Disco Inferno as Honky Tonk Man's protege.
Papa Shango returning during the Attitude Era.
EDIT: Also Papa Shango being the reason for Backlund snapping and acting like a loon.

To be far, that wasn't really a fake rumor. That was going to happen but got scrapped. Charles Wright has said it in several interviews it was going to happen, but ended up as Kama Mustafa in the Nation, there was even recently unreleased pictures of the new look. I remember another one from 99 that Viscera had died after choking to death.

This is absolutely wonderful. And on a related note. it felt like every black wrestler in the industry with a recognizable name was rumored to be joining the Nation at some point.

Damn. Imagine if he'd joined the Nation as Papa Shango. That would have been some voodoo.

CM Punk debuting as either a 50s greaser, a deaf wrestler or an evil balloon salesman.
Also Punk getting the nuclear heatz for wearing a fur coat and chains and for being ok about losing the ECW Championship.

The Raw where Kama Mustafa debuts as Faarooq's mystery partner, the announcers spend a healthy chunk of time doing this very thing. JR brings up Butch Reed and I think acknowledges that he was Faarooq's former partner, and I'm 99% sure that Vince of all people wonders if it's Abdullah the Butcher. Junkyard Dog I think was also brought up. Also: Ted Turner showing up on Nitro to fire Bischoff. This was HOT for several weeks if not months. I think this one had real legs, but I forget why Turner fell through and they went with Harvey Schiller doing it instead.

Bossman was going to take on Nailz in a second Jailhouse match (loser goes to jail for the night).

If you do a chokeslam 3 times in the same spot in Smackdown vs. Raw (04), you unlock Brock Lesnar. I initially managed to misread this so badly, I thought it was saying that if you did three chokeslams IN REAL LIFE, you'd somehow summon Brock. I had a lot of fun with that mental image.

When I was 10 years old in late 98, I somehow got myself hired to do a weekly column on one of the many NEWZ sites that existed back then. I managed to start a rumor that Cactus Jack was returning at the 1999 Royal Rumble. Funny enough, it actually did happen a year later at the 2000 Rumble, so prepubescent me wasn't that far off.

Bob Holly was going to be repackaged as an Astronaut and he was going to come down to the ring with a real life chimpanzee in an astronaut costume.
I still laugh when I think about this.

Not a real rumor per se, but I always would laugh at Scheme Gene giving his hotline updates about “you won’t believe the huge free agent that will be debuting in WCW soon!!!” and it would be someone like Mikey Whipwreck

According to Wright on the "Table for 3" episode where that picture was shown, he showed up for Raw and was summoned by Vince, who then informed him of the changes. - The Papa Shango idea was not happening because of Kane's upcoming debut. - He would instead be joining the Nation. - He would be pinning The Undertaker, the WWE Champion at the time, clean in a tag match.
