Man, I had the Tick vs season 2 on dvd in my shopping cart for months for like $13. But I never got around to buying it for some reason. It sold out a couple days ago and I can’t find another copy on amazon. My only option is eBay where it’s either $60 or I have to buy a combo pack with season 1 which I already own.
Also, I was looking for Rurouni Kenshin Kyoto OvA but that’s surprisingly hard to find as well.
It’s weird because the Tick season 1 and the original Kenshin tv show and OVAs are still relatively easy to find. Were these later dvds just not popular on their initial run?

Well, DVDs as a whole are getting tougher to find.
Either the stores that always carried them are very noticeably scaling down what they carry (hi Target, what's up Walmart) or the store chains themselves are becoming much more scarce (there might be 2 FYE's in an acceptably driveable distance from me here in MA; thankfully I work very close to 1.)

Last summer I held off on buying Nightmare on Elm Street Laserdiscs or hard to find tapes. Now this year there's pretty much nothing out there and the only place to find them is private sellers.
Most DVDs I can find at the local FYE at least.

It’s surprising too because supposedly DVD is still the highest selling video format.

My advice: buy the set with both seasons, and then sell your other copy of season 1.

I thought I'd get in one of these situations when I went out to look for the Superfriends '78 episodes (not Challenge, the core team episodes that went with them), because they for some reason are not streaming. At all. But it was easy...still on Amazon, $9.99 at that.

Two things: 1. I'm in MA too! I'm in Weymouth. Where are you? 2. There are still FYEs?

Quite annoyingly, I noticed that Newbury Comics that moved into malls replaced their FYE's (Braintree years ago, way up in Salem NH, and over in Dartmouth).

There’s basically no brick and mortar options for older physical media in my area, couple pawn shops with limited selection but other then that we only have Best Buy and Walmart for new releases. It’s a shame too, my movie buying has slowed down to nothing now. I think I buy less then 10 a year now, compared to a 100+ a year at my peak

Shit, I was thinking of California Dreams the other day, and I just remembered that one disc is cracked. I emailed Shout factory years ago and they couldn't sell a replacement disc, and now I don't think they sell it anymore (you'd think they'd put it on their streaming channel) and I can't find anywhere online that would sell just one specific disc from a set.
Now, it seems the dvd itself is out of print and is wildy expensive, or from some shady second website which i suspect is a bunch of bootlegs. I know i can find it on youtube, but the collector in me is quite annoyed by this. Plus the special feature and extras. Not to mention when YOutube will pull the copyright claims.

I’m all about griping about the lack of FYE in Mass. The one I always went to in Hanover closed at the end of last year and really bummed me out.

I can't tell you how much I regret missing out on a few of the Disney Treasures DVD sets. They're quite possibly the best executed home video releases Disney has ever done, and a few of them go for several hundred dollars a set now.

Highly recommend checking your nearby used book stores. For some reason, I've found they get a strong amount of tv-on-dvd sets and - maybe they don't know what they have - but the prices are fair. Or have you tried reaching out to the shady site for just the cracked disc?

The original CD release of Now That’s What I Call Music 4. It came out in 1984 and was essentially a selection of tracks from Nows 2, 3 and 4. As it was 1984, CDs hadn’t really caught on as much as they would in the next few years, so this release is rare. They reissued Now 4 on CD last year but it was a CD version of the Vinyl/Tape version, not the rare initial CD.

A lot of later Goosebumps books, around 98-2000 in particular. Pieced together a lot of stuff, and have the original 62, but still have huge gaps in Series 2000 and Give Yourself Goosebumps.

Speaking of gamebooks/CYOA, I'm a big fan of Joe Dever's Lone Wolf books, and have recently been trying to get a complete set of the Collector's Edition that came out in 2007 and onwards. Holy fricken crap at the prices! It's not unusual to see a single book sell for $300+! The craziest example I've seen is £1000 for a single book. Insane.

There's a place here called Super Mega Replay that has tons of DVD's but they just throw them in sections by letter, making stuff very hard to look through. The only other place like that is Book Broker, and they still have table after table stacked with VHS tapes. The only other decent buy/sell media places closed awhile ago. There is a Coconuts(FYE) as well, but that place is pretty meh as well.
As sad as it seems, Ebay seems to be the best option right now, and its too bad they got rid of their half.com site.

I wanna own a legit copy of Captain Planet, but it's nearly impossible to find a R1 copy that isn't ridiculously overpriced.
on Amazon.ca, the cheapest DVD for season 1 is $176 (used)

For a long time, it was Stanley Kubrick's debut film, Fear and Desire, on Blu-ray. Specifically, the long out of print UK release from Masters of Cinema. Not only is the transfer is superior to the American release, but it also includes all 3 of his short subject films made prior to the film's release. The day I finally found a copy on eBay, this cinema nerd was pretty much doing cartwheels through his living room.
