Anybody remember that Chris Jericho’s WWE name was going to be “Xcalibur” and the rumour was based on a supposed leaked roster for WWF WrestleMania 2000?

from about 1998 onwards seemed like it was weekly I would heard Tatanka was returning and guessing it did technically come true in the end
One rumour I heard that sticks out was that Shawn Michaels was dating Nicole Bass. The rumour was he found her backstage crying after he had insulted her in a promo and he felt bad and there budding romance blossomed from there

Lex Luger coming to TNA Green DX Kane Funnily enough Impact just put out a video showcasing some guys that only had a handful of matches in TNA. Sure enough Luger teamed with Jarrett to take on Styles and Sting.

I also remember the one that said that WCW copyrighted the named "Chris Jericho", so when he comes to the WWF he would be called "Chris Gericho". And also that he would be the new leader of DX.

Bret Hart turning up at Wrestlemania XX This one has some truth behind it. He confirmed WWE contacted him on his Calgary Sun column. Of course he declined.

The weekend before his debut, I read Le Champion was set to be introduced as Dr. Harvey Whippelman's son, "Chris [still working on last name]". (May or may not have been from Rajah.)

Right before the 2002 Mania at Skydome, Vince was on "Byte This" and said Bret had been invited to that event, too. Supposedly, he would have been a guest referee, likely for HHH/Jericho.

Until 2010, he definitely did. Even in the Hall of Fame class, he had no desire to show up to Wrestlemania the next day, so didn't.

Yeah, despite him wrestling there a handful of times, it seems like he was "coming in" at every TV taping.

From WCW's fall in 2001 to his actual debut in 2014, "Sting to the WWE" rumors were so regular in the weeks leading up to every WrestleMania that you probably could've developed a fairly accurate farming calendar based on them alone.

Scott Hall and Kevin Nash were returning to the WWF every week until WCW closed if you read the news sites circa 1998. So were Demolition. WWF magazine had a 1996 issue with a one page write up on Demolition so that may have fueled the rumor. I don't recall many retrospectives on legends around that time so it was a little odd. But I think the relationship between WWF and Ax was surely still greatly strained. But even if they had come back Ax would have been close to 50 so not sure how well it would have gone over. WWF also wasn't in the legend business much at the time unless they had a "legend in the audience" shot so to fans Demolition may still have been the guys who lost to two random guys at WrestleMania 7.

Most of the rumors about Demolition I remember from late 96/early 97 were less about reuniting Ax and Smash and more about reuniting Smash and Crush. It did make sense. The WWF had Crush under contract and he wasn't doing anything all that interesting as an adjunct member of the Nation of Domination, and Barry Darsow's most recent gig was in the AWF which had just gone under. There was a window of opportunity if they wanted it to happen.
