twitter.com/StephanieHypes/status/1274994348539535360The context, best as I can understand it, is that he was 22 here, so a few years ago. Still WAY too old, as if there's any good age, to be joking about something like this. The complete and other lack of reaction from the interviewer is also chilling, like, Sammy may as well said, "I bought some groceries" for all the mind he paid it. In any case, it's on trending. I am absolutely stunned, to say the least. I *presume* this was some kind of joke or extremely gross way of calling her attractive, rather than some statement of fact, but there is no justifying this. What the f***, Sammy?

I was actually just in the middle of posting that myself when I decided to double check before hitting submit.
And... Yeah, what the f***? Even if it is a joke, how is, "I wanted to rape this woman," supposed to be funny?

I'm sure this was just a 'joke' and that Sammy had no actual intention of making it happen (at least I hope so) but it's still an awful comment to make.
It's comments like this (and the non-reaction to it) that breed an atmosphere where abuse happens. It helps to normalize it, make women feel uncomfortable, and men empowered to treat them like lesser beings. I've gone off a tangent here a little, but there's no place for comments like that.

This is coming out in the midst of Sasha/Bayley and Jericho/Sammy having what appears to be a friendly back and forth over Twitter. Some took issue there with Sammy comparing Sasha with young, long-hair Ricochet, but that's apparently an in-joke for many of the people involved (I don't know that 100%, just based off what I've read elsewhere).
But yeah, Sammy, that ain't it, chief. If Sasha already knows about it and they're on good terms now then that's their business, it would make me presume it's been handled on that level, but the guy needs to be aware even on the Ricochet joke that he's much more of a public figure now and that if a celebrity is going to joke publicly, even with their friends, everybody can see it and might assume the worst since few of us would have the full context behind it. If Sasha's unaware of this interview, though, then Sammy should reach out, apologize, and just own up to being stupid here.

This would honestly be a good time for AEW to implement some kind of social media policy. Not even just to retroactively punish for this sort of stuff but to just put an approach out for stuff like this if it’s found out.
Because it’s not fair to punish people for their past comments but you also need to show people in the best way that the person isn’t the same as they were back then.

They should, but even their higher ups (see Tony, Cody and Brandi) are really bad at it on a good day. On a bad day, Tony goes full dork, Cody uses his wife as a shield, and Brandi gets super incompetent. They need to hire more professionals behind the camera. There's also the recurring theme that this is now 3 Inner Circle Members who have said dumb stuff in the media/social media (Jericho, Hager, Sammy), and two who have done potentially fire-able infractions (Sammy, Hager). Which makes me think Jericho shouldn't be giving hiring advice. If Luther hadn't proven that.

"I'd love to f*** rape her" is not. It's disgusting at best.

I'm just going to straight up admit I was still making rape jokes at the age Sammy is now, never mind 22. There are comedians still doing it now.
It's a piece of shit thing to do, and everybody needs to stop doing it.
This isn't the same level of scorched earth as the abuse accusations are, there is a world of difference, but something definitely needs done about it. The social media policy point is one ejm has been raising for months or more now and he is dead right.

Sweet Jesus, that's an absolutely putrid thing to say, even if it *was* some lame attempt at a "joke"

And I’ll keep saying it because, again, I worked as a hot dog vendor on a zero hour contract at Thorpe Park where I could be told to go home as soon as I came in and THEY had a social media policy. There isn’t an excuse for multi million/billion dollar companies not to have anything in place.

Love ya Sammy, but yeah that's not good. Why would one even make that kind of "joke" anyway?

But the thing here is that he can atone; maybe he already has with Sasha, maybe he hasn't, but I hope he has/will, and remember that being in the public eye means that "it's just a joke" doesn't really work the way it would with your buddies.

I don't think he should be fired for it, but he needs to make an apology ASAP.
And if I'm Tony Khan, I give him a big warning that any comments like this in the future will see him sent packing.
He was 22 when he said it, and while it's still unacceptable behavior, I don't think it's entirely fair to can him over something like this on the first offense. We all said dumb shit when we were younger (nothing this bad presumably) and I don't think it should be forgotten but I'd hate to see a promising career die over one stupid comment.
