twitter.com/TheBrandiRhodes/status/1285740962153664514Brandi seems to be calling for a women's tag division. It's not shocking, considering Khan I think mentioned wanting a women's tag division early on, and Omega has very much wanted it. Beyond that, they've got more women over time, and this helps them get some more in the mix. It'll be interesting to see what teams would form.

Bit jumping the gun on it as the only other women's team AEW had was Kris and Shida and it'll be November until Kris comes back from her tear.
The roster is still spread out thin at the moment for Women's Tag although its better than it was 3 months ago. Maybe Ivelisse and Diamante are both being signed.

AEW certainly should have a women's tag division but they should probably wait until they have enough established women for a functional singles division first.
Though I still have more faith in the idea than I do the weird shambling, "A maximum of three teams exists as a time," approach WWE's been doing.

I said at the tail end of Dark, this is probably a better place to put the thought: a tag title tournament would be by far the most efficient way to introduce a dozen new wrestlers to the roster.
So, let's assume a more-or-less best case scenario: Papa Khan's loosened the purse strings enough that they are going to be able to fill out such a division properly, and a lot of people are just kind of available now due to either contracts running out or the pandemic shifting the status quo enough that deals aren't what they were. The number of wrestlers showing interest in this on Twitter are, on some level, actually willing and able to take the deals.
If all of that aligns, we would probably get something along the lines of:
* Diamante & Ivelisse * Brandi & Allie * Big Swole & Nicole Savoy * Abadon & Heidi Howitzer * Hyan & Rok-C * Thunder Rosa & Holidead
Working with current roster members and trainees who are not already part of teams: Britt Baker would fit well with a hired gun, I'm going to say Davienne. Penelope Ford could pick up a temporary partner whom she could stick with if the team gels well, I'm going to say Faye Jackson out of the wrestlers we've seen at ringside. KiLynn King is very impressive but has no gimmick - throw her with Anna Jay in the Dark Order. Shida could do the puro trope of having a protege tag partner, let's say Bentley Powell, who specializes in getting her ass kicked before hitting explosive comebacks.
Other teams that would be great, but don't seem to be broadcasting the same signals of being within reach:
* The Bird and the Bee * The Sea Stars
Bird and the Bee are just a great package: Solo Darling is the exact kind of wrestler that would get a great debut out of a Shida match, and she and Willow work very well together. (Willow is no slouch and would be a fantastic pickup, as well.) The Sea Stars are a bit bland in their presentation (Ashley Vox stands out more on her own - it's like she sheds parts of her gimmick in order to blend with her sister), but their TikTok stuff with Leyla Hirsch and Davienne gives me the thought that they could be a big part of BTE or BTE-style content for the women.
So, I'm thinking: hire a bunch of these workers, have a vignette for one team and a squash for another for a few weeks, put together an eight-team tournament.
It would be far more ambitious than AEW has been with their women so far, but even if they just throw together some teams out of the tiny roster (a task so ludicrous that I actually find the ambitious scenario likely), it's something for them to do and opens the door for any of the above teams to eventually show up.
So yeah, there's my possibly irrationally optimistic best case scenario.
EDIT: Also a thing - the aforementioned Thunder Rosa, Nicole Savoy, and Hyan all hold major singles gold that they aren't really in a position to lose any time soon. Hiring all three but putting them in tag teams would be a great way for them to get going on Dynamite without having to worry about jobbing out the Shimmer champion or the NWA Women's champion one-on-one, which could be what clinches their availability.

It makes sense to use some time to build a tag division, could give the women's division more matches on Dynamite and add some importance to DARK. Dasha asked her a good question in that interview. You're winning matches as a team, what's your plan? It doesn't make sense to just win matches in a division that doesn't exist. Hopefully they expand on it and use it as a way to launch some new characters.

It's a good idea, especially given AEW's strength at booking tag-teams on the men's side. I think right now more an issue of quantity. If you want a tag-team division, you need more women on the roster to form the tag-teams. Then again, I don't really watch Dark so maybe there are hints of a number of teams forming there as opposed to singles wrestlers thrown together because reasons.

If they do a Tourney with this, this is a great way to get a ton of girls exposure, tryouts, even signings and roster spots
I would be very down for a women's tag division if they could sustain it, which is every f***ing companies downfall that has tried it is maintaining it. But get enough teams and talent, get the international talent back... they very easily could do it

I'd keep Abadon a lone wolf but Heidi could absolutely be teamed with someone. Imagine her and Alpha Female holy hell... Also just realized they could have an under the radar signing of Taynara Conti and team her with Christi Jaynes to be a Brazilian Kickass Duo.

Tomorrow’s Dynamite could be an all-time great if these surprises (Brandi’s surprise and Cody’s opponent) are good.

See, I'd agree on Abadon, but the image of a big ditzy 80's hoss playing Ricky Morton to her tiny demonic monster best friend is hilarious and I would pay to see it. Also gives Abadon someone to talk for her, which could help her mystique. Heidi also teams with Bentley Powell, whom I also see potential in. Taynara Conti and Christi Jaynes would in fact be pretty cool. Discussions about Conti have noted that there's a paucity of Brazilian wrestlers, so the pairing would be a little less "because nationality" than it would be otherwise.

Hey if a Women's Tag tourny is the surprise why not? Give more ladies a chance to shine and bring in some girls for an extended look. And ya still have to start prepping for that 2nd show sooner than later

It'd be a great way to get more girls on the show at least. Pretty much. It kills many birds with one stone: efficiently bolster the division's numbers (thus yanking them out of the current booking hole of spent match-ups); give the women something distinctive and new (and which, crucially, NXT does not truly have); and play more to AEW's booking strengths, which are hugely dependent on tag wrestling and complex relationships and alliances among the wrestlers.

I hope the announcement isn't underwhelming like the FTW Championship introduction was.
