My mother and grandmother are annoying me so bad about groceries right now. Mom keeps saying we're going to starve because of the meat limits (...no) and Grandma is being especially wasteful because I bought her two rolls of paper towels, and EIGHT boxes of kleenex ten days ago. Then she got mad because Mom went to get stuff at Walmart last week and didn't tell her, because she wanted more paper towels. Then today Mom goes out again and Grandma's not happy because they limited kleenex boxes to four a person. Wtf is this woman doing with all these things? Aaaahhhh

There’s an interview out with Kane and obviously if you know anything about his political views, he’s not a fan of the lockdown. He also said the WWE continuing live shows is the right thing to do so I’m gonna question his judgement. 😬 Someone should ask him how a libertarian society would handle a pandemic.

As they're open today, my Dad went to his first trip to the golf course since restrictions lifted on them being open.
My mum and sister were concerned and hoping he didn't encounter anyone who'd be stupid but it seemed to have gone well. He'd probably be locked up in his room right now if it did.
It feels like a bunch of people are seeing small groups not social distancing much on journeys or slagging off people in queues for the now open hardware stores (which lead to its own discussion about people still social distancing and they might need that stuff to keep themselves sane so at least it wasn't toothless) so I'm here wondering what might happen, if anything will happen or whatever.
This is going to be a long-ass two weeks before we get to Stage 2.

So my sister in law wants to do a big party for her and my wifes mom for her birthday.....problem is that is Sunday and she wants to do it at my house since we live in the biggest house in the family. That involves our family of 4, SIL and her husband....then my wifes niece that is like 30 her husband and daughter who have been having house parties and not social distancing through this whole thing...and our daughter and her boyfriend who have 2 kids under the age of 2, one is a newborn...all in close proximity together. All of this with a birthday party for a woman that is 75 years old....
This seems like a really bad idea, what should I do?

My wife doesn't really wanna do it but here is the issue.....my wifes sister is a raging asshole so that will be an issue and secondly.......my MIL just gout of the psych ward. She's basically old and alone and refusing to move to an independent living facility. She's essentially a barely functioning alcoholic because she's by herself. She has no ability to be able to be alone for some reason. So my wife even though she doesn't really want to do this, is struggling with what if this is her last birthday? She's going downhill pretty quickly to be honest in the times I've seen her.

Also, tell her that she may not have heard that the human race is currently under assault by a deadly virus, and that if she holds such a party for a 75 year old, there's a good chance she may never make it to 76.

The problem we have is so many people are dumb and think everything is fine now. Even if 100% of people became robots that listened to every rule 100% we’d still get an uptick in cases and a second wave. That’s just what happens as things start to get going again. The curve flattening was solely about making sure the hospitals don’t get overrun which thankfully didn’t happen. Doctors have been saying a second wave is inevitable since March. Now it’s something the media is pushing as only happening because of “those people”. People need to hear another wave is coming because, sadly, a lot of people would hear "we've flattened the curve" and think "the pandemic is over", which would undo a lot of the positives accomplished earlier on. That said, it's going to be many orders of magnitude worse than a normal second wave because of "those people" and the utter lack of centralized leadership, plus criminally negligent leadership in many states. That warrants reporting, especially given that outside of the New York-Tristate area the vast majority of the country hasn't hit its peak of new infections yet.

The idea behind a warning about a second wave is to make sure it's manageable. What a lot of people, including some state governments, are doing is putting their fingers in their ears and pretending the virus no longer exists and we can go back to normal. That's exactly what happened with the 1918 flu pandemic and the second wave was devastating, killing millions.

He also said the WWE continuing live shows is the right thing to do so I’m gonna question his judgement. 😬 Someone should ask him how a libertarian society would handle a pandemic.
You ever play Bioshock? It'd probably be something like how Rapture ended up.

I think what’s more important is trying to find some type of new normalcy while simultaneously preparing for a 2nd wave. There will be no way to avoid new infections whenever that wave hits, and at the same time we can’t stay at home waiting for a vaccine that may never come. There has to be a balance somewhere, it’s about finding it while mitigating as much damage as possible during the 2nd wave.
Also, while I agree there are a lot of idiots out there, NJ is opening up beaches, golf courses, and parks around Memorial Day. Maybe I’m missing something but how does that make any sense? Isn’t that encouraging reckless behavior? It’s not just the people that are messing up here.

Absolutely no way he's taking it. He's using this for financial gain.

Absolutely no way he's taking it. He's using this for financial gain. Exactly. Unless he's using some quack doctor, nobody would allow a 74 year old overweight man to take a pill that could kill him for no reason.

Absolutely no way he's taking it. He's using this for financial gain. While I would not be entirely shocked if that were the case, I believe it is also possible that he is for a number of reasons. First, there were several people that he was exposed to that tested positive, so I would be shocked if he didn't freak out about the possibilities that he could get sick, for a number of reasons. Second, he did not simply say he was taking hydroxychloroquine. He also said he was taking zinc and Z-packs. It sounds as though he is throwing everything against the wall in the hopes that it all works out for him. I am surprised that he did not also say he was taking Vitamin D, as the study that got him so excited about the drug in the first place also involved VD treatment, which probably should have been the more promising treatment from the word go.

Regarding a second wave: The hope, according to Scott Gottlieb, former FDA director and current advisor to multiple governors on the pandemic is that there will be enough treatments and resources available to counter it.
I'm cautiously optimistic that could be the case but, that will require everyone realizing that a second wave is possible.

In a few weeks he's going to claim that it didn't kill him so clearly those people who drank pool cleaner because of him and died were fake news.

Yeah, this is one of those cases where I wouldn't be shocked if he actually is taking the stuff and isn't just completely lying. He's scared shitless right now; there's the bad polls and the bad optics, yes, but as you guys said he's an old man with a heart condition who doesn't exercise and eats like garbage, and he's quite likely surrounded by people who've been exposed to the virus. I really wouldn't be shocked if he went through the doctors that gave him clean bills of health the past few years, lied to say he wasn't obese, lied to say he was "the healthiest president ever", etc. We're so deep into uncharted waters like this, and I don't think we as a political culture or news media are equipped to address all this; at this stage, there have to be questions about invoking the 25th amendment, but I don't think people have it in them to seriously bring it up. Dude's talking about taking medication that could outright kill him or, at least, cause big hallucinations.
