facebook streams and basically acts like our little town/county isnt as bad as they say it...yet all i see on facebook is idiots saying "its just the flu" and go on with life as nothing is going on. its a shame

They live in a town similar to yours about two hours south of you, as the crow flies. Every time I visited them the last few years my eyes were assailed by Trump paraphernalia as far as the eye could see (and often replaced pre-existing religious paraphernalia - take from that what you will). My FB feed from the people I went to high school with just eventually made me finally cultivate my feed so that I could not see their utter nonsense, but I know it exists and surrounds my parents. Fortunately, my stepmom takes it deadly serious and rides my dad's ass about taking it serious too. She may have kept him healthy this whole time as a result.

If it's Chicagoland, make sure he is as careful as possible as the numbers are spiking here as well.

We're back to hearing a rumor that we're going to virtual learning at the school I teach at. I'll believe it when I see it. The cases are skyrocketing in the county and there's a ton of kids quarantined on a weekly basis.

So Saturday afternoon, my mom was taking care of her last little lawn projects for the year and stepped back from what she was doing, tripped over a decorative brick as part of the edging and busted her shoulder. This is after she fell in March and gave herself a hairline fracture of her hip. That was a fun phone call to get. So Saturday afternoon into the evening I spent in the ER in Rock Island. Once I finally left once I made sure she was getting properly medicated and comfortable, I got a phone call about 20 minutes after I left saying she was being discharged and had an appointment this morning with the orthopedist to look over her films. So I took her to that, stayed in the car, went and got her groceries, and then had to take her back to the hospital to get more scans.
I've been sweating bullets ever since I was in the ER, considering I heard three different people come in with COVID or COVID like symptoms in the 2ish hours I was there. They were masked and I was masked, I used hand sanitizer after touching anything there, and practically did an Ajax and wire brush shower when I got home, but I'm almost like expecting it at this point. I just can't get over how much of a difference it is mentally right now compared to a couple of months ago. It probably doesn't help matters that the weather is having an identity crisis right now between pouring rain, sleeting, flurrying snow, and the next day being 65 degrees, so any sniffle I'm like, "Oh shit, here we go."
To say I'm slightly concerned about my mom potentially having surgery during the worst of the worst, is putting it mildly. I am just hopeful that it is quick and done and she can be home as soon as possible and away from the exposure potential.
