So, this came about watching Scooby Doo and finding this incredibly catchy ska song as performed by Dave Wakefield:
Got me wondering, what songs are there that have been written for certain media? Stuff that doesn't have a commercial release (Or, didn't originally), but could easily work as a song in its own right away from the media itself. Can see other examples from Scooby Doo with the Hex Girls as well, come to think of it, and not just in the clip up above.
Anyone have any favourites along these lines?

Limozeen (from Homestar Runner) could have been the original Steel Panther:

Was thinking more songs that are only sung in universe as sort of pop songs and the like rather than musicals or backing soundtracks.

As much as Rockstar have been annoying with their obsession with GTA 5 and online, RDR 2 was still a masterpiece.

Originally the theme song of a TV sitcom, released as a dance single after the series was cancelled.

This reminds me of an interesting story. The Kinks had been commissioned to write and perform the soundtrack for Percy, an early seventies British sex comedy about a man who has a penis transplant. Ray Davies doubted that the producers had ever heard anything they had done and had picked them out at random. From what I understand, when he found out what the film was about he hated it, and wrote "God's Children" for it in protest. Most of the soundtrack album is pretty dismal (and I say that as someone who loves early seventies Kinks) but this was a real highlight.

Pretty much every karaoke song in the Yakuza series could stand on its own outside the games. It doesn't hurt that Takaya Kuroda (voice actor for Kiryu) is actually the lead singer in a band.
I wonder if he ever gets requests to perform Yakuza songs live?

“Follow Me” for King of Fighters 14 blows away most of what’s on modern rock radio:

Alice Cooper wrote The Man With The Golden Gun for the film but the studio chose Lulu instead

Was "Late Goodbye" written exclusively for Max Payne 2:The Fall of Max Payne, or was it already written and Sam Lake just integrated it into the game because he's a big fan of the band that wrote it?
It appears on Poets of the Fall's album Signs of Life. But that was two years later.

Alice Cooper wrote The Man With The Golden Gun for the film but the studio chose Lulu instead But years later Alice wrote He's Back (The Man Behind the Mask) for Friday the 13th Part VI.

Final Fantasy XIV has a f***ing amazing soundtrack btw.
And as much distaste as I got for Game of Thrones by the end of its run, The National's version of The Rains of Castamere was fantastic.

The first that came to mind was Gears of War by Megadeth. Unfortunately that also led me to remembering their godawful Crush Em for Universal Soldier The Return (or was that more for WCW?).
Pink Floyd and Explosions In The Sky have both done whole soundtracks for movies.
Plenty of bands and musicians have had their music featured in movies and games and shows, but it's more difficult to think of music created specifically for those movies, games, or shows.
