Ah yes, especially that group of friends of mine who knew nothing about her but were rooting for her immediately after hearing her catchy as hell song and began really rooting for her after seeing her wrestle in the tournament. Or you know, all those fans who were hot for her any time she came out pre-pandemic. Again, you might not like joshi's, but it's been proven over and over again they are over with the casual fans. Shida, Emi, Yuka, and Itoh are very over with people all over.

How did Vickie no-sell? It's a submission finisher and she tapped pretty much instantly and was angry about it afterwards. It's not a knockout move where you have to be left reeling, it's a 'damn, this hurts a lot and I can't get out, I have no choice but to tap'.

I think the division has taken a step back in the last month but I'm not incredibly worried. I think what happened was a lot of things were slowed down with the shift to Fridays and that especially took a hit on the women's division since it already takes up a smaller chunk of the show. So folks like Shida and Thunder Rosa have been in a holding pattern. I also am not a big fan of this Myla/Britt feud but it will be over soon at least. I think the return to touring/an extra hour of TV will help things. When booked well, the women here can deliver the best women's matches you'll see on weekly American TV. Just need to give them that time and some more opportunities for storyline development.

cjb, your "why's everyone so pessimistic?" post was in response to chrom predicting that Yuka Sakazaki would be booked just like Ryo Mizunami was. Like, it was a prediction rooted very firmly in evidence. And you still found it snark-worthy. I disagree pretty firmly with the rest of what chrom is saying up there, but like...you were already coming at him when what he said was based entirely on what we've already seen on screen with the booking of a wrestler of similar talent and standing, so it's hard to take you seriously when you say it's just the "horrid" takes that you're so riled up about.

In another thread, you said that you don't want to be seen as the guy who always goes to bat for AEW. I'll take you at your word that you don't want that, and tell you: as far as I am concerned, you are 100% that guy, and it's because you go after opinions and comments grounded in evidence (or, worse, grounded in the clearly stated personal preferences of the poster) with the same energy that you go after ones that aren't.

My first comment about the thread being pessimistic was a tad harsh I can see that. But when I see stuff like this it certainly doesn't alleviate the point of it. Saying Yuka may only be on the Youtube Shows vs... that... is a pretty horrifying leap of hot take.

I can say my initial reply was an overstep... though now seeing takes like this makes it oddly fit just due to the ridiculousness of the reach. 

You are right in that sentiment that I really don't want to be that guy. And I've even said I agree the division needs to have more focus and I want it to happen. I just don't want to come down hard on them. Not yet... but I can understand patience has run thin for some. But posts like the above? We could do without those tinfoil hat takes...

There have been a lot of people asking about an update on Melanie Cruise after it was revealed that Awesome Kong and Shanna weren't renewed. Melanie hasn't been used, isn't factored into imminent creative plans, and has not been around backstage of late. We've reached out to AEW officials, who do not usually return inquiries about contract status. We've been told that Melanie has been successful in her day job and is doing well outside of wrestling

Good to know Mel isnt struggling financially outside of wrestling, even though AEW should not have given her a 2 year deal, she was by far the worst signing AEW had.

I feel like there is no basis in truth in that last statement you made. I agree the division hasn’t been booked the best. But that last part makes no sense to me at all.

yeah it was going to be rebel until she got injured during the match so britt took the hit.

but now they can spin this as taking britt off tv for a few weeks while nyla destroys jobbers claiming she should just be handed the title now/britt is ducking her or something to that effect and let some other women get some match time in before britt gets the face reaction for her return. i think they're going to make britt a tweener just because she rubs everyone else in the locker room the wrong way so even the heels don;t like her and want the belt off her. plus britt's getting semi-face reactions already so i think we'll get the dueling chants routine if she faces another face. plus the expected hero's welcome when they do the shows in brittsburgh. i don;t think she'll be heel anymore by then.
