Hogan would job when Vince told him. Pretty much everybody, except Mil Mascaras who would not only refuse to lose but he also refuse to sell moves. JBL called him a selfish bastard on commentary and Jericho said in a promo to Alberto he hated him.

He tells them that nobody cares about them or their moves so they shouldn’t give Mascaras any move at all. Mil tried that shit with Bruiser Brody so Brody just beat the f*** out of him for real, Mil ran away and tagged out.

Yes while doing interviews he speaks and has the same mannerism that heel ADR does. There’s one interview where Mil is asked if he regrets not having a heir like his brother Dos Caras has in Alberto, Mil just starts laughing and says that nobody is on his level.

The Sheik was unusual in that he was a heel who would very long periods of time without jobbing.

Sure you can find some exceptions for pretty much anybody, but Piper for the most part would not job. He explained that he didn’t jobbed because back then you worked without a contract and Piper believed that Vince could get rid of him anytime after losing. Hell Vince let him get away with it. It did end up paying off for him with the WCW gig, where the whole draw of it was "Hogan never could get one over on Piper, can he now?" I wonder if the Warrior feud, as bad as it was anyway, also was hurt by being basically a redo of that.

It's a good hook but it is basically at the end of the day Hogan getting his W's back from opponents of his past. If he could have dragged Yokozuna out there and think it would draw money he would have Him and Roddy ended up doing well initially but those BS finishes hurt that and then the matches became bad. Warrior/Hogan in WCW was just bad

Speaking of Brody, after All Japan became so important to his career, he generally would not agree to lose in any real way outside of Japan since it would be covered in the Japanese magazines, etc. I'm not sure if this was a specific directive or suggestion from Baba, or if Brody just knew the score.

Hacksaw Jim Duggan - Brawl to the back Duggan jobbed a lot more often than history remembers. He had a few high profile moments of pulling that, but Jim knew when to lay down, for the most part.

Why would you have your babyface champion do clean jobs? Austin didn't do clean jobs, Rock didn't do many either. That's not the way WWE booked. To put someone over. To make the next guy. To give someone your rub. To make money with a new guy. To make a heel look invincible for a payoff down the line. There a ton of good reasons for a babyface champion to job clean. It's not a bad thing to protect a babyface champion, and my original question wasn't about babyface champions, or WWF booking. Im asking when did the idea that a wrestler can not job for any reason first become a thing.

In fairness, stuff like feuds with Bad News Brown, King Haku in which he didn't lay down, can't really blame him since they weren't really rising up and end of day it kept him over

Roddy Piper rarely jobbed. That's why it was such a big deal when Bret beat him. I was at that Mania. It was such a great match. Didn’t dawn on me that piper had never been pinned cause I was so young at that Mania 8.

that doesn't work for me brother Hogan knew when to play ball but just not when he should (See, Sting Starrcade) Taking that L to Lex (which you can argue hurt Sting a bit), losing to Piper. He knew when to play the game to keep himself head just enough
