While I kind of agree with you, what about Deadpool? Deadpool was never a kids character. From his inception, he was always too gruesome for kids. It's why he never appeared in any X-Men cartoons. Characters like Batman, Superman, Spider-Man, they've always been kids characters who also happen to appeal to adults. Like I said, I'm not uptight, I just think that a big summer movie with a kids character shouldn't be sexual, depressive, or gory. Deadpool? Go nuts. But don't sell him to kids. I agree with the part about Batman Returns, but regarding Deadpool, that was entirely on the ignorance of parents taking children to see a movie that wasn't geared for them to begin with. I remember there was a controversy surrounding Watchmen back in 2009 with parents taking small children to see it. They were clearly shocked at not just Dr. Manhattan's manhood, but also the graphic violence and sexual content. But there was a counterargument to this. There was some marketing for it during that time. Hell, I remember going into Borders and seeing a section full of Watchmen merchandise. I remember questioning it at the time because I remember many years prior when I was in high school talking with how there is usually marketing towards PG and PG-13 movies. Though there were exceptions when it came to R-rated movies, like Terminator and Robocop having toy-lines and such. Also, check out this link right here.

I thought this would be about whiney ass cancel culture finding something in this movie that wasn't the least bit offensive at all but super duper offensive to them. Phew! Anyways, I saw this in the theater at 8 years old with my mom and we both loved it.

That hasn’t stopped Deadpool from being marketed to kids, usually by doing away the violence and just emphasizing his whole wacky fourth wall-breaking antics.

I've never got why so many parents are so obsessed with what other kids watch? A few million or so kids in the US don't have access to proper nutrition. Focus on that if you really care about their wellbeing. Yeesh

I have a Deadpool action figure sitting on my closet right now, that I got at Toys 'R Us when I was probably ten or so. The year on the figure says 1992. So...he was there. 😕

My parents didn’t allow me to watch Horror movies as a kid so I didn’t really get into them until I was a teenager so the opening Scene of Batman Returns freaked me out a bit when I was 8/9 whatever. The music and the atmosphere of that opening scene did intrigue me though.
This is also the same child that was scared of seeing Terminator & Terminator 2 and thought they were scary movies so I was a stupid child admittedly.

It really does just meander unhurriedly along to the overall goal of putting Batman, Catwoman, Penguin, and Schreck in the same room, with no real care given to the how, when, or why. It's the most Tim Burton of Tim Burton movies. and Batman is pretty absent for big chunks of the Batman movie Also while I do agree the parents need to take responsibility for what their children consume... Batman Returns WAS at least partially marketed towards children. Again it had Happy Meal toys... most kids I see eating happy meals are well below 13. We at least got more of the Batsuit in 89 than we did Dark Knight Rises, which was a Bruce movie foremost.

Pfeh. The bigger controversy is that 30+ years later WB went back and redid the gun sound fx for the 4k restoration of BATMAN '89, ruining the entire movie in my humble opinion....
MY EARS STILL BLEED AND SOMEONE MUST PAY FOR THIS.

You know the game that has animatronics possessed and are trying to kill you, someone got the idea to make toys of them and market them to kids. I've caught my 7 year old nephew watching videos of it and quickly turned it off and told him to never watch those again.

Yeah, if we're being honest, to fix the issue around Batman Returns and parental responsibility there's a whole lot of other things that need to definitely change that just won't.

After the deaths in Transformers the Movie and Duke taking a snake in the heart, Batman and Batman Returns were cakewalk in terms of content.
And the irony of the Batman being marketed to kids through the paragon of health which was McDonalds' food. Lol
